ParticipantDamn, I thought the resolution had been no people as the source of the heat, but incidental people like firemen at a fire were OK. Was that not the case?
Uranus said this as the end of the revision discussion:
I guess the accent is on things, so biologicals are out . And heat is the thermal kind, with the exclusion of capsicin. There. I said it.
Ah, I was scanning for the word “people” and missed “biologicals”.

ParticipantI think “things made of fiberglass” is going too far. A picture of a canoe, for instance, in a theme of glass?
Just my opinion.

Participantmy 100-400 has a panning mode, but honestly I’ve never really tried it.

Participanttorched some US coinage last night in the pursuit of photos for the contest tonight.
pennies are so cool when they swell up and disgorge their aluminum center.

Participantbut see, IS won’t help with a moving subject. It can only compensate for camera movement.

Participantyou have the MP-E? I really really want one of those.
But honestly, IS isn’t going to help you that much with serious macro. For detail in close, IS isn’t going to be good enough to make the difference. I turn off IS on my 100-400 when it’s on a tripod, because the image is sharper without it.

ParticipantI agree that it’s too much. I didn’t play too much with trying to finesse it – today was the first time I’d ever attempted it and I didn’t have much time to experiment, I just wanted to see some result.
I do kind of like the disorienting effect of them for effect’s sake.

ParticipantThanks!
I really want to get back there when the light is more dramatic. The interiors are a frustrating place to photograph. Completely poorly lit, under a cover of forest. I’d like to try it with some slanting late or early day sunlight, in heavy fog, and under a full moon.
This fall, I’m going to head down there during one of our hellacious wind and rain storms and get some shots with the rain and the wind pouring in.
Here are some others I’ve taken down in that area. The ones from today were from just one building – there’s a whole abandoned mine city rotting away down there.

Participantno, the free version of photomatix. thank god for the healing brush – made it easy to get rid of the watermarks.

ParticipantFolks, never have I been so pleased to have a photo in the top 10. Freaking amazing contest this week. Everyone should be proud.
You deserve it! It is a good pic.
Lord knows how in the hell soosh did so well. It’s like he’s done these kind of pics before or something. 😀
Actually, I think that soosh could pick random photos off of his hard drive and come up with a winner for this contest.
As folks have already said, lots of goodness this week.
Heh. I do shoot a lot of low-light stuff, that’s true.
