I don’t know about that entirely, ennui. I think it’ll just allow the photogs who are artists to concentrate more on the art and less on the technical side. A photo can be perfectly lit and focused and still be just a snapshot if it doesn’t convey any emotion or tell a story (I should know, I take a lot of snapshots :)).

It was more snark than genuine feelings. I would use this feature, I have problems with camera shake and it would nice to recover a few shots that were good except that litttttlllleeee ghosting from camera shake.

Pretty soon we won’t even need photographers.

I’m trying really hard not to make an aesthetic judgement, because, hey, different strokes move the world. It’s just as staplermofo says, the shots look like snapshot at last call. It just seems incongruous that most people who take up photography in a serious manner spend their lives working to reach past that while this fellow revels in it.

Part of the art is make staged look spontaneous, making the artificially created look totally natural. I don’t necessarily think every shot should look as crisp and clear as if it came off the studio, but when pros make this kind of work, particularly this kind of work of a subject that reaches a particular audience it implies to a certain subset of people that bad is the standard. Why try to learn anything when this guy is making money and meeting famous people and his shots could pass for something rolled out of a cardboard Kodak.

I know from both writing and photography that to successfully break the rules you need to master the rules. When a photographer steps out of convention after learning those conventions is shows in their work, there are elements of style and composition that says this person UNDERSTANDS the fundamentals. I didn’t see that in Shields work.

I know that Tyler Shields could gives nay damn about what I think, so I am not going to worry about this overly much. My personal opinion is, however, these are crap.

It appears I have a thing tonight, can anyone do an OBO? I will email or PM the pertinents! TYIA

Unless someone can guarantee they’ll be able to do it before 8:30, I’ll be more than happy to do it.

(I’ll likely be on time, but I’m teaching college, and class is scheduled to end at 9… we don’t always get out early… I will definitely be doing mine before I leave, as I did last week, but if placement is important to you, I can’t guarantee).

That’s fine, thanks! I just wanted to get it in before midnight. I will PM you the deets.

    Gracias!

This is happening 4 days before it goes live, the idea of literally dancing on people’s graves makes me happy. I’ve shot a lot of stuff at Green Wood

It really is all about the fun. I don’t think the ‘rest of us’ have a chance at 1,2, or 3 either, with aspidites portfolio. 🙄

I am sitting on two damn good shots with which I intend to give aspidites a hard run! 😛

I have had the 70-200 the longest and it is the lens I almost always start out with on the camera. The thing is extremely sharp. It is the lens I took the eagle pics with. A friend has the new version and the pictures with that one are sharper than my 500.

I love this lens, I would marry it and have it’s babies if nature and the State of New York would allow it. I carry this and my Sigma 24-70 with me all the time. I would love to trade up to the Canon 24-70L, but I choke on the price.

I’m aware this is pushing it, but what about stuffed animals? Not of horses, dogs, cats, etc, but of moose, caribou, frogs? Please? The wildlife here has pretty much gone missing, or it only comes out at night when I’m asleep, so either way I’m not seeing a whole crapton of turkeys going through our yard.

The way the description is written it does not say if the animals are real or stuffed.

So, I have a shot of a former neighbor kid, about 5 yrs old, talking to me from his bedroom window, forlorn as he tells me about moving because his parents are divorcing.

What’s the ethics/legality of posting that? Will voters like a depressing photo?

Legally, if you were on public space, you’re clear. If you were on private property, it is hazy, but probably still OK. The real legal liabilities of using a photo like that without a signed release only come into play if you are using the photo for a commercial purpose. Farktography isn’t a commercial purpose, it falls within the art/editorial use.

Ethically, well, that is kind of relative. Personally, I don’t see a problem, I would probably use it. So long as the child’s name and location are reasonably protected, I would go for it. If I were divorced with kids, I might feel different about it.

As to the voters…no one knows what the hell is up with THOSE people!
