ParticipantYugo – No idea what I’d charge, but if you’re printing large versions for him, I’m guessing you could get $50 at least. Don’t know if that’s lowballing or anything though.
Rav – that first photo is amazing!
Chupa – ISO is at 1600…I was playing with my f/1.4 lens, but it’s fixed at 50mm so I couldn’t go for longer exposures than about 10 seconds without getting noticeable trailing. The noise looks worse because I had to boost brightness and exposure in post-processing to get the stars to actually shine through. But yeah, the stars out there were phenomenal – we were laying in our bags and trying to find the north star, but it was an issue to even find the big dipper hiding in the middle of all those millions of other stars. Saw some satellites out there, too.

ParticipantI believe that was disabled a long time ago, because there were issues regarding the ability to moderate all the avatars for content….

ParticipantThanks for the optimism boost, CISS

ParticipantDitto what Kes said – if you’re shooting stars, or something fairly far, it’s easy to just set to infinity. When you’ve got something closer, it’s harder to focus in the dark – you just need to let your eyes adjust.
/Edit to say: I’ve taken to carrying around a laser pointer with me if I’m shooting in low-light so I have something to focus on before I click the shutter. I guess the same could be said with a flashlight – you can shine, focus, turn off the light, then take your image.

ParticipantI showed my boss this. Now he wants one. He didn’t think it was funny when I started making fun of him.

ParticipantWow. You live in a stunning area. Love the shots.

ParticipantUgh. Why does it only rain at night in San Diego? Stupid clouds, that doesn’t make for pretty photographs! Also haven’t seen lightening in about 3 years -_-

ParticipantWell your first problem is the fact that you have so many Canons. Go ahead and drop those in the trash and buy yourself a nice Nikon D7000.

I’m feeling so inadequate – I have the D7000, an old P&S Powershot, and a new Holga 120N on the way from an ebay purchase. Jealous of your 15 cameras.

ParticipantThanks for the tips, Kes. If I get my grubby hands on the Farkolga, I’ll give it a try 🙂

ParticipantI’ve narrowed it down to University of Manchester and University of York; York is the better school, and they’re offering me money, but I like the research with the prof. at Manchester a lot more and it’s an easier work schedule, so it’s a bit of a dilemma. Imperial College has me waitlisted, but if I got in there, I’m pretty sure I’d drop everything else and take that one.
