ParticipantSooo…… I’m going to go ahead and assume a field used as parking for things like state fairs, flea markets, etc are kosher, but what about a field where farmers park their old cars to die?
Edit to add: This isn’t the one I’m considering, but it’s very similar. Lots of cars, but nowhere near junkyard level.

Car Park (Hipstamatic) by Davidap2009, on FlickrLet’s go with the Wikipedia definition on this one. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parking_lot
“A parking lot (Commonwealth English: car park), also known as car lot, is a cleared area that is intended for parking vehicles. Usually, the term refers to a dedicated area that has been provided with a durable or semi-durable surface.”
With that in mind, I’d think an empty parking garage fits the definition more than an old field where people tend to abandon cars. Love the shot, but I’m struggling with whether or not it feels “right” in the theme. Anyone else have a say? I’m willing to lighten up the reigns, but I don’t want it to fall apart into people taking photos of their garage or something.

ParticipantWhen I first got here, I made the mistake of asking people if they enjoyed Irish Car Bombs (Guinness + Bailey’s + Jameson = awesome). They…um… don’t take too kindly to that sort of talk in Manchester. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1996_Manchester_bombing Didn’t know that ahead of time. Oops.
Since then, I have ordered Irish Car Bombs in the bars, but I always have to order each ingredient individually.
You didn’t actually DO that did you?!?!
I’ve never trod on the shores of Eire and have only briefly spent time in Merry Ole, but the one thing I learned is NEVER order American drinks anywhere but in the USA!😯
I’ve never ordered them in a bar, but I *did* ask a couple of local Mancs if they liked Irish Car Bombs before going out my first night of drinking. Whoops. Learned real fast after that. “I’ll have a half a pint of Guinness, and a shot of Baileys topped with Jameson on the side. Cheers.”

ParticipantInteresting. I think that’s about the same time that I voted, but I swear it wasn’t me. I’m sure your data could probably identify involved parties, both gaining and losing, but I’d rather not know names at this point. Just another reason to go back to the old ways before we become farkbook.
CISS, I initially missed your message to which orionid refers. I don’t want to know either – but if the data over the several themes point to a single person upvoting at the general time that others are getting down voted perhaps a Private Message to that person would help. I don’t think you can absolutely prove anything. And I’m not asking you to be a cop, but a “here are the facts I have noticed” type message might help.
Also, is there any indicator for how I have voted that I can see. I mean, let’s say I really like a pic and vote for it and then I came back a couple days later and still really like it but can’t remember if I voted for it or not. If I click “Best”, I am actually inadvertently removing my vote.
When you vote, it should end up being highlighted as “Best” or “Funniest” to my understanding, so if you clicked it again it’d be un-highlighted.

ParticipantIs it an attempt by someone(s) to manipulate the contests? Is it a glitch on Fark’s side? Is it just an absent minded voter who forgot they already voted and isn’t paying attention to that fact that they’re now unvoting instead of voting again? Who knows.
I’m hoping it’s a glitch, or someone absentminded. When I think of cutthroat competitions, Farktography definitely isn’t the place. Not like there’s even a prize on the line here. Just people sharing images and having a good time.

ParticipantMy understanding was either inside or outside. Yugo?
Either. The only restriction is that it’s got to be a building dedicated to some belief system.
So, any building with Guinness on tap would by, definition, meet this theme? I say this because I believe in only two things: Guinness make everything better and Jameson whiskey makes Guinness better.
Ahhhhhmmennnnnn

ParticipantI smelled gingerbread and heard ads for optics. Now I’m in a deep hole. I am so very thirsty. Someone please help me.

ParticipantYou forgot beer, we got a bunch of that too.
True. But that kinda goes without saying.
When did it become acceptable to do anything remotely related to Fark and not have a BAC of at least .04?

ParticipantYeah, I was definitely hoping for a human-based contest, but I suppose I didn’t *exactly* specify that, so meh, we’ll let the voters choose. The one with the dog wasn’t what I was expecting either, but it’s blasting everyone out of the water in votes, so seems people like it.

ParticipantI wouldn’t mind this being pushed back. It’s okay if it stays how it is, but given more time means I have more chances to cook up something photogenic without archive diving too much.

ParticipantI think this was meant to be actual lo-fi shooting, even if it’s using a disposable camera’s lens on a digital camera. Or a pinhole, which wouldn’t be difficult to rig for any camera.
Well, maybe it won’t be difficult for you tinkerers, but the first thing I looked at about how to make a pinhole lens said you could use a body cap, but need a drill. Sharp, motorized devices and I do not get along. 😆
Nor would I have any idea how to take a lens off a disposable and put it on my camera. Is this stuff that everyone knows how to do but me? 😳
No clue, either. I suppose just buying a disposable camera and tearing it to pieces then taping the lens to my camera won’t quite get the effect I’m looking for. A holga is a cheap investment – I got mine for $6.

ParticipantIn the hopper we decided that all parking garages are also in, and it doesn’t matter whether the lots have cars in them or not. So inside or outside, that’s fine.

ParticipantMuahahaha, time to go raid the parent’s attic for my lego stash.
Pretty sure my mom got rid of all mine 20+ years ago. Luckily I have been getting some small sets since I started Farktography.
My mom had mine in my old closet for a good 15 years. Now they’re in my brother’s garage waiting for my niece to turn old enough. Legos never go bad 😛
I bought some Star Wars legos that would photograph well, but they got left behind in the States… 😥
