ParticipantI *know* they have to have the equivalent in Japan…
//not using it…just saying 😉
I don’t think the Japanese versions have the “compensating-for-something” bulge down around the waist…
That said, what I wanted to say is that there is stuff I can find here to fit the theme, such as samurai swords and armour, but taking a *good* shot of a museum exhibit (especially behind glass or from a distance) is different from taking a shot for Farktography, if you see what I mean.
Anyway, I’m not complaining about the theme, it’s perfectly open to a wide range of objects and therefore fair. I expect some cool stuff, and I will try to view the competition a week or so later when I have internet access again.

ParticipantI will be away travelling without access to the internet, so I will miss this one. Actually, this is one I am quite happy to skip. I come from a largely no-guns allowed society, and live in a no-guns allowed society.
I was thinking of going off to a nearby castle to shoot samurai swords for this one. Or dressing up in drag and hanging around Sasebo base to pick up a horny American sailor to photograph.
Mind you, if what I’ve heard about US Navy guys is true, I will have far more chance getting pulled if I DON’T go in drag… 😉/Helloooo, Sailor Boy!

ParticipantI was trying to come up with a way of splitting postage. I don’t have a credit card, which might be a problem.
Anyway, I will be going away at the end of this month for a couple of weeks, so if thepostess wants to have a whirl with the Holga before me, that’s fine by me.LeicaLens
ParticipantWhat does this mean? My hunch is that we’ve got a lot of people looking at the contests, but not a whole lot of people bothering to vote these days.
That could well be true.
I hope we don’t go the way of Photoshop themes, which now generally seem to be lowly populated in terms of entrants, low-vote garners, and–I suspect–low in terms of views.LeicaLens
ParticipantThat old lens is really something, rav.
I have got nowt for this week except an old archive pic if I can find it. This country is too clean.
And I am feeling a bit lazy.LeicaLens
ParticipantFor really slow shutter speeds, use an ND filter or two. Say one ND4 and one ND8. Best to focus before putting on the filters (then switch camera to manual focus so it doesn’t refocus when you take meter/take the shot. Obviously, you will need a tripod.

ParticipantThat’s really quite surreal.
Some bloke writes the date of his lens in pencil on the inside, and some other bloke finds it 131 years later.
Weird./no, I have not been smoking weed

ParticipantPretty cool, rav. That top one would almost have fitted last week’s B&W theme.

ParticipantGood grief, 6 or 7 posts and no one’s been in to snark about buying a “proper” camera, i.e. a Canon?
I’m shocked, SHOCKED!Anyway, sorry to hear about your camera, zincprincess. Some Japanese websites I checked said the fault was a dodgy part used in the power on/off control. Hopefully easy to fix so you get it back soon.
Stories like yours are why I keep trying to persuade the missus to let me buy a “backup” digital camera.
She just points at my mobile phone and says “that’s got a digital camera. Use that.”Disclaimer: I don’t use Canon

ParticipantWell, I do want inclusivity, but not to the point of strip poker, etc. Will stick with the ‘amended’ theme description, then. Rubik: In. Spin-the-bottle: Out. I’ll await Elsinore’s input on the amendum wording, however. Must. Sleep. Now. I’ll check at dusk for updates.
Wait, so strip poker is out?
Well there go MY entries this week 😥

ParticipantI am not a mod (thank goodness), but I would say the picture shot is OK, olavf because the picture (engraving?) isn’t the totality of the photograph.
I have to say, I really don’t envy the mods, this week especially.

ParticipantI really enjoyed this theme. In the end, I used two shots from my archives (the guy fishing in the river, and the mobile phone shot, which, upon reflection, I should have discarded), but I had a lot of fun taking shots for this week. It also made me look at the world in a new light. As rav said, colour is a hard thing NOT to photograph. It was amazing how colour would creep into photographs which, at first glance, looked completely grey, or black and white.

ParticipantThanks, olavf! Now I wish I had posted that water-drop photo…
I also edited the pervious post, so the link should load now.The “Picture of a picture” issue is a rather tricky issue, isn’t it. Very effective monument, though.

ParticipantI had a few to choose from this week, so here’s few B-sides. My last entry I was really torn on.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/49526249@N02/4794897423/With the above links, I wasn’t sure that the second to last one fitted the theme, so I left it out. The last one is somewhat abstract, and I made the fatal error of trying to pick the random splurge that is farktography voting.
Anyway, in the end I went for something different.(edited to make last link work)

ParticipantDear-ho me, rav, an astronomy geek not up on his Star Wars. Next you’ll be telling me you hate Star Trek.
