I was came across this and thought of this contest.

it’s sort of color popping naturally….sort of.

    yeah right 🙂

your Toronto_63 is much much closer. i’d even overlook that bit of blue in the background.

Actually the whole vote whoring this is less of a photoshop contest and more of a pissing contest between a few shoppers. One of the things I like most about Farktographers is we all more or less like and support one another while photoshoppers tend to lie in wait with high powered weapons for one another. 8)

for one thing it’s a smaller group. and in general more leeway is allowed. i can’t think of any purists here.

And I sensed hostility in some recent PS contests. I don’t even wanna know what it’s like behind the scenes there.

actually it’s not that bad in the PSAEF.

outside the PSAEF however …. i can’t recall anyone here mentioning that they got death threat email for their entries. more than one photoshopper has had to change their email due to abuse by folks viewing the contests.

what it boils down to is some folks taking the photoshop contests way to seriously.

Maybe change it to “Suggested: each entry should have a different type of weather” that way most will read it as a requirement but if people aren’t feeling frisky they can post the same type more than once.

it’s neither a sin nor a crime to miss a contest* nor not have three entries. the idea(l) for these contests is to make folks expand their photography horizons. (and have fun.)

hoyas have a long and IMO good reputation.

and i agree with caradoc on this: “And anyone shooting digital should have a circular polarizer in their bag – they’re incredibly nice to have around when shooting things like rainbows, or sparkles on snow.” but i would expand it to film also. however i don’t have one that fits my current camera.

You don’t have to crop it differently, you can just resize the entire image so that the width is 640 pixels wide.

and use the “click for bigger” thingy. i don’t use that but let mine stand or fall at 640 wide. more often than not it’s fall though.

nothing in the archives for tonight and no imagination preceding that for a new shot. would rather sit this one out than have another 2 or 3 votes per entry night.

i’ll suggest she upgrade but won’t be surprised if nothing happens. she’s one of those turn it on and use it but don’t add anything folks. which is sad and unusual since the folks in her photo exchange group are always adding features. maybe she can get one of them to do the upgrade.

Another option to consider is to download and install ufraw, which is free and reads a wide variety of raw camera formats. With it you can read the raw files and save them a JPEG, or even better PNG, format.

i did that to use with the Gimp since PS7 just laughs at NEF files. my sister can use the jpeg files and doesn’t really need the RAW/NEF.

today i remade her DVD as a single layer disc with jpegs only and it plays in three of my other computers so it should (fingers crossed) play in her iMAC.

thanks but 1) she isn’t interested in downloading anything since she can use the jpegs for what she needs. 2) adobe doesn’t seem interested in adding new camera support to older versions.

from the reading i’ve done since posting the question it may be that the NEF plugin for CS4 doesn’t support the D3000 but does support the D80. no idea if that’s true since i have squat for knowledge about why nikon As NEF is/would be different from nikon Bs NEF. from reading a bunch of stuff on adobe’s site it seems they have to add compatibility for each new camera.

she was going to bring the D80 for this visit but decided not to. made doing side by side comparisons difficult 🙂

my neighbors, as expected, went nuts at midnight. halfway through enjoying it i realized i could use the aerial burst for the upcoming contest but it was too late to get the camera out.

    Happy New Year to all.

no drinking and the neighbors have enough fireworks for a small army so i will just enjoy theirs.

what sleeping said. my sister said dirty mirror when i told her about it earlier today.

from your photos it certainly looked like your uncle took care of it. nice outfit and complete which sure counts for a lot with older equipment.

I have no idea if it works, and from looking through it, it needs a good cleaning.

I have photos and I’ll post them later.

i’d be interested in seeing the photos but that first sentence concerns me. i read that as the lens(es) being dirty, not the body. if that’s the case the cleaning costs could add up significantly. to the point of not being worth it at any price.

OTOH at a good price (lord knows what that is) the whole kit sounds like a good find if you are interested in medium format film shooting. personally i prefer 6×6 but my sister has a mamiya 645 and loves it. she used it for aerial photography and had great results with it.

I upload my 2010 portfolio to Blurb. The whole book is set to preview so if you’re bored flip through it.

    http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/1885540

This isn’t so much a pitch to buy the book as a chance to show it off for free. If you’ve got money you’re planning on throwing away anyway and bought a copy, well that’s up to you! 🙂

while i’m going to pass on your book it’s pretty good.

i am going to look into doing that. thanks for sharing.

Santa didn’t bring me nothin’! I, however, bought my 50D last night. Ho. Ho. Ho.

my new camera kit lens was an 18-55mm and i’d added a 55-300mm but wasn’t happy with the 55mm change point. so i bought myself an 18-105mm refurbished nikon lens and find it much more useful. that was my self gift.

While I got a few gifts, the only photo-related stuff was a magazine. Of course, my gift to me was my make-shift tilt lens, and though it didn’t impress anyone here, I still think it’s nifty, and plan to use it in next week’s contest, IAGAP.

i think your tilt shift is neat (and that you made it also) but i’m not a fan of the effect.

i was going to submit photos to a judged show recently but was told by a board member that my stuff was “traditional” and the judge was going for abstract. different strokes for different folks.
