Interesting. I was reading a different article where the “big two” are experimenting with various optical fluids to sandwhich between lenses to reduce the overall amount of glass needed, and therfore reducing overall cost.

It will take a LOT to convince me that it will not reduce quality at the same time.

I bought a bulk loader on Ebay for one dollar last week, it was the last thing I purchased (other than a brick of Ilford B&W for a song). I am going with new cassettes, just because they wear out and are cheap to replace.

so you’re saying that i might have to pay someone to take this stuff?

i had hoped there would be more interest but at this rate i may resort to … well i don’t know yet. it sure isn’t going back into the attic.

I would list it Craigslist* as free to anyone willing to come get it, or try to make a few bucks selling it on ebay.

*assuming you are in a locating where Craigslist serves, failing that I would check with the local community college to see if they have a Photo class and pass it along to the Prof to pass along to the students.

Awesome stuff! I like this one. The clouding seems to add something to the photo.

The clouding (I think it came from a wrinkle on the reel) does make it “ghostly”, it works well given the theme of the photo. It is the reason I kept it when I chucked others with developing defects.

I scanned the film in the auto mode on my scanner which defaults to a color scan rather than greyscale. Most of the shots I switched to grayscale in Lightroom rather than keep the faint hue of the color scan like this one:

The effect is almost a sepia tone which I am not sure I like. I think I should monitor my water temp a bit better and maybe a minute longer in the Fixer.

Sure, the week after I finish buying all the (developing) stuff you give it away! 😀

i wasn’t sure from the list you had if that was all you needed for developing film. also if you haven’t looked at the photos there is a bulk film loader and some cassettes. maybe 10 of them. i found 7 empty bulk film cans so i must have been into it at one time. it is a money saver.

If I did not live in an NYC apartment I would take it off your hands, but I am pretty sure my landlord would not appreciate me ripping out walls and installing a darkroom. Not to mention my roommates.

I’d actually considered asking if you PS’ers would be interested in something like that since the contest pages are identical and it wouldn’t be a lot more work to differentiate the two types.

I am interested, but I should let you know that I’m pretty early in development. Right now, I’ve mostly just got the monitoring/parsing component. As I’m only able to work on it in my “free” time, it’ll likely be close to the end of the year before I’m ready for public release with full reporting, so if the PS’ers can wait that long, I can probably help you out. Let me know if you’re still interested so I can be thinking along those lines while developing. If so, feel free to suggest any particular stats or features you’d like to see.

I think I’m OK on hosting, at least for now. I’ve got a GoDaddy unlimited account that’s held up OK so far. I’m a Microsoft developer and so have to have an IIS with ASP.NET host (nothing against Linux, but my expertise is in MS and it’s been pretty good to me so far).

Hey, take your time, the last person who decided they wanted to tackle it jumped right in and sank in the waves. I am going to post note in the Photoshop Audio Edit Forum:
    http://www.fark.com/cgi/comments.pl?IDLink=6#new
asking what people are interested in check there later on today. Pop around, they’re are almost as friendly as Farktographers, though a little more competitive 🙂

There are zero votes until the contest goes live.

Actually I’m pretty sure it’s possible to vote in the period between the thread being posted and it going green, but usually there aren’t many.

If I understand correctly, VE threads that go Green reset the totals to zero upon going Green. I heard that once in the PSAEF, but I could be imaging the whole episode.

CauseISaidSo: Your stat tracker intrigues me because the Photoshoppers are kind of desperate for a stat tracker slash/monitor for photoshop contest. We’ve lost all of our ability to track our stuff since the Mr. Squirrels went down this year. I even know a place that I think could host the tracker if it is something you would be interested in pursuing. If this is relevant to your interests, let me know.

Take your mind off the hook, seek out different angles and perspectives, see the obscure, see the commonplace in a different way. Take a risk, it is only ones and zeros. Don’t be afraid to look stupid, hanging upside down trying to get a shot. Leave early, go out late. Shoot at night, shoot at noon, shoot until your finger hurts and then shoot some more. Shoot close, shoot far, go out of focus, twirl your camera above your head. Shoot every day, then take a few days off. This is fun, let it be.

Hmm, if only you had some really old things around your house that are outdate yet still used…perhaps something modified or even kludged together…perhaps with a soda can… 8)

I love playing with HDR but it was easy to select my shots for this contest without even thinking about my HDR. The real question is whether or not the voting public defines an artistic shot the way I define an artistic shot…

Therein lies the rub. What is art? (Let me find my turtleneck and beret, pack a bowl and put on small dark glasses.) While photography is art, not all photography is art. I take a lot of stuff that accurately depicts the reality I perceive, I tend to think of “art” as an interpretation of filtered through my conscious world view. Sometimes that is how I perceived something, sometimes it how I present what I perceived. Thus my question about HDR, it wasn’t about playing with something cool (even though it is cool and fun to play with) but about how I use that tool to create an artistic vision of the reality I’ve photographed. (smokes) Whoa! That was, like, deep, man.

I hate to be a killjoy, but I really dislike HDR. I see it as too gimmicky and overdone to death.

I respect that. I even agree with it! See, this is why we can’t have nice things! There is a lot of crappy HDR out there giving the form a bad rep.

Aww, man, I guess I’ll break the seal on this question: What about HDR’s this week?

I ask because most of my “artistic shots” are done in HDR.

Only if you’re a mushroom cloud layin’ mothafucka, mothafucka. Or supafly TNT. Or the guns of the Navarone.

But NOT Force 10 from Navarone, cuz that movie sucked, even with Harrison Ford shooting first in it.

It’s objective reality. While the lab tests may hold true that the images are demonstrably better at high megapixel and full frame cameras, will you actually see the difference? Probably not. The gear you mention is not the cheap kit lens that Canon puts out today, but older better built gear. (My opinion only, I’ve shot on both but never at full frame high megpix.) At some point in time, if you can afford it, go for the L glass, but it sounds like you’ve solid gear now.
