ParticipantPlama: Yep, off to grad. school. When do you start? I have to pick a school still, and the programs start early September 😳
Sleeping: Just checked – 100-240, so looks like I’m good to go! Thanks for that tip.
/Oops, meant to post this in the farktography bar and grill, not articles.

ParticipantI actually ruffled a feather ranting about this in the PSAEF, but here I think I should be OK.
Frankly, this camera makes me ill. It takes all the art out of photography. Digital media is a double edged sword, I absolutely would not be doing any photography if it did not exist. Still, at least I make an effort to try to actually work with the equipment. When you take the photographer out of the equation all you have is ambulatory surveillance camera. There is not thought, no emotion, no love in using a camera like this. Hell, even I am guilty of taking a shot without taking the time to make sure I had the exposure right because, hey, I can fix it in Lightroom! Removing the focus, the composition coupled with what we already have of removing exposure and you don’t have photography! What you have is a CCD with legs.
I regret all those years I wasted not pursuing something I am passionate about. I love how digital gave me back a window the world. Still, I can’t help but believe that photography as an “Art” would be better without it.
Or, I should tie an onion on my belt and start shouting at clouds.
I’m strongly on your side with this. If I take a photo and it’s out of focus, I learn from it. If something like this becomes standard, someone can take a random photo, not caring about exposure, focus, anything, and make it a pretty damn good image with photoshop/lightroom/this software. Photography will become how well you know your software, not how well you know your camera.

ParticipantBlargh. I was hoping to force some 35mm film into the holga and get those nice developed edges like in orionid’s examples, but I also hear if you take them to get developed that way it can get pretty pricey. I guess I’ll just have to shop around.

ParticipantI was talking more of, say, an office scanner/printer… Teh fundz don’t allow for a new scanner/camera/film spree

ParticipantMake sure the selector window on the back matches the frame inside. The smaller frame is 16 4×6 shots, the bigger frame is 12 6×6 shots. 400 iso works great in overcast, 200 or 100 in full light. Neither one works indoors. I threw the 800 in there for fun, it’ll probably be fine indoors during daytime.
You can also force-fit 35mm in it and take it to walgreens/cvs/rite aid etc to get developed, but you have to do a couple small (non-permanent) things first.
1) Cover the red window, unless you want half your photo to be blown out with red. Use aluminum ducting tape, gaffers tape, or some other light-tight tape. Or a piece of cardboard and duct tape.
2) Put the 35mm cartridge in the supply side, then use styrofoam peanuts to keep it snug. Tape the film leader to the take-up spool.
3) Wind it about 18 clicks per frame. I’m guessing by the spacing on my negatives, every three shots or so, you can take two clicks out of the figure.
4) Unload it only in a dark bag or closet/bathroom with the door sealed off from light leaks, and hand-roll the film back into the cartridge.
5) MOST IMPORTANT – Make sure your developer knows that the negatives are not standard size, and that you will cut and scan them yourself. Lest you wind up with some pimply-faced teenager just using the pre-marked frame for standard 35mm spacing. Here’s some of my shots with it.
Noob question – do you need a special scanner for this, or can you use any run-of-the-mill scanner if it has a high enough resolution?

ParticipantAwesome! And wow…if you don’t have an entry in right at midnight, you miss out on a huge chunk of voting.
Farktographer
ParticipantNo worries. If it’s a different frame, it’s legal.
Yeah, it still irks me to do it though 😳
Farktographer
ParticipantFor the record, one of my shots looks similar to one I’ve used before – it’s not a scarlet R though, it’s a different frame. I hate doing that, but I had nothing this week and no time to shoot -_-

ParticipantSo question about the whole steps thing, and I don’t mean to be a pain. The dam at our lake (yeah, I’ve been focused on that lately) has one of those step things for the fishies to get up and over the dam. Is that ok? Or are we talking more like actual stairs/steps that people walk on? Thanks.
I swore I wasn’t going to nitpick on this one. What about things repurposed as stairs, like the rail ties in this photo from “numbers”

Koko’s Taunt. by Orionid, on FlickrGut says yes to both.

ParticipantDoesn’t need to be the whole staircase, and as CISS pointed out, different frames of the same shot are kosher. If you took two photos using a tripod and ended up with two images that looked identical, you could use both in different contests (though personally, I don’t like doing that because it prevents me from trying new things).

ParticipantLawl. Looking at the damage, I really do wonder what she used to break the casing. Looks like she chiseled the poor thing.

ParticipantNow if it were Canon, I probably wouldn’t feel so bad… 😆
Farktographer
ParticipantWow. Just, wow. Amazing shot – very impressed here.

ParticipantAwesome, CISS! Thanks so much for putting your time and effort into this!

ParticipantI’m just starting my ‘weekend’, having picked up an OT shift last night to help refund my bank account of the fundage for the xTi I bought to replace the one that broken’d. Today or tomorrow, I WILL find that damned wallet with the casino $$ in it, or I will determine it really isn’t here; if the latter is the case, I will get drunk and depressed. 🙁
So long as you don’t convert too much camera $$ into booze $$. Really hope you find that thing.
