ParticipantThere should be something man made in the picture that is composing the skyline. Thus, farmscapes would be valid but not just a series of trees.

ParticipantI’d like to pass on the Farkholga before I move, I believe thepostess was next?

ParticipantI think it’s those arcanities that prompted gnomes to suggest you provide an explanation.

ParticipantWell, considering I’m moving across the country at the end of the month, I won’t be available to host the Farktography party in Seattle at this time. I’m still happy to be a host in my new location, which is actually still TBD, but will be decidedly east coast, not west.

ParticipantI agree with you both, I have only 1 picture that really fits the specifics and probably no time to go take more at this point.

ParticipantSo I finally have access to a computer (my pictures were posted by my roommate, using my computer without sharing my fark password) and I now see that my favorite picture didn’t get voting enabled. 🙁
Also, Boston for St. Patrick’s Day is awesome.

ParticipantScrolling through I keep having the same reactions: I used to have that, wow I loved that, I haven’t played that game in forever, oh crap I should have taken a picture of that because I have that too, etc. Especially Mopsy, since my dad gave me Bananagrams for my birthday and it was a surprise to see that we’re the only 2 people posting MTG (so far).

ParticipantYeah…it is Wednesday right?

ParticipantI don’t think that scanning is the same as photography for the purposes of this contest. However I would say that I would allow ZeroExponent‘s entry for this contest only and then clarify the rules regarding scanning because we have points for debate and it was a clever idea. I agree with soosh that it could be a cool theme someday.
I agree it’s a slippery slope. If we allow scanner captures regularly then why not screen captures? They both rely on the computer to assemble the image.
I also think allowing such things takes away from the technique and art of the work people put into composition of photographs of light and air and perspective, depth of field, all things that are either absent or difficult to achieve with a scanner.Kestrana
ParticipantWell it’s a contest after all. If two people have the same subject, who executed the photograph better?
If I could throw in my $.02, I think linking to another picture highlighting your missing attributes or an explanation for those who aren’t getting it would be better than captions. Because if you’re like me, you’ll want to stare at the picture until you figure it out for yourself. And come back again the next day and stare some more when you still haven’t figured it out. And then realize it helps to turn ON the computer monitor…

ParticipantThanks, Elsinore, U-man; I was sure I’d read in the photoshop that pic max was 600pxl/side; nice to know I can go a little large in farktography! I generally just cut the quality of my jpegs now to keep them under the minimum (and had no idea how to do that when I started; learning new things every day!!)
That’s one of the best things about farktography, the learning new stuff all the time. Anyway I’m glad to see a new active member 😀

ParticipantMmm beer week…that takes me back a few to when I lived in Verdi.
Kestrana
ParticipantVery cool, congrats

ParticipantI think there’s a delineation on “famous people” though. Obviously someone like a President or Tiger Woods is a famous face that a majority of people would recognize. On the other hand, someone like Melinda Gates (Bill Gates’ wife) or your local newscasters are ‘famous’ but the majority of people voting for fark wouldn’t recognize them if they sat down next to them or saw a picture of them.
