ParticipantHey, I used an Ultrapod to suspend the flash above me for my shots this week! I hadn’t used it in over a year, but now that I’m getting the flash off-camera, I can see the possibilities.

ParticipantThe participation stats have this as a really good theme:
Total Farktographers: 131
Boobies: 51
Total Entries: 228Sweet!
schnee
ParticipantYeah, Zeke did puss out. Weenie.
I actually sent a Farktography invite to this guy, but he’s a no-show as well. So far.

ParticipantIndeed, nice to meet you all. Except someone. Someone who’s a mod in these here parts. I’m (not) looking at you Morningbreath, but I suppose you didn’t want to ruin your profile, which I respect. Night’s still early, however.
oh SURE, notice that MorningBreath is missing but no one mentions the lowly ‘bort is also MIA…..
I noticed, but figured that you’d chime in as some time. As Curious pointed out, we know what you look like and I figured we get some more ‘bort goodness shortly.

Participantschnee your shots are great and your setup description looks pretty impressive too. very professional. except for that one misspelling
Thanks! was it “re-shoot”? Fixed now, if so. “Schneemian” is intentional. If not either, what? It’s killing me….
I really enjoy seeing what people look like
me too. it’s why i overcame my usual reluctance to post face shots of myself. my fark profile pic is from behind.

ParticipantOn the off-chance anyone want to sort of get an idea of what I did, here’s a link.

ParticipantEF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM
EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USMAnyone had any experience with either? I probably can’t afford the 100-400, it is out of my price range at the moment.
I have the 70-200 f/4L but the older non-IS version. It is one sweet lens – I call it my magic lens. Mechanically, it is very solid – constant aperture, deadset manual focus, quick autofocus, &c. , but the optics, oh the optics. Very sharp and very nice color.
You’ll see some samples of what it can do tonight over on Fark.
schnee
ParticipantStupidly, I checked my film and it got ruined by the x-ray.
That sucks. What did you lose?
schnee
ParticipantLesson, be careful of the tools.
i’m guessing you mean the TSA.
Language, thy name is ambiguousity. 🙂
schnee
ParticipantThe only trouble I had was when I tried to bring a hex wrench on board (it’s for my ballhead). I forgot it was in my camera backpack and they made be throw it out.
Lesson, be careful of the tools.
schnee
ParticipantIs anyone else wishing their cameras didn’t capture quite so much detail?
smear vasoline on a cheap filter, attach to lens.
schnee
ParticipantIts also in Schnnes reply (thanks for posting it!) also if this ends up not working.
Different portfolio, but you’re welcome anyway.
schnee
ParticipantWelcome aboard! Wait a minnit, you’re not such a noob. Have a portfolio anyway. You’ve got some pretty nice photos there.
schnee
Participantlinguine. Your photos are very nice. It looks like you hung out on the South Rim mostly. I never knew one could get some many vantages from there.
I was there 7 years ago or so in May. Backpacked down the South Kaibab Trail, two overnights in Phantom Ranch and then hiked out out on the Bright Angle Trail. I mis-loaded my film and have no photographs of the Phantom Ranch Area. None. Bummer.
But here’s the paleolithic photoblog of the hike in and out.
schnee
Participant/using film so I will have to wait to see how they turned out.
Yay! Another Luddite!
