ParticipantMy brother and sis-in-law take my nieces to a wonderful photographer in San Diego. I really love her photos and style – it’s the type of portraiture I wish I could do with my nieces. My sis-in-law told me that when they’re really little, one of the tricks is that the photographer turns the heat up in her house really really high (like 90) and the baby becomes really malleable. You can position them into all sorts of really cute poses and they stay that way, fully happy. A little tip in case you decide to give it another go.

ParticipantThanks for the share – I enjoyed watching that.

ParticipantA Fark.com “Associate Photographer” badge would be pretty awesome 😉 Now we need some release forms and we’re good to go.

ParticipantUghhh…I’m going to be driving to LA during the draft. Hope my auto-pick doesn’t screw me over. Hard to predict when the players will be gone.

ParticipantOkay, so we’re sticking to people-only pathways, and shadows are okay so long as it’s clear that the subject is the open path, not the shadow. Rav, yours is cutting it close but I think that’s about as big as you can get without it becoming mainly about shadow.
Yoyo – stairs are great and fit the theme.

ParticipantQueen – dunno about that one; technically I guess it could be used, but the idea of removing the vehicle from its location would make it seem more like there should be no lifts on the wire, rather than no people on the lifts (it’d be like if there was an empty train on a track; wouldn’t fit the theme)
Rav – I still think shadow shots would be okay so long as it’s not overbearing. I love that shot, and think it could be an awesome entry.
U-man – The wording specified people, but it’s because I didn’t even think of shots like this. I like the idea of animal paths being included, but I’ll leave this open to people below…should we allow this and change the wording of the theme (or is it too late being only 24 hours away?), or do we even need to change the wording of the theme to allow it? Personally, I think it’s valid for entry but fear a last-minute change like that might upset people…

ParticipantTry to keep it as abandoned as possible. If you have a few cars on the side, that’s fine with me, but I think it doesn’t fit the theme as well so the voters might not go for it.

ParticipantDamn this beautiful San Diego weather! Damn it to hell! Why can’t I get a hurricane over here for some fun? 😉
Did you get the sound trigger too, that sounds pretty neato for $50 more, even though I can’t think what I’d use it for off-hand. 😆
Wait, THAT’S how people capture those shots? It snaps the shutter as soon as it hears a sound, even if it’s a drop of water?

ParticipantMy boss has a nice macro lens he said I could borrow (too late for the competition, unfortunately) but I was temporarily tempted to borrow it indefinitely as I move out of the state 😆
Farktographer
ParticipantYeah, I thought so. Okay, thanks 🙂

ParticipantHAHAHA! Love it.

ParticipantI’m scrambling and archive-diving trying to find some macro shots. Sad I never got the macro lens to go with my DSLR, heh.
/Edit to say: Okay, I dove into my old food blog post (I’m afraid to go there…it’s back in the days pre-DSLR when I knew not a thing of photography) and grabbed some food photos I might use. I was also looking at my photos of legos, and I’m struggling to decide whether they’d be considered “macro” or not. My gut says that they’re not close up enough, even though they’re small to begin with. What say ye judges? Macro or no?

ParticipantThanks for the help, amigos!

ParticipantSo, say, sap on a metal disk would be fine but not on the tree. That sounds fair to me.

ParticipantAlso, I removed the “of any class” and added “no invertebrates” as discussed previously.
Not complaining, but wikipedia says you just knocked out 97% of all animal species 😆
