ParticipantOK, caradoc, I found a challenge for you: http://www.studioarthur.co.uk/
I don’t think the photography itself is as good as yours, but the recreations are pretty funny.
‘ta funnay. Please, man up to the challenge. 😛

ParticipantSpeaking of PICs,…
Microchip has always impressed me as a modern company in a fiercely competitive global environment. They are as accessible to guys like me buying 1 part as to companies making millions of production units. They have been this way since I discovered them in the ’90s, when I coaxed a sample of two 16f877’s from a sales rep. Another company (albeit vendor vs mfg) in that field that I have the same sentiments for is Mouser, who are “just down the street” from me.
Your son does know that the TY in TTY stands for type, as in literally typed out on paper, right?
Man I’m old.
Gee, what a small world. Reading this thread might as well be reading Greek for all I understand about it; I dropped out of programming back in the 80’s when BASIC stopped being the way to go. But that Microchip company you mention? Yeah. You’re using chips that I’m making.
Microchip is an excellent company in more ways than I could go into here without overtaking the thread. Thanks for your support from a guy who makes the product you use!

ParticipantThat’s it, I move we have no more animal themes, can I get a second on that motion? 🙂
That raccoon shot is just something else, aspidites.
Seconded, but with a catography caveat. And a ‘difficulty factor’ of ‘must be domesticated’, even for that.
About that raccoon shot–how does one set that up? Is it just a spontaneously awesome photo, or do you have to set up camp near their hutch and just wait for the little buggers to do something cute after a few days time?
Wow.

ParticipantMy Halloween costume this year. Took this for a selfy-self portrait event over at G+, theme being (of course) Halloween costumes.

Going to Casino Az for their contest tomorrow–I hope I win some prize (even 5th place is $500). Them damned corduroys set me back $80–and I can’t for the life of me imagine what else I can do with them!
//(And yes, I did check the thrift stores–but do you have any idea how hard it is to get 32 inseam yet 36 length pants? These came unhemmed (which I can do), are imported from Italy, and the price tag on them said they were $150. If they were anything other than corduroys, I’d say I got a bargain.)

ParticipantAt our Renfest, they have old-school (or seemingly so at least) carnival rides–a giant Trojan Swing Horse, these rubberband contraption things with trampolines that people bounce on, and a couple kiddie rides. Wish I had some pictures, but haven’t been in a while.
Since I gambled that everyone’s going to bring their game, I used one good pic for ‘That’s no moon’ (which was worth it–it wouldn’t have done as well against others of the same ilk), I only have one picture that I hope will do well. Then I have a whole buncha b’s from which to find some A’s, or B+’s at least.

ParticipantI hate you. You horrible, horrible man. How dare you take such images! And then post them! I’ll have you know I’ll never enter another waterfall/green themed/tree/color/long exposure/tropical contest again! And its
all.
your.
fault.
Lovely pictures, by the way. Care for some tea? Do try the biscotti…fresh from Milan this morning–though I’m to understand they had to re-bake it as it didn’t quite finish the first time.

ParticipantPurdy! I especially like the 2nd and 4th ones.

ParticipantI haven’t done the maths (okay–I’m a geek–yes I have), but I’d estimate Kestrana‘s estimation is pretty accurate. Though I’m getting much better at it lately–I can at least say when I’m going to do well (i.e., any one picture in the top 10) or poorly (i.e., anything with a grave marker) with fair accuraccy [sic].
//because I mis-typed it, and thought it was fitting.

ParticipantI use the Canon DPP program to start. Occasionally I’ll take it over to Elements if I’m not getting what I want from DPP (I haven’t learned Elements well enough yet, I’ll grant). Backups situationally involve Irfanview (which is great freeware), Serif PHotoplus 9.0 (more or less replaced with Elements), and if I’m not getting the sharpness I want, I’ll throw it through Photozoom Classic, which does a great job at sharpening/noise reduction.

ParticipantI guess spelling wasn’t a prerequisite back in 1892
Guess knot. (took me a minute to spot it). 😆

ParticipantThanks Kes; I’ll get you the link sometime today (or tonight, if I shoot something better).

ParticipantI just realized I’ll be working early Wednesday. May I ask for an OBO?
Not that I have my pictures picked out yet–this is a tough theme for me, but when I do… 😆

ParticipantI love the gumball shot. I think it’s going to fast and furiously make it into the top few spots.

ParticipantMeh. 18 megapixel is no better than my T2i. Plus the CF memory format is kind of a deal breaker.

“Yes, I do have more money than talent. What makes you ask?”
The sensor, the article says, uses a larger size bit pad for reduced noise, so I’ll settle for that (my xTi only has 10Mpxl). Plus it IS a full size sensor (which I lack.)
I swear if I win the costume contest this year, I’m buying one (and not otherwise–top prize is $3K)

Participantlinguine; seems fine to me.
