The only person who’s ever e-stalked me was my own sister (since she lives in australia and never bothers to email or call she figured she’d find out what I was doing by devious means). Still, that’s one up on Swampa, eh! 😀

FutherMucker – after spending the last nine or so years reading the typing of a guy who seems to use the blunt end of a caber to type, I didn’t really notice. Glad you got your problems sorted out though!

I used to use my sunglasses as a filter when I had my Powershot A70. Provided they have a big enough lens to fit over the camera lens, and you don’t move it when you try to take the picture so you end up with the frame in shot (I managed that a couple of times!) it works pretty well. My oakleys used to give a bit of an orange tint to everything though, so you may need to fiddle with the colour a little after the fact, depending on your sunglass brand of choice. 😉

Usually the issue with printing is not the file size, but a combination of pixels per inch and actual physical image size. Some digital printing services want at least 150ppi, but most cameras come in with jpgs at 72ppi.

You can up the “quality” of the image (meaning more pixels) by adjusting it through your image modifying software of choice. This will make the physical size smaller, but give the necessary ppi for printing on some sites.

I now have too many pictures. Dammit. I need to prune. Anyone got a knife? 😆

You’re all cutting a fine line between funny and “somebody slap them, quick!”

(they’ve still made me chuckle though, which doesn’t say much for my sense of humour)

    I run gallery2 on xenpix.com

I’ve been having some issues with the most recent update of gallery (I use gallery so my mum can have her own space, she’s not great with computers) with it not taking pictures over a certain size (pixel, not file size). Completely bizarre.

If you need help on set up or anything, I should be able to help. Maybe. 😀

take a look at coppermine It’s what I’ve been using for my site at sacredartichoke for more than five years, and it’s really pretty good.

If anybody would like help in getting a coppermine gallery set up, let me know – I’d be glad to help as much as I can.

I might take you up on that offer of help later!

Also, after looking around your site, you win best photo title with this one “max_could_use_some_fill_flash.jpg” Classic. 😀

That looks pretty cool actually, and the quality surprised me for cell phones.

I’ve been using gallery2 on my website, but with each update it seems to go backwards. I’m not happy about the Flickr takeover thing, but gallery has screwed with my head.

I’ve looked at other options for my site, but I’m just completely clueless.

I’m a bit late to the party here, but I’d like to add some thoughts.

In the original thread, swampa made the point that this “effect” is not available to digitial photographers, as the border exceeds those allowed within the Farktography rules. I can see soosh’s points and reasoning as to why they should be allowed, but it does place a disparity on the rules depending upon your format of choice. I cannot add a film border to any digital shot I take, but the same shot, if taken with my film SLR would be submittable with the border effect. I call this an effect because it is not actually a part of the physical composition. It may be a part of the mental composition process that soosh (and others) go through when they frame up a shot, but it is not something that is physically visible at the time of shooting. Whilst I have nothing against the border for a final composition in any other area, within farktography, it is something that is a selective addition to photographs. The fact that the selection is done by which camera you pick up is not something that I see as making it OK. It’s not an in camera effect (it’s just in camera, har har). I see this along the lines of HDR. It’s something you can do, and many find it an attractive addition to their photographs. However, it could also be classed as a spot treatment. Not all of the photo is affected by this addition (if you look at it from a stand point of digital photography, you would have to do changes to only certain parts of the image to achieve the effect). It is a border. It was designed to help feed the film through the camera and provide protection to the edges of the film/negative and a border between images for ease of processing.

My feelings are that something that is not available to both digital and film users should really be considered a no go area (edit: I didn’t make this very clear. If I can’t add a film border to my digital photos, why should I be able to add a film border to my TLR or SLR photos? Things like vignetting (ie holga) can be achieved with lensbaby or you can get some dodgy filter to stick over the end of your camera.).

What I’m trying (and failing) to say, is that I believe if you see it through the viewfinder, it’s fair game. Anything outside of that is an addition or added effect to the photograph and should be universally within the Farktography rules. So IMO we either take away the film border, or we allow a new type of border for digital images.

I ramble, so I hope you can get what I’m trying to say.

Well, I think they’re all lovely (well, I voted for a whole bunch of them, anyhow!).

I wish to apologise to you all (and berate myself) for my excess of slackness lately. I was away over christmas, and I have my parents staying with me at the moment. I didn’t think it would be kind to wake them at 1am to post, then at 2am THEY woke ME up! HOW RUDE! 😀 If they had pre-warned me about that, I could have had some pictures ready to post.

Hopefully I’ll be back on the Farktography er wagon? next week. Although it might be the week after, because me and funny just aren’t happening at the moment. 🙁
