I know I’m not using nearly enough of the features, but I’m having a blast.

    I hope you do too.

please excuse the slow response. yes, i am having fun with mine, fold out screen and all. have shot a bit of video just to see what it looks like and it’s pretty darned good.

i got mine because 1) i hadn’t bought a new gadget in a while 2) it has more MP and is therefore better 3) the swing out screen 4) my existing lenses fit 5) i should be able to sell the D3000 kit w/o taking a big loss.

i’m still not sold on the autofocus of either the D3000 or D5100 at a 100 yards or more. i want razor sharp photos of birds in flight by just aiming in their area and pressing the shutter. and DAMMIT it’s not happening. just because the bird is only <5% of the image area there is no reason for it not to be critically sharp and look great when blown up 400%.

    right?

could i use dead leaves for this contest? long dead, the brown woody ones?

took some shots earlier today (not leaves) and a couple might work.

i have two monitors each of which has it’s own color balance, contrast, brightness, etc and it drives me nuts trying to figure out what to do with a photo given i have no control over my stuff let alone yours.

“Nikon’s little entry-level DSLR, the D5100, comes in just above the vaunted (but outgoing) Canon 5D Mark II …..”

makes me feel better about getting one. i couldn’t afford the D7000 and my D3000 while still fairly new lacks the D5100s features.

by just trading up within nikon i can use the 18-105 and the 55-300 lenses plus the ext tubes i already have. all i had to buy besides the body was an extra battery.

a friend gave me a bell and howell key chain camera http://ak1.ostkcdn.com/images/products/L952850.jpg a few Christmases ago. 320×288 images. with enough sunlight it was ok but man …. i have at least three workable images so may not dig out the camera and load the software for this contest.

btw this is NOT a good car camera. any pictures of the space aliens you might get will be way too small. even for world net daily or the national enquirer.

odd how folks who can’t defend their positions be it art, religion or politics all fall back on demeaning their critics in some fashion. and staplermofo your guy calls the art world on it.

that is the biggest pile of steaming horse shit it has been my displease to read in a long time. i like to think modern artists could make a good living with their work and some can get popular and make a bunch of money. but when you have a really unexceptional snapshot of a tricycle being lauded as breakthrough art because it is in color ???????? i probably missed the whole point of the article but not being a pretentious asshole i have trouble reading between the lines here and seeing the “great art”.

oh and that green thing is ugly as sin boring. whatever the “artist” did digitally didn’t work. oh wait it was supposed to make it uniform. so sad it ended up boring.

i had every intention of entering tonight … but … legos are expensive and all i have is one builder figure. but i had some ideas to work around that. then RL intruded with other plans for my time. i really need to just shoot when the muse strikes.

If you really want this shit to stop, you gotta get the rules written so that your congresscrooks have to suffer the same indignities, degradation, intrusions and abuse as the rest of us. When that happens, the rules will finally begin to resemble common sense, if only because the crooks in congress want to be treated well… they feel entitled.

find a way to do that and statues will be raised in your honor. while you’re at it how about the pension and healthcare stuff too.

i have one of those and i’m offended. hell i’d be offended even if i didn’t have one.

the closing comment about the pencil reminds me that you can stab a persons brains pretty easily with a pencil. it’s one of the oldest spy tricks in the book.

yeah yeah it’s theater not security but for pete’s sake at least try to be consistent.

thanks sleeping. what a great find. i’d like to know how the film was loaded. i’m thinking the standard one per side 4 x 5 film holders but in that case you really had to be quick to make the preset focus part pay off.

the pixel size of these images is ridiculous. according to the booklet 4928 x 3264 = 16.4 x 11.4 print. now my (sort of new to me gift from my sister) Epson Stylus 2200 is supposed to print 13 x 19 so maybe all those pixels will come in handy.

of course i got Sam’s to print me a 20 x 30 from a 3008 x 2000 pixel 5MB file so image size may not play a big part here.
