ParticipantI was out Tuesday morning and sat there clicking the shutter, muttering to myself “Yeah, I got this one in the bag.”
Probably wrong, of course, but they did turn out really well, IMO.

ParticipantOoooh, *like* the ‘Moderator’ tag below your name Kes (may I call you Kes? I call your hubby “the big ‘O'”).
Ditto on the yay for the lots of votes–sadly, not too many of them are for me. Obviously I don’t know how to spell. I think I should have used my ‘V’. But I swore to myself I wouldn’t–even though it seems to me to be the best ‘V’ on the whole planet–maybe even the universe. But pride goeth, etc. Maybe I’ll do better in ‘Clouds’ (the game is on, Plama!)

ParticipantI must admit I’m considering skipping out on this contest. There’s gonna be 1) the aged old hand together with the newborn one 2) The aged old couple of hands, with the caption ‘Married 92 years’ (or some such) and 3) the newborn asleep with the hand flipping the bird.
And I just can’t compete with that.
I have two ideas, both of high difficulty, shopping requirements, and no guaranteed voter appeal. I have a third option which requires my entrance into a religious venue, and I’m pretty sure cameras aren’t too welcome there.
//made to fail. 🙁

ParticipantThis project is still on my ‘to-do’ list. Haven’t had much luck finding an overhead projector nor scanner for cheap (craiglisters are so flakey!!).

ParticipantQ seems popular–I didn’t think it would be. I should have known–had 4 different ‘Q’s to choose from myself…

ParticipantNice–I love shack-remnant image. I try to get out on the road and just pick a direction and go every once and a while just to see what pictures I can take. I don’t usually do as well.

ParticipantU-Man; TYVM for that insight**.
My brother isn’t looking for pictures for me to use in the contests, of course, but you don’t get the photographer you want, you get the photographer who’s related to you, wants the job, doesn’t need to get paid for it, and occasionally takes a nice shot. And that guy wants him to have some pictures for his album that has his two kids dressed up like the angel and devil (they love costumes) and ‘sitting’ on his shoulders ‘giving advice’, or his daughter, 4 now, holding daddy in the palm of her hand. At least some of them.
Your advice will be helpful.
Further, I had no idea Mopsy only started relatively recently in the hobby. I thought perhaps it was she who sparked your interest. I’ll ‘amen’ the difficulty of computer training over the phone. 🙂
**thanks also to olavf for the additional insight.

ParticipantOh, and she won’t let me use it in the contest lest her husband find out, so a very early b and everyone else is welcomed to make a better one (which shouldn’t be hard–picture is over 3 years old, maybe a month(?) from when I purchased my DSLR. I didn’t even have a RAW image to work with:

(safe for work, I suppose, but not suggested)
Deanna, and her double D’s (which were brand new at the time and she was very proud.)
I thought they were super-awesome, too.//Any questions on that goto http://www.fark.com/comments/6106990/The-original-Wonder-Woman-Lynda-Carter-is-going-to-be-grand-marshal-of-an-upcoming-Gay-Pride-parade-Fabulous

ParticipantAs hard a time as I had coming up with entries for this thread, I cannot imagine banning a letter as to “easy”!
All I know is I’ll be replete with “b’s”–of a different color. I’ve been seeing letters everywhere. Off for one last jaunt for the contest–it’s a beautiful morning, I’ve just finished a 72 hour via 6-12 days workweek, I have a whole 36 hours before I have to go back and do it again, and dammit–I wanna take pikchers!
Is there a 12 step program for this?
I’m either 18 or 24 months ahead of myself here, but can we call Alphabet Photo II “Qwerty”, and include all the characters on a standard qwerty keyboard?
ravnostic
ParticipantI banned myself from some letters for the purpose of the contest, but I may go back on that; I’m on day 5 of 6 days straight, 12 hour shifts, and haven’t had much opportunity to go hunting (archival or otherwise). I got an interesting ‘i’ the other day, though–may need to use it. Hope not.
I do plan on doing the whole alphabet, X^0, when I get a round tuit. The only one I KNOW I’ll use is a lovely Q that I took at the botanical gardens. And another one which I took about a week after I got my DSLR; photo magic it is not, but it’s a perfect fit for the contest, me thinks. Me hopes. Maybe not. You never know about these contests…
ravnostic
ParticipantIndeed; a most beautiful picture. Quite the gap of no entries since Panoramics in August, 2008. Hopefully, he’ll try a few more contests with the better results he received.
ravnostic
ParticipantI thought it was supposed to be one letter per photo?
Yeah, reading through the thread affirms this.
Carry on, then.
//will still probably do it anyway, fors myselfs. Mewantzit.
ravnostic
ParticipantOkay, I don’t think I’d have time for this to do all new, but a quick look through the archives begs me to ask, what if we post a picture of a collage of of all our favorite alphabet pictures, say framed on a wall or some such. It’s a picture of pictures–but on the other hand, it’s a composition of unique images.
But it seems like that toes the line about what the contest is about–and maybe we’d get all/most of the letters that there were from everyone, and have a collective ‘f’alphabet to proudly call ‘our own’.
Thoughts?
//probably do it anyway, just for me.

ParticipantU-Man, I have a question; if it’s too personal, kindly decline to answer.
You often have pictures featuring your keds [sic], and in so many unique ways appropriate to the themes. I wonder, “What are the kids thinking? {Is dad nuts? He’s gone off the deep end this time} How does one propose these ideas to his children? Has he used this as a lesson in life, as well as photography? Or is simple bribery involved? How does the angle of grandma also participating in the art affect things?”
And a lot of such questions. If you are so inclined, I’d love a little insight into the U-Man photographic experience, as it relates to your family images.
//I ask, for I’ve been asked to photograph my brother with his kids, now that he’s recently divorced and doesn’t have someone to take pictures of his interactions with his children–and they grow up quickly. Spontaneity will happen, of course, but it seems it would also be fun to aspire to developing (so to speak) an interest in a nephew’s or niece’s appreciation for things like lighting, perspective, and other artsy-farty stuff.
Posted in the forum because you’re an icon here, and I’m sure others would be interested in your response, if you are so inclined to provide one.
