ParticipantPerhaps I shouldn’t show a pic before a theme – but check this one out.

I guess I was panning along with the first guy’s head and the rest of the world was flailing around. That’s a 1/4 sec exposure.

ParticipantTrippy U-Man!
/where’s that day-late-and-a-dollar contest when you need it 😉Oh, that pic will fit some theme. Actually, I was thinking of introducing some sort of blur theme. I ran across a guy’s Flickr account who likes blurred images. There was some good stuff. I plan on playing with it more. I think panning is part of what is in my head, but the idea hasn’t crystallized yet.
Those remind me of Japanese brush paintings.
I agree. They’re starting to grow on me.
U-Man Love the first one. Do you a) sell prints, or b) mind if I get it printed and matted?
Awww. Thanks. No, I don’t sell prints. But I’d be happy if you printed a copy. Can I e-mail a large file here or via Facebook?

ParticipantI missed that too. Kestrana’s caught my eye. But both of them keep to the spirit of the theme. I mean, it’s not like they just took a photo of somebody else’s abstract abstract glass work and used it. Both required an appreciation of the setting and lines and curves.
I gots no problem with either.
U-Man
ParticipantI would favor the unrestricted version.

ParticipantJust got back from Monster Jam with MEGA-SAUR-US. I haven’t seen the pics yet, but I bet one is going into this theme. Perhaps one into Pan Fried as well.

ParticipantI was out shooting for the ‘On the Streets’ theme today and drove past a grassy area by some water treatment place. There were about 100 geese on the grass so I decided to scare ’em up and try some panning. In order to get some nice blur, I jacked down the aperture initially to FORTY and then adjusted it to 22. Shutter speeds ranged from about 1/32 to 1/4 sec.
Pretty much completely failed with the panning thing because the geese were up over any sort of blur-able background pretty fast. Also, the slow speed caused the wings to blur pretty badly. And, holy shiat, those stopped down settings REALLY make the sensor dust jump out.
However, I got three neat pics. Artsy-fartsy motion blur types. One has a background and may make it into this theme. Here are two others (after a bunch of dust removal)

ParticipantTotally fine with me.
For you HDR n00bs, the easiest program I have found is Photomatix. I certainly haven’t done an exhaustive search, but I like it. It can do artoon-y HDR or pretty realistic. Downside –> it costs $100.

Participantcorsec67‘s comment made me go look around the ‘net for fisheye lenses (briefly and – thankfully – without success). I did stumble upon this though. http://content.photojojo.com/diy/make-your-own-fisheye-lens/
My middle kid is far sighted. I just found a pair of her old glasses. The lenses are really scratched and pretty small. But I am definitely going to try it sometime over the next few days.

Participant“With this lens, behind me”.
Literal LOL. 🙂

ParticipantHuh? Anybody have an example or three?

ParticipantThis is cool. It will push those of us on the edge into somewhat uncomfortable photography. Some won’t be ready for it.

ParticipantYou guys are great.

ParticipantSome of my B-Sides:

http://photos.imageevent.com/ulle17/fark/Neon_1943.jpg (too close to my Neon entry – one pic later 90 degree different crop)
http://photos.imageevent.com/ulle17/fark/Abstract_0981aa.jpg – When bowls of water sit for a few minutes a million bubbles form.
http://photos.imageevent.com/ulle17/fark/Abstract_0985.jpg – same bowls, on a wet towel
http://photos.imageevent.com/ulle17/fark/Neon_1927.jpg – more blue neonBy the way, the blue neon and the colored pillars I used in the theme were shot with a P&S Elph.
edit – one of the links I provided was to the thumbnail, not the image.

ParticipantI have 4 possibles that were all shot while at Disney in ’08. One is getting saved for next week. Two will probably be used this week. Gonna try something else tonight.

ParticipantCool.
I agree with corsec’s comment about the irony of doing well in a theme where others aren’t ‘supposed’ to like the pic. 🙂 Wierd.
