ParticipantI actually have an idea, and a general shooting plan, now I need to find time to do it. Also, does anyone have any idea how to go about affixing a round piece of fruit to a cross?
/yes, I am actually serious.
Drill a LOOOOONG screw through the back of the cross and screw the fruit onto the pointy end
Or super glue and a few hours?

ParticipantHave we officially banned sports venues?
Everything except Notre Dame Stadium. ‘Cuz, ya know, Touchdown Jesus.

ParticipantOkay, it’s still *super* early in submissions, but when I vote tomorrow, I already know my finger is going to be dead. Farktographers pulled out ALL the stops for this theme – I see SO many awesome shots already, so I can’t wait to see what this one will look like when it’s all over.
Rav – how did you get the focused lighting on Some Drinking Guy? Is that just coming from the lamp, and the rest happened to be dark, or did you focus it somehow?

ParticipantAll this talk about festivals and such reminded me that I had a few that could actually qualify for this one. I was the “official” photographer (meaning I had the biggest camera and volunteered) for a BBQ festival, but they were all strangers and for all they knew I was just some dude walking around taking pictures.
Plus it was a pissy day at work and I needed an excuse to do something else. 😉
Farktographer, I actually like that last ‘B’ of the guy best (The Market).
A few early bees for those into BBQ competitions. Thought seriously about using the first B instead of the last A.
That first alternate…looks like he’s getting ready to cut himself a nice prime hand steak.
I liked that B, too, but I was torn between colour and sepia on different sides of the face. That guy was actually pretty photogenic, let me take shots for like 10 minutes, heh.

Participantfarktographer I like #1 of the two better, YMMV.
This is the first contest in a while where I’m hopeful I might do decently. But you never know with the voters.
Thanks for the input – I was leaning towards that one, but wanted a little variety in my three sub’s and that was the only face-on headshot I took that turned out decently.
I’m hoping 2 of my photos do well…a little iffy on the third, but like you said, we never know with these voters.

ParticipantI like the magic bejeweled glove idea better, so I’m sticking with that in my head.

ParticipantI’ve been putting off developing rolls in Manchester, since all the places are a hassle. Oh well, time to swallow my pride and realise I’ll never teach myself how to develop within time, heh.

ParticipantFINALLY! Haha, I took shots for this about 5 months ago, since I knew I’d be leaving all my legos behind in the states 😉

ParticipantI actually ended up going out yesterday for some last-minute shots to see what I could get. Liked them more than the stuff I had going in beforehand. Some early B’s:

ParticipantIf you go to page 1, you’ll see all the currently hoppered items – that list is updated frequently. As far as the immediately upcoming themes…I don’t know what system the powers that be have in selecting them, but I think they are shuffled in a giant magic hat and pulled out with a bejeweled glove. No idea what’s coming up ’til it’s listed on the “upcoming events” in the “this week’s contest” thread.

ParticipantGood job, ‘cuda. I’ve had my fruit sitting waiting for me since Saturday, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet…

ParticipantJust to clarify and avoid embarrassing myself, is the requirement for this theme that we talk to strangers and ask them to take a photo up close? Or just to take photos of strangers up close? I’ve got shots from street festivals, protests, etc… but I generally didn’t wind up talking to the people in the photos.
It’s a personal choice – I like to explain to most of the people that I’m doing it for a photo project, and if I get a good shot I’m willing to exchange e-mails so I can send them the edited photo after. If I just happen to capture someone in passing though, I won’t bother approaching them. It’s not necessary, but it’s nice.
/Also, found out yesterday that UK laws allow me to take photos of complete strangers and give me rights to publish them and even make money off them without a model release. WTF? I mean, nice for me as a photographer, but that sort of sucks for everyone else (not that I’m going to be selling these photos anytime soon).

Participant2 and 5 are sort of in-line with what I was thinking – moreso 2

ParticipantI didn’t have much difficulty with this one. I just went to the grand opening of the bar, said I was taking pictures of the event, and people posed–sometimes a lot of posing. Alcohol is a social lubricant! Whether they’ll get any votes or not I can’t say–the photographer was drinking also…
Some of my photos I’m thinking of submitting were definitely influenced by booze – on both sides of the camera.

ParticipantPeople have posted extra photos in the past without allowing voting and it hasn’t been an issue, so I don’t think it’d be a big problem here.
