i now have 3 and never used my original idea. two use the original items but while looking for their “pond” i found three other thing to make a group of. so once again the voters have a chance to tell me i failed 🙂

    I vote no text

what? how can i explain the subtleties of my art to the photographically challenged voters otherwise.

seriously, i could go for some “wish you were here” or “visit exciting ____” but can do w/o as well. IMO text could add humor but lord knows that gets into vote whoring.

This was the most challenging photo shoot I’ve ever done. I had to shoot outside in bright sun then inside the subway station and trains without a flash.

did you reset the ISO and/or WB for each location?

as the official photographer you couldn’t take your pants off so did that cramp your style?

loved everyone bundled up in 20 layers and pantless.

you/we are taught to start with the obvious and work toward the complex. but like computer repairs sometimes that’s easier said than done. i do repairs at home because of the being proud of the results part. plus i’m cheap. or poor. or both. although at home it’s often not cost effective if my work labor rate is factored in. also i’m old and simply hate the throw it away and get a new one mentality.

and boy do i love google. no more hours at the library in the reference aisles.

and for what it’s worth i’m proud of you too 🙂

A ferrite toroid is basically just an iron donut. It’s sometimes used for noise suppression on cables (it’s that big lump you see on the ends) and is also used in inductors.

In the picture on that page, it’s the black donut-shaped thing with the blue-and-white wires wrapped around it on the bottom left of the board.

thanks. i knew it was iron something due to the ferrite part but electronics aren’t my strong suit. want your house or business wired, fine. want your electronics fixed, not so much. had to replace a potentiometer on a machine at work a while back. figuring out where in the display circuit the problem was required both the seller’s rep and the factory rep. once i knew where the problem was i got a new one online and installed it. fortunately for me most of the machines i work on have mechanical problems not electronic. if it’s electronic i can usually get to the general area where the problem is and find someone to confirm that and walk me through the repair.

of course if i had been smarter years ago i’d be home instead of still working two days a week.

Or, combine your love of lethal voltage and music and build your own plasma speaker.

from your link: A GDT is simple to make, all you do is take a bundle of 3 wires and wrap them around a ferrite toroid.

having no idea what a ferrite toroid is leaves me out.

U-Man electricity is only scary because you can’t see it. a little common sense and good work habits and working with it is fine.

i didn’t respond because my site gets almost no visitors. your post was interesting to read however but only in a general “oh that’s how that works” way. not in a “i should post and follow up on this” way.

    🙂

i cleared a weeks worth of cookies but nada. maybe i’ll just clear everything and see waht happens.

well clearing all cookies and cache fixed it.

oh and that “waht” up there was a typo. sure glad we have preview here. 🙂

I’ve noticed that over the past week or so, I hit “Submit” and the little wheel spins and spins before I eventually get a “connection timed out.” Click “back” once, hit “Submit” again, and it works in a blink.

    It’s not every time, though.

i get quick previews and then some long submits. not always and no particular time of day or other folks logged it. never has timed out though.

my login time still doesn’t work right. if i write a long post often when i click submit my login comes up. click that, back up and re preview then submit. this has been happening since i joined. others stay logged in for days.

    i got over it.

since i ask you this the other day it has continued. including just now in/on the gallery section and harpo‘s question. but it is just this computer. my backup box clears the new posts like they’re supposed to be.

pricing is what the market will bear. you know better than us.

size — my sister, who is on the board of a gallery in socal, told me over christmas that big borders were in. so an 8×10 matted into an 11×14 frame would work. keep in mind both the viewing distance at your show and where the buyers will display it.

framed– yes definitely. in my experience (limited as it is) buyers want a piece they can take home and hang. it is the rare buyer who has the perfect frame at home and needs a picture for it. or wants to hunt for that frame.

i’m going to go against the grain here and say just the one print. signed. unless you really expect some demand for additional prints in which case maybe ten. again signed. unique art has more value.

    and congrats on the showing.

    …but I think I’ve stumbled upon a ‘win’ idea.

You know, I’m retracting that statement. Subtlety, as I recall, does not bode well for votes in farktography. I’ll still do it, for I likes it, but I won’t pin my hopes upon it.

if you can’t hit them right between the eyes, in a 640 pixel width, then no votes for you. at least in my experience.

and dollar stores rule for props.

or is that props to the dollar stores?
