Participantto keep the sale the shopkeeper should have super glued the aperture to f22 and sold the guy a lens.
or not 🙂

Participantnot sure about this exact theme but we have had hand shot photos before. i used a couple in the “behind the scenes” contest.

Participanti got nutin — again. the clouds got in the way of real stars. the star substitute stuff is sub par. since even my good stuff fails to register with the voters rather than post entries that will tank i’d rather sit out a contest now and then.
and for various reasons photo trips have been few and far between since Christmas.

Participantreally really nice.

Participantcould someone please explain the allure of holga. i’ve watched/read as some of you go on and on about the joys of holga but i just don’t get it.

ParticipantPfft..I barely have time to get something together for this site.
…. In the end, photography (for me) is a pleasurable activity, …. Farktography’s relaxed rules about archive diving allow me to shoot when I want and dive when necessary, plus the community is smaller and friendlier.

ParticipantAs it happens, they’re building that one where I am currently! It’s a good time to be an observational astronomer.
well yeah until they close that hole in the ozone layer. then your view will get all obstructed again.

Participanti have some really nice mosaic shots — would they count?

Participantorionid while reading the thread this caught my eye. Even with a leveled rig, and a diamond wheel designed for glass, I went through half the box to get three strips that weren’t all mangled up or cracked along the edges.
i’ve always had good luck with a (sharp) regular glass cutter. scribe it, tap on the back a little to enhance the breaking point, then sharply rap it across a table top edge. if the break has a good start and you land one side on the table and one in the air* you should get a nice clean break. a little dressing of the edge where the break occurs helps if you are going to be handling it much later.
* and by air i mean unsupported except by your hand. if you are trying to bend the glass ever so slightly when you strike the table top that helps too.

Participantennuipoet did a quick check at Adorama and the CF cards are twice the SD ones. although i don’t fill my 4GB cards usually i bought a couple 8s the other day just because. with my 10MP D3000 an 8GB SD card will hold 453 photos using NEF/RAW.

ParticipantHere are some of the devices I’m talking about:
that looks like a winner. decent price and ease of use. the reviewer who complained about FAT32 … well i’ll be nice an just say he/she is mistaken.

ParticipantOn a related note, suggestions for archiving digital work on the road? I don’t have a lappy but I will have access to a computer. I am pondering picking up a cheap external hard drive and loading it with the Canon EOS software to use for quick develop and storage. I’m so used to being no more than a day or two away from home I’ve never thought about archiving while traveling and leaving on the CF cards just ain’t gonna cut it.
an external should be fine but i’m wondering why you want to post process while on vacation. if you go that way you might be best served with one that is USB powered.
re the CF cards, are they just going to run out of room?
you might also want to see if there is a DVD burner available where you are going. preferably a dual layer one. when my sister visits she goes home with a CD/DVD of all i shot while she was here.

Participantjust got finished voting. sleeping your number one stands out for me in a sea of good photos.
