ParticipantSome B-sides and rejects for y’uns…
The dymo labels on the bins are hilarious!

ParticipantNice stuff in the contest! If I can get home early enough I might try one last time to get a good photo of my geek paraphernalia and post something.
I hate to call out one shot, especially so early, but the “bad heads” photo and story cracked me up.

ParticipantI’m out for this one, the theme was hard for me and I didn’t have enough time to work through the ideas to get good photos. But I’m ready to be amused and/or amazed by what you all came up with and will be voting over the next couple of days. So good luck to all my follow geeks!

Participantolavf, I love the biker shot!
And just kat that’s a nice shot on it’s own, but with the “strange bedfellows” it’s even better.

ParticipantThere’s some great photos tonight!
Here are a couple b-sides that didn’t make the final cut.
I might use them in the future if they fit a theme.

ParticipantI never feel comfortable taking pictures of people. I either feel like there’s some expectation to come up with something the subject(s) like, if they are posed or aware of the photo. Or I feel like I’m invading people’s privacy if it’s a candid/telephoto shot. The only people oriented photos I’ve been able to take without fighting the process is when people are performing or otherwise choosing to be on display. But since that last category it out for this week, I was surprised to find I have enough to pick and still have a couple of b-sides.
I have no idea what all this means, but it does show that for me these contest are enlightening. So thanks to all you fine people for pushing themes I don’t find comfortable. I would never have taken some of the photos I have today if I hadn’t been trying to meet the contest criteria.

ParticipantHelp! What does this mean? Throwing away unfetchable URL http://a%20href%3D/: 500 Can’t connect to a href=:80 (Bad hostname ‘a href=’) Some times I get it when posting from flicker and sometimes no problem.
It looks like you might be inserting the HTML link code into a box designed for a URL. Flickr gives you both.
That’s what I meant to say, I just said it in a much more confusing way. No need to thank me for that value add, it’s what I do. 🙂

OK… Since “a%20href%3d” is the string “a href=” after it’s been “URL encoded”, I think you pasted HTML where the domain name and URI of your image goes. Meaning the template calls for,
http=//???
where “???” is to be replaced with the domain name and URI of the link. I suspect you replaced it with the HTML your hosting site suggested instead. If so, look for a link on your image hosting site that starts with “http://” and use that instead. Anything with is not what you want…

ParticipantI suppose if I wasn’t lazy I could go to the FSM page and look at it…
😳
I found two reflections contests in the FSM. One from October 2005 called Reflections and one from May 2008 called A Moment of Reflection. The 2005 contest was unrestricted and the 2008 contest required that the subject only appear in the reflection.

ParticipantWhat about organized street protests, parades, etc…?

ParticipantHere’s another cluster of vultures as a b-side this week. I posted another one from the same set which is zoomed in more and vertical. But I like this one too, it just didn’t look as good as a 640 pixel wide image.
PS – I really like the variety and especially the photos with oddball sensibilities this week.

ParticipantHe should have rented a deer. They jump.

He should have bought a squirrel, the only sure way to avoid a car wreck.

ParticipantThere are a lot of beautiful, very powerful, photos in tonight’s contest! Scrolling down the screen in the FSM as the thumnails roll by is a like a rush of saturated color overload… I feel like I need sunglasses. 🙂
Here’s a couple b-sides if you need more creepy wildfire damaged sky shots.
Pond in Palo Alto at a wildlife preserve/park
Stand of tall grass at the same spot in Palo Alto
Sunset over the Pacific at Half Moon Bay

ParticipantOK, what say you all on a photo like this,

where the color in the sky was exaggerated by smoke/ash from wildfires? It was late in the afternoon, but particles VERY high in the air essentially accelerated the sunset and it started much earlier than normal. The colors were also quite odd. I have three sets of photos taken on three separate days when wildfires were raging and I’ve used a couple already in contests. But I wasn’t sure they fit this theme or not and wanted to get clarification before Wednesday.
I have other sunset shots since I seem to have a habit of pointing my camera at the sun for some reason… So I won’t be crushed if the consensus is that the smoke/ash ones aren’t allowed this week.

ParticipantOK, if you want to make is easier to see a summary of your Farktography results in faux-barchart format, edit this link
http://nihilon.com/cgi-bin/fsmf/???and replace “???” with your login name. If you have a blank in your name I think substituting “+” will work.
PS – If you get the format right, the first line of the results page will show the name of the Farktographer it summarized. Here’s an example…
Farktographer/Choc-Ful-A
If there’s no slash and a name something went wrong.
