Participant“No spot adjustments” isn’t really in force any longer with the rules revisions from last year. You’re allowed to make spot treatments now as a general rule as long as it’s not to add/subtract major image elements. So dodging/burning, blur/sharpen, contrast, etc can be a local or global adjustment. Minor retouching (removing blemishes, fixing dead pixels, etc) is also allowed. With this contest, since we’re trying to recreate t/s miniature fakes with or without software assistance, I’d say any adjustment you make that recreates that look should be fair game.
*sigh* always the last one to learn these things. i never thought to go back and look at the rules once i read ’em. i’ve been sticking to the more strict rules as they were when i came on board. i don’t know if i’m going to change my ways now though, even if my votes suffer; i learn more about photography that way, if less about gimp/photoshop.

Participanthow shocking and terrible. my heart goes out to orionid and to pangolyn’s family. i didn’t know pangolyn, but i greatly admired and respected her photography and i will miss her. *hugs* all around and sending out thoughts of peace for those who need it.

Participanti’m very pleased that my favorite picture is doing the best this week. that so rarely happens! and it’s not only my favorite entry, it actually is among my favorite pix i’ve ever taken. *happy kat*
and i did accurately predict that the one i worked hardest on is doing the worst lol. oh well, it probably deserves it; there’s no A for Effort in this game. 😛
oh, and btw and fwiw, olavf meant that it seems like the voting is low in general, not what shows on FSM. first place has typically had 10 or even 20 or 30 more votes than it does… where are all the voters? it’s not like there weren’t a lot of entries… weird. maybe a bunch of people are really stuck on their own interpretation of the contest and aren’t voting for anything that falls outside that narrow interpretation?
oh well, i’m reasonably satisfied with my results so far. =)

Participantlol I liked that, jpatten. Reminded me of college days and..er…coordinating things with roommates…
yeah, that made me giggle

Participantthe picture that i suspect will do the worst is the picture i must have spent about 45 minutes trying to take and was sore for a couple of days from wrenching my body into the necessary contortions to get the shot… oh well, it was a learning experience. 😉
/partly learning that a gorrillapod might be a good investment lol

ParticipantMaybe I should have gone with this one instead
second guessing is so hard to avoid. i took at least 20 pix of that damn goose*, who knows if a different one than i chose would have charmed the voters more than the one i did choose.
*this guy was watching me shoot and approached me afterwards. i was aware of his observation, and appreciated him keeping his distance while i was shooting, but i had no idea what he might want to say to me. i had to laugh when he said “I work for the goose, and it’s twenty-five cents a shot.” 😀

ParticipantYay I love that this is happening already. Just took some shots over the weekend that I’m dying to use. And as a former PSer, I always dig seeing what those crazy cats come up with.
Actually, come to think of it… what is there to say about someone participating in both the farktography AND photoshop contests for this one? hrrrmmm. It’s been a few years, but this is as good a reason as any to get back into it.
with the kitteh/caption contest i had loads of fun captioning… totally got more votes for my captions than for my farktography entries. (my entries meant nothing without captions, was the problem lol)

Participanti knew my pix weren’t great; i don’t have the lens for it and for that matter only got my DSLR what, last month? heehee but holy cow, the competition! i’m tempted to yank all my pix in shame! there is some fabulous stuff up there!! 😀

Participantoh my gosh, i was wondering what was keeping him away. my thoughts go out to him.

Participantthis is so much fun! i’ll almost be sad when the contest is over and i don’t have an excuse to keep running pix through the software. =P

Participantokay, i only have two entries for tomorrow, i only have one for next week and if i get any more halfway decent ones i’ll be surprised (and certainly very pleased) , but i’ve got this one nailed down! 😆 i’m keeping my eyes open, of course, in case anything even better comes along. 😉

Participanti get to spend the next 20.5 hours trying to decide which version of one pic i want to use…….. yay. =P

Participantedited again to just be nothing.

Participanti find this completely unacceptable. only if a contest states when it is posted that the pictures will be open for photoshop contests would this be okay. i was totally fine with this for the kitteh contest, because i knew in advance. i reserve all my rights to my photographs. maybe some of you would consider my degree of distress uncalled for, but this upsets me very much.
edited to add:
yes i know it can and does happen all the time. no, this doesn’t make theft acceptable.
