ParticipantI was a yearbook editor in high school and college, as well as publishing my own things through blurb.com so I’m somewhat familiar with this sort of process.
Great!

ParticipantQuestion. Would something like this be acceptable for this theme?
http://www.flickr.com/photos/thepostess/3751014892/
It’s actually 4 photos of the same subject put together and blended in PS.
I would say yea, but I’m not the decider 🙂
either way it’s super cool

ParticipantU-Man – Do you mind if I borrow your mood idea?
I don’t know how to answer this without seeming pompous. Yeah. I mean, no, I don’t mind at all. It’s not my idea. It just is. Go spend 30 minutes googling ‘black and white photography’. You’ll see what I mean.
Shit. Everything I do has been done before. I spend at least an hour every week looking at other people’s photos. It’s a good thing to do late at night.
Just yesterday I was looking at this photo blog of some dude up in Alaska. Sacredartichoke or something silly like that. Anyway, he had a pic of raindrops in a puddle. The text that went with it discussed the ugly mess just outside of the photo frame. That – along with this b&w theme – and the fact that it is rainy and yucky today -and many other things – made an idea crystallize in my head. I have often thought about “good light” for a photo. This implies that there is “bad light”. Well, today the light is “bad”. It is dreary. It has a sad mood. I just spent two hours down in the dingy, old, worn-out, industrial part of town taking photos that I hope will induce some sort of emotion in black and white.
I’m rambling. Go take pics of your moody hubby. 🙂
I’ve heard of that Sacredartidude I hear he sits out in the frigid cold with a camera for hours on end.
Something wrong with that guy.
Don’t sell yourself short U-man. You may not think you are original but you have a unmistakable style to your photography, and a great eye.

ParticipantNBD: Not sure I’d go with that one..think it’s stretching things a bit much.
clouddancer: Definitely color. Also, I don’t think putting a flag on a gravestone would be disrespectful, especially if the grave were of a soldier.
Yea I kinda was thinkin that too. Oh well I’m sure there will be some theme I can use it for eventually.

ParticipantShe’s 8 and still thinks that I am at least related to Superman. If I can get this out of her now without much effort…
/Do parents of teenage girls sleep with one eye open? Do they sleep?
My girls are 25 & 18. Not only do you not sleep, but they are responsible for gray hairs, high blood pressure, ulcers, ground down teeth, etc etc…
good luck!

ParticipantI am not sure if this is pushing the line.
It’s a sock puppet snowman impaled on a fence post blowing in the wind like a flag.
Sort of a cryptic warning to Santa and his minions to keep out.

ParticipantI am going to do at least one landscape. But b&w is so good for dark, depressing, wrong, harsh photography that I want to do some shooting specifically with this mood. I had in mind a kid (one of mine) smoking a lit cigarette. Do you guys think this is tolerable? I mean, I don’t want to cross the ‘OK line’, y’know. I’m going to do some sort of specific moody b&w portrait – I just like ’em.
Do it do it do it do it do it do it.
If U-Woman gets PO’d tho I will deny all instigation!! 😉

ParticipantGlad to hear it worked out. Sometimes you need to walk away and things work themselves out.

ParticipantI never put anything on my lens except my breath and a microfiber lens cloth.
Especially not alcohol! I hope you didn’t damage any coating on the outer lens.Keeping fingers crossed for you.

At one time I had ten 67 Chevelles in my parents yard.
