ParticipantHey, flowers is pretty much what I do. I wasn’t going to not enter flowers. Dammit. And, I do not have purple in my house, far too girly. 😛
Swampa, that “painted” building, was that from the Adelaide festival? A friend of mine sent me a bunch of pics from that, and I thought how awesome it would be to have been there to take pictures, so if you were, I am so totally jealous.
Also, super shot of the wheel.

ParticipantI’ll get my photos sorted tonight and check them here.
Thanks Elsinore

ParticipantNo people! No people at all! 😀
How about a new title of “A moment of reflection” to differentiate from the original, or is that still to close to what we had before? I can’t think of any good synonyms for reflect right now. 🙁

ParticipantHow do you know it’s a vehicle?
It looks like one!
It turned me into a newt! I got better though.A friend told me “newt” is British slang for gay. Whether or not it’s true, it makes the scene so much better. From another source I heard “shrubbery” is slang for prostitute…teehee.
A nice shrubbery! Not too expensive though…
I don’t think your friend is quite right in the head department. I’ve never heard either expression, and these construction lads I work with would be sure to at least use shrubbery. I have learnt some other very interesting coloquialisms though.

ParticipantFor those of us who are colour blind, if it’s more on the pink side, will we be penalised for being a bit crap in the eye department? I can never tell the difference between pink and purple when it gets to the edges or darker colours. I sometimes struggle with blues and purples too. And then there’s the green and blue thing, which in theory means I could be taking pictures of green stuff and just thinking it’s purple. Egads!
But seriously. If it’s a bit on the pink side, it’ll be OK?

ParticipantAh, I thought I was in big trouble there for a minute!

ParticipantThe package is on my sideboard, unfortunately my parents have been moving house and have had to spend some time at mine, which has seriously curtailed any photography.
As I haven’t opened the package yet, how many pictures are left? Who wants to process it? Do we want to keep sending it on?
Oh, and my parents are in their new home now, so no more interruptions!

ParticipantI have a similar dilemma regarding whether I should upgrade my 400D to a 40D. And then I get all bogged down in whether or not there really IS any difference that matters, and how I shot perfectly fine pics on my A70, and then start looking at lenses and lighting. End up all confused and give up. 🙂
Although I think I might stretch to a macro coupler, and try to stop getting camerabody envy.

Participanthmm…helpful stuff, considering my spidery fingers and girly wrists, the weight is indeed an issue. Also, they just about give away F70, F90 & F100’s here, because digitals are ludicrously cheap (D40 kit – ?380). Worth looking into.
Any real advantages to film, though? Any nasty pitfalls?
Send me your 40D, plskthx.

ParticipantI’m going to be taking some photographs at some events on my college campus, and I am wanting some advice on a couple things:
1) Dress – Khaki’s and a nice shirt, or dress pants and a tie?
2) How to approach people to take their photograph
I mainly only take pictures of still life and I am doing this as kind of a fun (hopefully) project. Any advice is greatly appreciated, as well as any thing else that could help me out.
Thanks 🙂
1) Dress appropriate to the dress code for the event. If the event is black tie, you wear black tie, if the event is casual, you wear casual. 🙂
2) Generally I just walk up and ask. It’s a bit rude (I think) to interrupt people in conversation, if they are, see if you can catch someone of the groups eye and point to the camera and to them and they’ll either nod, look at you blankly, shake their head or call security. The worst that will happen is that they will say “no” for the most part.
Just try and relax and have fun.

ParticipantI get heavy finger syndrome, so I’ve always used a self timer, but it’s a right thingy when you’re trying to photograph the eclipse on a cloudy night. I really must invest in a remote.
I’m also rather short, so I keep everything low anyhow!
I have some super ideas for this, which will all fail miserably, but I’m looking forward to trying them out. Had to miss From A Distance because my parents had come over for the evening, and I figured they wouldn’t appreciate me waking them at midnight to post or me spending the evening sorting out which photos I was going to use. Very inconsiderate of them all round really. 😉

ParticipantI have a lot of trouble with photography in general because I’m severely color blind. My buddy always tells me “you need to correct this color or that” and I’m like “Huh?”
Can sympathise/empathise with you on that one. 🙂
Yay for white balance correction. That’s saved me some hassle, I can tell you.

ParticipantI know the clock feeling, but in reverse. Woke up at normal time to submit, and the thread had been there for an hour. Did someone change the clocks over in the USA? I’m so confused. 🙁
Yeah, we’re on Daylight Savings now.
Thanks, I’ll remember to get up earlier until we fix our clocks too.
