I’am a NYC Bridge and Tunnel Officer at the Queens Midtown Tunnel. The Bridges and Tunnels as well as entrance and exit (marginals) streets are NOT public property. They are owned and operated by the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority (TBTA) and are therefore private property!!! As far as the law goes there are laws, and signs to remind people of such laws, which prevent photos from being taken on TBTA property.Private property, unfortunately that means if you are standing on the property they can make you stop shooting. If you raise a stink you probably will be arrested and charged with trespassing.
This does not mean that you cannot stand on public land and photograph bridges or any other building or landmark. keep in mind though that some building images are copyrighted and you need a release to use the images for commercial purposes (Empire State, etc…)

ParticipantThe camera worked fine for me. http://www.flickr.com/photos/21629306@N00/sets/72157611426878241/
There was a learning curve with regards to loading, & the fact that I forgot the meter didn’t work, but once I mastered that it worked fine.
I think a Holga or Diana would be cool. (plus cheaper to ship around)
Lets do it. I’ll start a new thread.

ParticipantHey ya’all, just wanted to say thank you to everyone for the votes. It’s a pretty amazing feeling to see so many comments about the high quality of the entries in general and to then click over to the results thread and see two of my shots in the top three. I turned 26 today and that is definitely one of the best gifts I will receive. 🙂
Happy B day!
Your shots were great that why.

ParticipantI use Flikr. never really had any issues with them so far. Some of my older entries are on photobucket because I have a pro account there for my business.
I think that Flickr images resolve better on the web. I remember hearing they sharpen the images or something. Also the Flickr community of photographers is pretty cool.Plus it’s neat to network with other photographers, either local or worldwide.nobigdeal

Participantwell for tonight i’m going to have to rely on desaturate. turns out my latest camera won’t do B/W 🙁
and yes, i’ve had the camera for 3 years and am just finding that out.
Usually you are better off converting from color. Why throw away all the information contained in the color image?
you’re talking to a guy who broke his photography teeth on Tri-X. and then spent a couple of years in a (mostly) B/W darkroom.
i don’t think in digital. to me a B/W setting on the camera means it captures gray scale like film, not that some software in the camera does a conversion.
yeah i should know better and when i really stop and think about it .. ok, we found the problem.
I actually wanted to shoot all my shots for this week on film, unfortunately, the closest I came is 1/2 roll shot through my Holga. Which I havent developed yet because I am too cheap to waste 6 shots.
I only shoot RAW so I have to convert all my shots in post anyway.

ParticipantI have been thinking about getting some lights to use with props and stuff, but I’ve no idea what I’m looking for. What I originally wanted was this: http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/cameras-photography/a205/
take a look at this one. http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Concepts-Ps-101-Portable-Lighting/dp/B000FBF400
it has blue and gray backgrounds (they flip over) or you can use whatever you want. it’s small at 17″ tall but fine for a lot of stuff. you can add light at the top if needed since the top is the same material as the sides. another plus is that it folds up into its own carry bag and there are pockets for the lights and tripod.
i have one and while it’s not the same as several hundred dollars in umbrellas and strobes ….. well you get what you pay for. it really is good for small stuff.
I have one too, the box is great. The lights are pretty weak. You will definitely need better lights.

ParticipantLate last night I typed up a post and would swear I posted it. But it’s not here. Maybe I just forgot to click ‘submit’. But it had a photo of a kid smoking and maybe it got deleted for offensive or illegal content. If it is the latter, I can deal with that without whining and go about my business. If it is the former (my mistake) I might re-post it.
Anybody have info?
Like I said in an earlier post – I wanted to do a photo that bothered the viewer. But I didn’t want to cross ‘the line’ of acceptability.
I never saw it.
I doubt it would be baleeted from here,(esp w/out a pm from a mod) so repost.
