ParticipantIf you’re not sure what to do for this contest here’s a couple ideas that are pretty easy:
– selective desaturation (color popping unnaturally) or objects or colors
(copy the whole photo and paste in a layer on top of the original. Make this layer black and white. Erase wherever you want the color to show through)– built-in artistic filters or warping
(usually found in the edit or artistic menu, just play around with various settings)– adding vignettes/shadows/light flares
(usually found in borders or light settings)– fake tilt shift with http://www.tiltshiftmaker.com
– extreme desaturation, oversaturation, exposure, curve tweaking, etc.
– combining multiple exposures to create scenes that should not go together (something like a Magritte or Dali painting) kind of like this example. (this might not actually be legal for this contest)

ParticipantI think it’s always worth a play. You really never know what’s going to happen. My 3rd place entry this week was my “throw away” entry in my head when I was predicting how they might do this week. Other times I’ve had photos I thought were going to do really well in voting and ended up mediocre or poor. But I play to play the game and I do love that unbroken line (for the most part) of entries on my FSM.

ParticipantIt’s not too late. I’ll send it out to you this weekend when I’m able to use the computer with that info on it.

ParticipantI’m not using three pictures from the same place but I am using 3 pictures of highly iconic places that everyone should recognize without captions.
Originally I’d the idea that all three images would be things that would appear on the same travel brochure, but I’m not going to hold anyone to that, esp. as it’s nearly impossible to get three posts grouped together anyway to provide that context to the voters.

ParticipantWhere I work, someone who denied a refund or replacement without speaking to a supervisor first would get disciplined or perhaps even fired. Any business worth buying from should care more about customer satisfaction than $20. Except banks. For some reason people have never been able to force banks to behave the same way the retail & service industry does.

ParticipantHaving spent the last 12 years working retail I’m guessing you just dealt with the “weekend guy” who pretty much sucks but has been working for them so long/knows someone/has some sort of special expertise/hasn’t pissed the owner off enough yet to get fired.

ParticipantKyle-
Yes I got your files. I haven’t dropped all the large files into the .pdf yet as I still have some layout decisions to make and photos to drop from people who didn’t want to participate or we couldn’t track down.
Right now I’m waiting for Drews agent to find us a publisher. No idea on when that will happen but we’re working on it.

ParticipantI’m assuming you’re late guy right now

ParticipantWhile we’re still trending toward a new (recent) record, it’s not quite as big of an increase as you might think. We’re less than 100 votes over Weather at the same time last week
Still, I like the way things are trending–it’s exciting to see entries with over 50 votes less than 24 hours into the contest!!
Yeah I didn’t really think it was all that more if any, but maintaining this new level of higher vote totals is cool; especially since last week’s contest didn’t have all that many participants or photos – so everyone’s average in theory benefits because there’s more votes per picture.
Kestrana
ParticipantAh true. But, still funny
Edit” then you’d be at 669 OH YEAH
Kestrana
ParticipantCause can you post a link to the voting trend? I looked for it on your website but are the graphs not public or linked?

ParticipantWell I like snow but this is a record breaking snowfall year for Connecticut. They handle it pretty well, plow/salt wise. There’s just always stupid idiots out who need to stay home and whimper instead of driving 20 mph in the left lane on I-95 >:-(
