ParticipantIt won’t pick them up if there aren’t any votes.
/got nuthin 😛olavf
ParticipantMe too, leica. Yesterday was a whole lot of angst and beer :/
-edit: maybe I should scan the scant few photographs I have in my possession that I took when I was nine or ten 😛

Participantlokisbong: My bad – suffering from geographical compression apparently :/ I’m more familiar with the area around McKinleyville, which is why I was thinking Trinidad.
As for your shot, I’d vote for it.
/and yeah…SF, for example is “only” 90 miles away…but I haven’t been able to get there either.

ParticipantWhat about pictures of a harbor with almost no buildings but plenty of boats? And is a single building like a lighthouse ok?
Trinidad? If my memory serves, there’s a couple of really cool shots I could probably get. Along the bluff road towards the ocean, with the inn (?) on the right for example.

Participantravnostic, this is actually the first time I’ve had an issue like this in a good long while – and the first time with this server. Before last night it hadn’t even been rebooted in nearly a year – and that was when we lots power long enough that the UPS ran out.
elsinore, I’m going to have to let those two broken links stay broken. Not sure if it’s too much, or if there’s something funny with one of those files, but the moment that Fark breaks them, the whole system runs happier :/ Thanks anyway.

ParticipantThanks. I seems like it’s a uber-heavy night. But, I think I’m going to have to make a push this weekend and get the new server in place by next week. W00.

ParticipantElsinore, can you restore my broken?
It may well go down again, ’cause we seem to be having server issues tonight that I can’t quite figure out – may have something to do with posting twelve pictures in a greenlit thread, but I dunno yet.

ParticipantI only found out this AM when she commented on my FB page, but I responded saying that if they wanted to send out some links that we’d be happy to do so.

ParticipantLooking at the top 10 right now… soosh, swampa, u-man, elsinore, ranger joe… me? One of these things is not like the others. Ha.
Which also has me wondering… where is orionid?
He and kestrana are sans internets this weekend I believe.

ParticipantI just went through the top 15 or so on FSM (also thanks schnee!), cut out some of the more recent ones, just because, and picked my personal favorites such that they’re all different.
In other words, I used the perfect equation for tankitude 😉

ParticipantEven with a macro lens you’re likely to find that problem on autofocus. When you’re up that close, the tiniest movement, either from you or your subject is likely to send the AF hunting. A macro lens may be better adapted for that, but I’d suggest trying it on manual.
edit: if you plan on doing a lot of macro photography, I’d highly recommend getting a macro. You’ll get much better results, and can get much closer to the subject.

Participantwell, my ‘original idea’ for the contest is in third and the two I picked from archives are doing better, in reverse order from how I thought they’d go, so there you have it 😛

ParticipantThis one works on a Canon though:
http://morningcupojoe.com/2008/02/06/canon-5200mm-mirror-lens/(this link has a couple of shots taken with it: http://thenextcorner.net/canon-5200mm-f14-slr-dslr-lens/)
Too bad it’s manual focus, and you need a small pickup truck for a tripod.

Participantoh noes!

ParticipantThanks, and I wish =/
I’ll probably be at work for at least an half hour. And then lady_nocturne is coming by to borrow my static lights and backdrop for her school’s prom (school for misguided kids = zero budget for such frivolities) and I need to show her how to break everything down so she can set the stuff back up again.
*then*, oh, yes. There will be gin.
