ParticipantWell, I thought of purple bruises, whips and purple velvet restraints immediately…

ParticipantI had a hard time deciding on which images to use tonight. I just shot a glassblowing class last week, and had lots to choose from. I changed my mind on one right at the last second- had to go back and change it on the host and everything.
SilverStag
ParticipantNah, I just need it for when I have the shakes.

ParticipantLOL swampa!
I wish my budget allowed me a new body at present. I’m just going to have to console myself with my 70-300VR I received in the mail yesterday.

ParticipantEverything I’ve read says the D300 is the cat’s meow. Get one- you deserve it. I don’t think the extra 3.2 grand is worth it for a D3.
13 years? What did you major in? 😯

ParticipantI only mentioned ‘qualified’ in the sense that you would have some idea and method to prevent ballot-stuffing, joe blow on the internet would be unable to vote anonymously, so to speak- would at least have to have, say, a userid on the system.
SilverStag
ParticipantWell, first off, remember that it’s Farkers doing the voting 🙂
Second, perhaps the only way to get a fair “contest” (and I use the word “contest” very loosely here, because it really is only an exhibition) is to have a blind voting period before you announce a ‘winner’, which is undoubtedly far too much work for a simple Fark thread.
My ideal contest site would work something like this:
People who are qualified voters (i.e. there’s some requirement, no matter how loose) are presented with a randomized set of images from the contest that they score by some criteria (conformance to theme, technical merit, artistic merit, whatever else) and the scores are averaged/weighted to produce a single number. This helps alleviate the ‘earlier pics score better’ or ‘viewer fatigue’ issues.
It’s not easy to run a true contest, which is why I tend to use the word ‘exhibition’ a lot.
That said, this is run for fun and we need to keep that in mind. I look at my 33 or so votes in this last contest not as 10th place, but as “Hey, 33 people liked my stuff enough to vote! Cool!

ParticipantI think wide works better for showing distance (Sigma 10-20):

Participant300 entries & the thread has stopped loading at all for me. BORK.

ParticipantYou cervidly seem to like to like the deer…
*groan*

ParticipantThis one’s going to be another *epic* contest- I can tell already. Good job, people.

ParticipantA note about my #1: I had taken a nap at the rest area shown in the photo. When I got back on the road, I heard about 9/11 on the CB. I was taking the photo probably a couple of hours after the attacks started, but I bought the camera in California and the time was off because I hadn’t set it to the correct time zone yet.
SilverStag
ParticipantUman, what was your setup for that snowflake?
SilverStag
ParticipantCrap, mine is a dupe… I looked at the two raw files I thought I used instead of the actual jpgs- I’ll change the file to a different one on the server. – In fact I’ll put up a different one, so go ahead and delete the one.
SilverStag
ParticipantI went back and checked the EXIF to make sure- they are about a minute apart.
