Participant…and now it’s going to start getting ugly…
http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9223347/Kodak_sues_HTC_Apple_over_patent_infringementI was listening to the radio a week ago, and they suggested Kodak could come to doing this sort of thing. It’s on the ropes and looking for cash anywhere they can – they have a lot of patents, so it’s a logical step for them. It’s sort of sad to watch, though.

ParticipantEh…I treat the “best” button like the old “vote” button and don’t really differentiate between the two.

ParticipantMakes me want to hold onto my Portra rolls even longer, until I find something really worthy. That, or just buy up all the Kodak I can find and keep it in a freezer.

ParticipantWow, big boost!

ParticipantFarking bacon grease on the lens… 🙂
Finally, you can lick your lens clean without looking weird! Well, as weird at least.

ParticipantAre Fark Party pics okay?
^Like Els said. So long as the person was a stranger to you, it’s fine.

ParticipantYugo – Yeah, I just ran on flickr and grabbed the first photo I could for comparison, but it’s probably not a great one. If it was more up close, I’m sure her eyes would pop, but I just don’t know if it’d be anything like these other ones. I agree eyes aren’t always everything, but they seem to draw me in for a lot of images, so it’d just be nice to know how to get that 😉
NBD – sort of like that, but I’d go a bit less dramatic with them; I want something subtle so it looks fairly realistic.
staplermofo, ennui, Kes – there was an article a while ago about making a ring light, and I was really considering it for this; I think photoshop should be used as a last resort. If I want to focus on someone’s eyes (Olivia Wilde…wow), I’ll just have to keep in mind to get a bright light in a good position to reflect and act as a catch light (great article by the way, didn’t know it was called that), and photoshopping if I really need to.
Thanks, everyone. Loads of help here.

ParticipantThis part of the curve has an exponential build in because during their hysterical fervor it takes them a while to remember that they can only vote once.
One small correction here… You can vote as often as you like, just not for the same entry more than once. So I vote on Wed night (Pacific Time) then check in a couple more times before the voting closes on Saturday to check out new entries (and vote for them if I like them).
Similar – I’ll usually throw up my photos and not bother voting (because not a lot of shots are posted yet), even for my own. I’ll wait about 8 hours, go for a round of voting, and then check back about once a day for any new shots.

ParticipantSorry to hear all the issues. Losing a camera is definitely like losing an instrument to a musician – I agree with Rav, you definitely don’t want to let go unless you absolutely have to. I’ve heard of too many friends who had to sell their instruments/camera and regretted it years later.

ParticipantAll my best ideas come while I’m drunk. The best results are after a couple days of recovery 😉 I’ve storyboarded a couple images on napkins while drunk in a pub before.

ParticipantI am currently making a whole package of bacon. Large quantities of alcohol have been imbibed. I hope the photos come out well…
That’s how you start the weekend off right.

ParticipantMy alma mater doesn’t have a football team. Well, they did for one season in 1968, but after a winless season people lost interest and it folded. Sad times being a UCSD student when Berkeley and LA students got to show off their team support.

ParticipantThis just makes me even more sad that I can’t find bacon in the UK so easily. Gone are the days of walking down the supermarket aisle and seeing 10 varieties of delicious, delicious bacon. Now the supermarket might have one “bacon” but it’s actually just ham. There’s a specialty store not too far from me that sells authentic ‘merican-style bacon, so I’ll be heading there to get some grub soon for this theme.

ParticipantI have two others if anyone’s interested.
I’m always interested, but being on the east coast it’s not too much of an issue (usually) to stay up ’til midnight to post.
Until I start doing PSes again I won’t be paying for a sponsorship, so you probably won’t get the gift back.
Just thought I’d lay it all out there. If others are more worthy (other Europeans like Farktographer for instance) I won’t be too upset to be passed over. Being able to go to bed before midnight by choice is nice, however.
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey now. I’m not a European. I’m just temporarily located in the UK 😛

Participantiwanttoeatyourchildren‘s soft focus – has anyone ever tried that effect with simple nylon? I’ve been tempted, but worry about the weird looks I might get raiding a pantyhose section of the local ladies’ store by myself 😉
