ParticipantI have nothing for this yet, but plan on remedying that this evening. Sort of a Mandatory Procrastination, redux.

ParticipantOh, I’ve been waiting, not so patiently for this one! Yay!

Yeah, speeds this fast would catch just about everything…

ParticipantI think Rav answered in a FB post. 24 hours pre-post time. Yes?
Ay-yep, but Orionid already 10-4’d it. I might have 2 in the bag. I don’t like the reaction to #2. So maybe not. This is a bitch–I’ve thought of a few things now that would work, only I can’t get the props this time of night…

ParticipantI’m kind of glad my dad’s knee surgery was today–it’s kept me from dwelling on this one so much. I’ve had last-minute shots before, but it’s been hard not knowing what I’d do. As it is, while waiting for word on dad (went great–they’ve already had him up on his feet once, albeit his leg is somehow ‘blocked’ from any feeling), I FINALLY thought of an idea. I think it’s a good one, so then I’ll only need two more inspirations to occur and I’ll be set. I feel guilty, though, for planning the shot before 6pm local/8pm farkistan. I’m waiting till then before I do any work, though.

ParticipantGreat video–but he skeered me. I shoot with a Canon xTi! I would never presume to do a wedding without the explicit understanding that I’ve never done one before. And I certainly would charge a deeply discounted (say, $250) rate because I know there are shots I wouldn’t get.
I’m looking forward to working with my model friend Jodi over the holiday furlough; I’m sure she’ll be able to give me tips on how to capture her properly, portraiture being my least experienced area. And dammit–I gotta find me that wallet I lost in my house (the one with $700 from the casino), so I can get me an x3i, which would be a decent step up, at least. (Yeah, I’d love a full-frame seriously professional camera, and some better lenses…but I’m not there yet, financially–maybe if I win the Az. millionaire’s raffle, lolz.)
ravnostic
ParticipantWell, congrats on it–but I’m glad it leaves you one shy of a theme I’m also totally unprepared for!!

ParticipantRav. Not a composite. I just took a I believe it was 1 second exposure and then turned down the brightness a full stop or a bit more in Canons DPP. The ISO was at 800 I think. It was really Dark out by that point. I never realized how long that shadow has to chase the Moon to make it that pretty red color either.
You know, we city folk, we forget how a clear sky can separate a bright source from it’s lesser brightly sourced surroundings and allow both to be seen. As you can see from the ones I posted, it ain’t happening within 10 miles of Phoenix (more like 100, really). But thanks for the info.
I feel like Jerry Seinfeld when Terry Hatcher told him they were real…and they were fabulous
**I missed it!!**

ParticipantWaaay late bees. I thought of these, like yesterday.

http://photos.imageevent.com/ulle17/peopleplaces/Aloha–172.jpg (T-shirt store, Maui)I’m sorry, but I really think we ought to have a set date in which entering ‘bees’ is acceptable. π

8) I keed–seem to be enough open worm cans without starting that kind of frivolity. I love the 2nd one. I have to say, though, U-Man, in the interest of honesty; I did not vote for your winning shot this week (it’s a 3 point lead at 11:30 MST, at least). It’s a great shot. It’s fantastic. But I didn’t get the ‘storefront theme’ vibe from it.
However, that’s farktography. I would have saved it for Season’s Greetings, where it would have surely fared really well (I’d want it as my seasonal card at least). The very fact that you didn’t save it has me worried sick about what you’ve planned that must be better. π₯
I dun’t haf no ting fer dat one yet.

ParticipantCaradoc–I knowhacha mean on the pollution. And my view directed upon it’s source, the greater Phoenix central region. Airport haze for days–and some high clouds. The clouds went away. The haze just got to be more evident.
Lokisbong— Composite? Because I’m no where near that range between the moon and the stars. Why, SAO 76920 is just beaming! And I can’t see 76971 nor 76972 at all. It’s a GREAT shot–I’d love to know how you did it.
I got interrupted from processing by a cool photowalk, and am overwhelmedwith 447 images (well, I deleted one, thus far) π . I have stuff. I really do.
But for the moment, I’ll post a SOOC and a PP photo. Mind you, I took 70 photos, from 5:40 to 7:10 MST. I was bound by odds to get something right.
Here’s the SOOC. I have a friend who’s going to work with me on the PP; it’s a trio of exposures. I’m afraid this, the brightest, is pretty dark, and I wish I’d one brighter. But–for SOOC, I think it’s spiffy:

The second has a story, which I’ll copy/paste from G+, :
This shot was taken at 7:07am MST, overlooking downtown Phoenix.
Can you spot the totally eclipsed moon? (It reached totality at 7:06am). It’s there, I promise.
So I’m up there on the top deck of the parking garage when a coworker comes along and starts telling me “I should do this”, “You should change your f/stop to this”, “I know–outside of work this is what I do”, “I meant to bring my camera**”, and “Well, it’s over now, you’ll never see that in a photo–look at that pollution, the sky is too bright,” yada yada yada.
I politely told him I do a little picture-taking myself and I think I can. He then proceeded to show me two non-impressive (blurry as hell) pictures of the moon he’d taken with his 70-200 on a 20D body, but cut short his instructional lessons because he was due in at work (he was a day shift person.)
I muttered, “Good riddance” and took a few more shots–and this is one of them. Some post processing WAS called for (I wouldn’t say extravagant–it’s applied to fark ‘across total image and not cartoonish’ standards–yet it WAS considerable tweeking.) But don’t tell me I can’t do something when I put my mind to it.
**forgot that when I was posting on G+
Rant over, here’s the shot I got after it was ‘over’. Linked because it’s larger than I’d want to post here. (250K 960xwhatever)

clicky picture will embigg’in, same window.
I do have shots of just the moon, I haven’t gotten to pp’ing them yet.
Glad I wasn’t the only one trying and good shots by both of you!

ParticipantI feel ya, Orionid–my work schedule often precludes my astro-photographic wants. I’ve missed most of the meteor displays since I started there–and ALL of the good ones. It helps to live in a desert, though, regarding overcast skies (except in the summer).
Caradoc, I’ll be heading south if I get out early from work (I only asked for an hour, it will get me out of the valley and well on my way to Tucson). If not, when I get out, there won’t be time to drive anywhere–a rooftop shot, a downtown Phoenician backdrop–that’s what I’ll have time for and the proximity of. It is what it is. See Orionid’s comment.
ravnostic
ParticipantI think I do, too!
ravnostic
ParticipantIt happens, Orionid Chances are the next one will be visible for you, and probably not for me (though I haven’t looked.) Depending whether I get off an hour early, i’ll either get the setting eclipsed moon over the Phoenix skyline, or over some desert mountains. We’ll see how it goes.
ravnostic
ParticipantFarktographer; I got a notice that the 30 day subscription I footed for you has expired. That’s the bad news–the good news is it gives you a couple more hours before you’re able to post to get your pictures ready!! π
ravnostic
ParticipantLolz, doesn’t look too thrilled with apples!!
