Even though I think I have a very different view of the ACLU from Orionid I have to agree with him that avoiding political type groups would probably be a good idea with how many people are involved with this.

International League of Conservation Photographers – I hadn’t heard of this group before but it seems like a good group and giving some of the proceeds to a photography group seems like a good idea for farktography. Also a photography group may be more likely to give the book a plug on their website?

Doctors without borders – Very good group, glad zenprowler thought of them.

Save the tatas – This book may mainly be sold to farkers and being able to add boobies to any plugs we make for the book on fark could pick up extra interest.(and let us use the almighty boobies tag)

I’d be willing to help with proofreading. Also do we still need essays from all of these areas or just some of them?

Alright, so I missed when this discussion started and am trying to catch up and make sure I understand everything thats going on and I keep going back and forth between this seems too much like hdr vs its similar to whats allowed and is more of just a different process of to the same end.

On the surface what SilverStag seems a lot like the pseudo-hdr images I remember people making in linux the first time we did an hdr contest when there weren’t many(any?) good hdr/tonemapping options for linux. In these pseudo hdr images you would take multiple exposures or change the exposure of a single raw image like an hdr image but instead of tonemapping you would open the exposures in different layers and play with opacity levels and erase portions from layers that aren’t exposed well so that you finish with just the properly exposed sections visible. While this is a different process from dodging and burning jpgs in photoshop as different layers and then combining them to just show the properly exposed area seems like its pretty similar in terms of the outcome and what was done to the original photo, which makes me think its awfully similar to hdr.

But on the flip side just burning and dodging portions of the photo on a single layer would be allowed even though the end result would be pretty much the same as burning on one layer, dodging on another and then combing the two. So I guess what I’m wondering is am I reasonably close to what you did or am I completely missing something?

Am I being a dork and missing where the upcoming contests are listed? I only see ‘Autumn’ next week and ‘The Song’ on 12/1.

Thats all that is scheduled right now but here’s a list of themes waiting to be scheduled and some of which will be included when the next batch of themes is scheduled.

Just change something in your description slightly and you should be fine to repost.

Sorry I’m crankypants with the gun jumping tonight. I have some sort of plague and feel like shit, so I don’t know how late I’ll be up tonight.

Thanks, that was easy to fix then.

Elsinore, will my first post that was deleted from beating the boobies completely go away(fark won’t let me repost it for being the same thing) or should I upload the shot to flickr a 2nd time to trick fark into thinking its different.

Cool shots, you and orionid are making me wish I had room or time for playing around in a darkroom again.

Yep. Shooting a roll of, say, slide film, then scanning in the negatives as black and white negatives, or shooting B&W film and scanning it in as colour film. It gets similar results to cross-processing.
To be honest, I have only done it once by accident, and I am not sure I would use the results. I just want to know if the possibility is there.

I would think thats fine. As for allowing anything in camera I would say in general anything you can’t do on film in camera and is not allowed to be done on computer is usually not allowed to be done in a digital camera.

Which reminds me, Elsinore, statue crack is okay, right?

I’d assume thats fine since it was ok for me to post a picture of a statue of a naked boy.

this is the studio setup i use. got it on sale for $25. it’s roughly 25% smaller than yours if my math is right. the blue background flips over and is gray on the back. bigger lights would help but those like yours may be too hot. one advantage is that it all folds down into it’s own carrying case. has two pockets for the lights.

I got one of those. To help with the lights not being that strong I got some eco-bulbs that draw fewer watts than they put out(or something like that) which allows you to use brighter bulbs in the same lamps.
