Astronomically speaking, summer is June 21 to September 21, but culturally Memorial Day to Labor Day is traditionally summer. For the purposes of this contest, anything shot from Memorial Day to now is fine, or if you’re in the southern hemisphere, December through March.

I have a funny story about that, well funny for me. In March of 2009 a group us flew to South Africa for a humanitarian mission, we were there from most of the month..so I literally experienced all four seasons in one month. We left Toronto in the winter, landed in South Africa in their summer, March 21 came and went, we’re now into fall, flew back to Toronto, it’s spring!

Funny thing about the winning picture–it was the ‘last minute, last ditch’ entry, a throw-away from my ‘Sports Photography’ photo shoot….My personal opinion was it was just ‘meah’. But I figured if they all liked it, maybe the fark voters would, too.

Now if someone can just explain to me just what everyone sees in it that I don’t, maybe I could improve my averages on a more consistent basis… 🙂

I remember when the power went out in Toronto (and NYC, etc), it was awesome to sit outside and look at all the stars that you can’t ever see in the city. A lot of people took advantage of this, the parks were fairly busy that night…

There is a reason I own one of these things (http://www.mec.ca/AST/ShopMEC/Climbing/Carabiners/PRD~5010-079/petzl-spirit-anodized-quickdraw.jsp). Part of my job involves me being up 20 storeys, and I am paranoid about dropping my work camera (a cheap p&s) so I use this clip to attach it to my harness (or belt). I’ve used it when going out on boating trips with my nephew, like I said I’m paranoid about dropping or loosing my camera.

I think I have mine ready…I based my shoots on a running sement in Owl magazine (I think it was called that, it was a kids science magazine). It was about close up shots of everyday things. All I need to do is pick the 3 I want to use.

Meh, life got busy and complicated, and I’ve been uninspired. With the kids back in school, I’m hoping that will change at least somewhat.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that has been unispired. The themes have been good, I just have felt ‘meh’ about shooting most of the summer.

I was looking at the birding one too. Something just doesn’t seem right about the photo.

it looks almost fake to me, but hey maybe his skills are just THAT good? What do I know?

looking at his site, http://www.gregscott.com/ , he has a serious thing for birds…he may even be astonishingly good.

He does seem to take really good bird photos.

I don’t think it really matters, as his comments will probably drive voters away. Voters don’t come for debates about what is or isn’t a sport, they come to look at pictures (and vote for the ones they like).
