That might be the one wedding I’d shoot, because the Bride and Groom would have backup equipment I could use 🙂

It gets harder and harder to avoid the dreaded R’s over time. I have over 400 entries, spread out over a few hosting sites, and I know that there are people here with probably double that number. It’s gotten so that the major amount of time invested for me on a weekly basis is looking to see if the shot I want to use is one that I used before.

I’m not sure what the solution is, but it’s a problem that’s only going to get worse over time.

    Oooops!

Mods, please kill my 2010-10-20 08:02:06 PM screwup. Not sure what I did wrong there.

Sweet! How did it work out that a Polish magazine found your photo?

And did you get paid in Zlotys?

Looks like some folks don’t quite get the rules. A picture of abe vigoda is Fark-ish, but not kosher.

    Wow, shelves full of Kimbles…;)

    Nice pictures, nice architecture.

No one minded you snapping away inside a library?

I didn’t get one glance askance. I thought there might be a problem, but apparently, the position of the library is that as long as you don’t disturb other patrons, photos are OK.

The older part of the building is the original circulation desk/reading rooms of the original library- the modern, curved 6 story addition was built on the back of the property and the atrium built to connect the two. There was a lot of intense restoration done to the original part of the building. From up close, on the street, it looks much the same as it did in the 1960’s. Stand back a block, and you can see the whole addition looming behind the original facade.

Psst! Heya Kestrana. the Roswell photo is supposed to be “Sunrise”, not Sunset.

Were you using a polarizing filter, perchance? That can lead to odd effects as well as enhance vignetting if not carefully used.

One of my occasional Gedankenexperimenten is the idea of an 8×10 view camera with a scanner mounted on the film plane. Slow, yes, but interesting, to me, anyway.

I’ve even thought that one could build a proto-view camera with just a scanner in a cardboard box, suitably modified, with an appropriate lens… No shutter needed, just a variable aperture (and a laptop to drive the scanner).

There are several ways to stack, but the simplest method is to is to stack multiple exposures on top of each other in layers. The bottom layer gets 100% opacity, second gets 50%, third gets 33%, 4th gets 25% etc. This gives a straight average of image data, which reinforces the actual data while minimizing noise. Stacking 30+ images knocks the noise floor *WAY* down, and allows you to aggressively stretch levels (always do this in 16bits/channel) to increase the contrast of the faint fuzzies in the sky. This even works with 8-bit channel images, stacking can give you a 16-bit image that can be stretched far more than if averaged into an 8-bit image. It’s not as good as starting with 16-bit RAW-to-tiff, but it’s an improvement over the base 8-bit.

So you take, say, 32 images at the same exposure, and arrange them in layers in Your Favorite Image Hacking Program? Am I understanding this correctly?

Here’s a shot of Orion’s nebula, 2.4 seconds, 300mm focal length. Noise in an xTi is bad. No processing, just the raw shot.

    [picture]

It’s at lease discernible. I could do better–but we drinks the day after my birthday, ya know.

Stacking would greatly improve the image. Since this isn’t piggy backed, I’m kinda stuck with the shot as is.

What is stacking? I’ve seen it mentioned a couple of times now….

Thanks, all! That was actually a shot I took with the idea that I was going to use it in Farktography someday- I remember thinking, “I’ll bet there will be a classic Green color contest coming along any day now”.
