    Only two?

    Amateur.

Actually, three if the wife counts 😉

Unfortunately I don’t have your tech skills to rig stuff up cheaply, either (I had to google the word “dremel”. It is now one of my favourite words).

It’s a nice favor to warn me if you’re posting tentacles!

    /pathological fear of tentacles
    //no shit panic attacks
    ///octopi is right out

Too much Japanese hentai porn as a young girl, eh?

    Tentacles are some good eating.

    Jellyfish are in though, right?

did some searching and schnee has posted here since august. i hope he is ok.

I was wondering about that. I thought I had seen him post recently in the thread where CauseISaidSo posted that dinky bit of code showing positions in the votes thread, but upon further inspection I didn’t see his name in the thread
    🙁

I get your point. I mean I travel a lot of places in the City, and I always have my camera. I am kind of giving myself the limitation that I went to someplace specifically to take photos not just because I was going there anyway. For simplicity sake we should probably give some sort of guideline, like the City limits, or at least Zip Code.

I think city limits at the very least, but it’s not my theme, so it’s not my decision. I wouldn’t mind some clarification on this…

I really wish I could go back to my family home for this one.
Sooo much stuff there would fit this contest.

Definitely like the open definition for this one.

Just got to figure out a cool way to shoot “Kiss me baby one more time”….

In the immortal words of Buckaroo Banzai, “Where ever you go, there you are” so travel could be construed loosely? So, when we say travel photography is there a mileage limit or a geographic boundary? What I am saying is, these days, traveling to another Borough is a big endeavor and constitutes a “trip”.

Hey, I don’t get out of the City much!

There’s a Bilbo Baggins quote somewhere in there….
Damn those hobbits and their folksy wisdom.

Anyway, that raises a pretty key point. I mean, I go off somewhere–anywhere–and I usually take a camera with me, but I wouldn’t define that as travel photography.

Because with a loose definition, pretty much anything goes.

*if this post makes no sense, I apologise. I should have gone to bed 5 hours ago.

Thanks for the theme suggestion, Morningbreath!

    Where haven’t I been!?

I think it was a good theme, somewhat reminiscent of “On the Streets” in that often you are taking pictures of people you don’t know. Also it was interesting for considering how much to include: a close up of the subject deep in concentration? or pull back to show the work they are doing? pull back more to put the work in context? and so on.
I took a few shots for this contest, but ended up discarding them for pictures I already had.

    A few B sides:

I was particularly torn over whether or not to post the first of the B sides.
I took it years ago (film), before I really started paying attention to the finer points of photography, but I kinda like it, and it fits the theme beautifully.

    Nice, especially the first one.

I once went to a balloon festival, hoping to get some cool night-time shots of the balloons (they had a similar show planned to yours, zincprincess).
The missus and I sat around on a grassy bank for 3 and a half hours in quite chilly mid-autumn weather, waiting for the show to begin, me with my camera all set up.
A couple of balloons sort of started to inflate. Then, nothing.
About an hour later, after we had been waiting easily over 4 hours, an announcement was given then the show was cancelled due to the weather (too much wind).
We then enjoyed an hour’s wait for the train to take us back to civilization.
    Lovely.

We did, however, get to enjoy a beautiful sunset, so all was not lost.

I second ravnostic‘s advice on the spare battery (and flash using up battery). Also, shooting using live view instead of the viewfinder also uses up the batteries fast on my camera.

On a different note, I love how the marketing chappies at Canon came up with different names for the the same camera for the US and Japanese markets:
“Right, Japan. Let’s go cute, let’s go cuddly, let’s go Gene Simmons, let’s go KISS!!!”
“America? Let’s go wild, let’s go Mavericky, let’s go James Dean, let’s go REBEL!!!!”

    He’s actually a ninja poster.
The “U” of “U-Man” stands for the Uwajima sub-branch of the famous Iga sect of ninjutu.
Man just means the 10,000-plus votes he’s earned.
    See?

    CauseISaidSo
I had a quick look at your site. I have adblock enabled, but it seemed to be mostly okay. The only problem was that when I clicked on some of the thumbnails to enlarge, they opened to the bottom right of the screen, cutting off the the bottom edge of the picture. I had to drag them up to the centre.
The top row of thumbnails seemed okay, they opened in the centre of the page. It was only the ones below that that opened in a wonky way.

    /btw, I liked your first firework b-side a lot
