ParticipantI may be able to use one or two of those shots if they get developed in time.
i chuckled.
can i infer from your user name why you are still shooting film?

Participanti have my own hosting and a folder there for farktography. photos are “current contest name 1” then 2 and 3. it’s not an absolute rule but it does help keep them sorted. even then were it not for FSM (thanks schnee) checking for prior use would be more difficult.
i also have a PS convert folder on my computer where all entries are copied to prior to resizing. if i grab an original and then get a “replace file xxx” message when pasting that’s a pretty good clue. of course when i build a new computer that folder gets recreated on it so anything more than two years or so old may get missed.

ParticipantI have to say that the 18-105 lens that came with my D7000 is a great walk around lens,
i bought one of those to replace the 18-55 that is the kit lens for the D3000. the extra length is great. while a 2.8 would be better it’s fast enough for what i do. i’m happy with focus times and accuracy and the image quality is really good.

ParticipantThis one used several effects, including “focal point blurring” – could be wrong on the name.
really punched up the photo.

Participantwhy would one sneeze at a mountain?

Participanti hope it went well and the wedding couple like what you shot. also that they paid you extravagantly and will buy lots of prints.

Participantor out of my league (Software Hootenanny), I opt to cheer from the sidelines.
if you don’t have PS or one of the pay photo manglers the Gimp is free. i looked at my last entries and while they didn’t get a lot of votes i still enjoyed making them.
and the voters will surprise you. enter those shots you took. sometimes i stay out if it’s an archive dive but if i shoot for a contest by gosh something is going up.

Participanthrrm…initial indications are my ‘make it look like a retro travel brochure picture’ is a fail. Such is life. I like them, anyway. Remind me of the ones I saw when I was a wee lad, seeing the stuff in person for the first time.
i suspected that would happen but it’s a cool idea and well done. i voted for all three.

Participantnice to see stats. one thing stand out, total entrants and total entries isn’t a X times 3 equals thing.

ParticipantI will want to post images of them if so, but then–how do you post an image of a fantasically mounted/printed picture and capture the reason why it is so? So…probably won’t. But I’ll at least mention it.
do it. we won’t get anywhere near the full effect but we’ll see the image and perhaps some of why the printing medium works. my sister sends me photos of photos all the time. stuff she has shown or is showing. may lack the impact but it’s nice to see what she likes and is doing.

Participantthere are roughly 90,000 folks in city and surrounding area. and only 250,000 in the parish so camera stores have reduced to one. and it’s a half hour away. new orleans has a dozen or so but that means 45 minutes to an hour and often fighting with parking. net result is buying online. all the stuff for the D3000 beside the body and kit lens (two lenses, extra battery, wireless remote, extra SD cards, ext tube set, etc) came from NY camera shops. some via amazon.
but all that was bought new except for the 18-105mm which was factory refurbished. i do miss not being able to browse the used stuff. we used to have (mid ’80s) several camera shops and i did find some good used bodies and lenses.
glad everything work out for you rav.

ParticipantIt also showed up fairly often when I was PSing semi-regularly in 2003-ish.
seems like those images are lost in time. i only found one or two. 🙁

ParticipantI’m completely OK with the one-time use limit. What’s always rubbed me the wrong way with this is that some folks (and no disrespect intended ’cause you are totally within the rules) will use a virtually identical shot and can say“Well this one was 155.jpg and that one was 156.jpg taken .05 seconds apart.” Or have very, very similar snaps from the same shooting session, and then use them in 3-4 different contests that all pull off top-3 finishes. That’s frustrating to me.
I could certainly back the top-10s only retired proposal. I don’t see any harm in it. There’s also a thick line between the OP scenario of forgetting what you have used after 5 years, and only having one top 10 ever and trying to milk it for 5 different contests. Bah well… that’s my .02
the part in bold is how you get around the scarlet R trap.
while i agree in principal i have been known to use shots from the same session. not so much because they are guaranteed winners but because they fit multiple themes. and as many have said “man i should have saved that for ____” and that does happen to us all.
of course in my case my one wining photo was from a series of the katrina destroyed bridge at bay st louis. that series has netted me that 1st, a 2nd, an 18th, a 26th, a 33rd and a 65th. so while the photos have been useful they sure aren’t guaranteed winners.

ParticipantEls, I have you at 249 contests, 665 entries, and 11982 votes prior to this contest. So, your 666th entry was actually…
Cue spooky music…
your baby photo. 😯 Rosemary’s Baby?
😆 funny! Of course that one’s pretty much tanking, so I guess it was cursed from the get-go 😆
your definition of tanking and mine don’t agree 🙂 your “tanking” entry is currently 4 votes and 35 places ahead of my two best. OTOH mine are doing about what i expected so there’s that.
there is indeed some true vote whoring worthy entries.

ParticipantYou really can’t go wrong with kittens, and good choice of a box. +1 😀
thanks. that’s the Intel Pocket PC camera (and web cam) and was my first digital camera. what you see there was straight out of the camera, at 640 x 480 and plastic lens goodness.
