ParticipantI notice there are a few pictures of dogs in the snow, but NONE OF CATS!! That tells you something, eh?
That cats are too clever to go out into the freezing snow
Sorry, I used this already

ParticipantSlut thread.
I try to do the gizmodo weekly challenges, but since they outright ban archive diving and pre-planning, I usually end up just browsing the pretty pictures.
I had looked at these, but the having to shoot stuff that week scared me off too.

ParticipantOkay, now it’s my turn for silly questions. Elsinore you mentioned that canned textures are probably over the line, but by that, you’re referring to using an image or a shape to ‘wrap’ the picture around – like if you were to mold a picture onto a sphere, or someone’s face, for example – and not brush-type filters. Am I correct in this?
I can link one of the shots I’m planning on using if I’m not being clear.
Im not sure if Im happy you reminded me with this that I had another picture I may use for tonight that I forgot about or mad that I now have another picture I have cut down from to get down to 3.

ParticipantWell this explains why I thought orionid was looking different in your recently uploaded pictures and was trying to figure out why he was whispering into someone elses ear.

ParticipantSo how famous and recognizable are we talking about for this? If I was to do something from DC does it have to be some very recognizable landmark like the whitehouse or can it be of lesser known monuments or neighborhoods that most people might not instantly know is DC without a caption and just say its DC?

ParticipantIs digitally making a holga pic pushing it too far processing wise?

ParticipantThe first one made me laugh, but the second one may be more vote whoringish.

ParticipantI personally enjoy the one use rule making it so theres new photos every week and then having the anniversary contests so that you get to see peoples favorite shots from the past year one more time. If we were to change the rule I’d say go for the wait a year option but that seems like it would be a lot more work to police as well as for entering repeat photos since you’d had to be digging back through past contests to see if you’ve waited long enough to use it again.

ParticipantThat dude rocks. Lots of HDR stuff. Did he outgrow us?
(btw – that’s a non-judgmental question. I’m sure there is ‘beyond farktography’. 🙂 )
Yeah I think he did a little bit. I still see him posting on flickr every now and then and I know he has had a few of his storm photos published in major magazines, etc. From what I can tell he works as a part-time storm-chaser and ends up posting a lot of photos of the now famous storm-chaser vehicles that are featured on the discovery channel. Not sure if he’s getting paid for that or if it’s just a hobby…
Edit: Here’s a link to one of his public sets. Looks like he got involved in a big project. Doesn’t say who he was/is shooting for. http://www.flickr.com/photos/digicana/sets/72157623078446955/
I remember a year or 2 ago he had a blog or something with a bunch of his photos that made it on fark.

ParticipantOf course the one time Maryland’s weather isn’t constantly changing is leading up to this contest and I’ve been stuck with boring overcast days.

ParticipantSo something like a shot of people on the beach would work for nice summer weather?

ParticipantRight eye, I’d guess most people use whichever eye is their dominant eye.
