ParticipantHyperlink color is the only thing that really jumps out at me. And perhaps the fact that when you first load the home page it is virtually empty. It takes a few seconds for the first line of text to appear in the fade-in. Might I suggest instead of and all-black background for that putting a faded-out image behind the text. That way there is something on the page for the visitors eye to focus on before the text appears.
This is such an obvious point, I don’t know why no one made it before. I noticed that, too, but forgot to remark upon it… I was looking at the content.

ParticipantSo my 900px-wide Baseball shots don’t really need a watermark, then?
I haven’t really decided what else is going on there, but after numerous requests to see them, I figured I’d better have a better place to show them off than an interior thread here (not that there’s anything wrong with here!)

ParticipantLooks good. Do you plan on watermarking your pics, or just letting them go free on the internet?
Also, on your contact page you indicate a potential stop in “NY” in September. Would that be NYC? Or Upstate? Both?
I ask about watermarking, because I’m in the earliest stages of putting together a blog myself to showcase my photos and photoshops. I haven’t decided whether/how to deal with ownership of my images. For the moment I’m considering a watermark approach, but I’m open to other ideas.
I ask about the NY trip because I know ennuipoet‘s in NYC, and I’m at the other end of the state. Depending on where you roll up to, it could be party time for either or both of us.

ParticipantWe should have a special Farktography Prize for anyone who gets them all!
How about a date with a real live human being of the winner’s preferred gender? Anyone managing to cram all those in is really in need of a life.

ParticipantThis will give me all summer to try to get a single good one. I have no tracking mount, nor have I any sort of telescopic lens. What I have got is a remote trigger. When I went out to see what I could get, I got short streaks due to short (1-5 minute) exposures. Obviously, my contribution will be either the local planetarium &/or one of those REALLY long exposures with the massive star arcs across long swatches of sky. If I’ve got until November/December, I might just get one by then.
Any suggestions for ISO/f-stop settings if/when I get a chance to try?

Participanthunches – I’m home now, on another computer, and the picture’s showing up dark, but easily identifiable as a tabby cat. I would have been surprised had there been a problem with this computer, however… I’ve had some problems with Photoshops I’ve done with it being too dark… I’ve had to turn down the brightness a few times.

Participantlooks dark but fine to me hunches… I can see the kitty just fine… a true beauty…
damn… now I miss Digit (our late grey tabby)…

ParticipantWow… this one snuck up on me. I’m too beat to even think about corralling the proper HTML to participate this week. I’ve got Rust never sleeps ready, but not this one… looking forward to voting tomorrow.
at the top of the fark comment box there is a series of button. do you know that the mountain range looking thingy second from the right will auto fill your HTML needs?
If it were not for those buttons I might have had to purposefully forget some music trivia or something to make enough room in my brain for learning HTML. lol
It’s been a busy month for me with the new job so I just picked three I like from past contests that did at least passingly well.Honestly, last night I was quite literally falling asleep at my keyboard when I wrote that. Finding 3 images worthy of entry in what would definitely be a “Best of…” contest was not in the cards.
It’s OK… the Scavenger Hunt will be an interesting challenge this week…
BTW – any chance of adding a few more hoppered themes to the schedule?

ParticipantGreat shots Yugoboy! They sure bring back a lot of good memories.
Makes me want to go to the ballpark this weekend.
Thanx! A night at the ballpark is loads of fun… if the weather is cooperative. Been cold here for many of the games (not all). Tonight was good weather until about an hour before gametime… a cold front moved in and I was decidedly not prepared.
Rather than overload, I’ve got a single shot here. Baserunner will be declared out at first, but this shot’s microseconds before that… I caught the ball in the frame (as suggested earlier in this thread).

ParticipantExcellent work Yugoboy!
Thank you so much!
2 more…
Yesterday’s Yankees/Columbus game was rained out, so today’s contest was a 2 7-inning game double-header. We work straight through the first game when this happens. In the second game, I watched one inning.I pulled out some of the Photoshop skills for this one… a successful stolen base in 3 parts:

I like the composition and all the various bodies in motion on this one:

ParticipantAndy Pettite caused the second-highest attendance in stadium history. Every parking lot was jammed full, and we were done by the second inning. Pettite was decidedly NOT Hall of Fame material on this day. He looked like a AAA player, and not a particularly good one. The Pawtucket Red Sox got 6 hits off him, good for 5 runs. Even so, when he walked off the field at the end of the 5th, people roared his name until he acknowledged the crowd with a hat wave (which I didn’t catch because it was so fleeting).

This was an unsuccessful play at home plate. The Pawtucket player scored after tagging up on a long fly out.

Once Pettite retired for the day, the Yankees came alive and scored 5, but the Red Sox ended up with 7. The next few shots are just action shots as the Yankees tried desperately to dig out from the hole Pettite dug for them.

This one works better with reduced saturation.

This is the grand sepia experiment:

ParticipantOK… this is going to be a bit ridiculous… I’ve got a few game photos, but May 5 was also the first fireworks night I got to attend… so, 4 of those. May 6 was Andy Pettite day. I went a little berserk, taking like 300 pics. I wont’ be stupid and bore you with anything like all of them, but I’ve got 2 of Pettite, as well as a few of the game, and the last one is a bit of me playing with Photoshop, turning a modern picture into a B/W Sepia shot.
I know I’ve already mentioned Mastroianni. He’s pretty good. His average is just under .400 and he turned in 4 RBIs May 5. This is two of them (he hit a single that drove these 2 guys in.

This was the second game of a double-header created by the sudden arrival of Andy Pettite. While the Wings haven’t been great this year, they dominated Game 2. This shot was of a routine force out at first.

Another close-up of a player’s back (I like this pose, I don’t know why). I give you 3rd Baseman Ray Chang:

Fireworks!
Thanx ennuipoet! I used your suggestions and these came out pretty good. Going to try a few different locations over the next few weeks. It was tough to get far enough away to get “context.” I took these from quite literally the last accessible row of seats (there are luxury boxes above these).

Going to put May 6 in the next post.

ParticipantIf Mrs. Curious is OK with the growing collection, and you’re not desperate for the cash. I’d say keep it. You have a back-up for any time you have to have one or the other serviced, and you can use both when at an event and want to have 2 lenses at hand without the quick lens change hassle.
If you have an idea of what you could get for it, and have a new acquisition in mind (lens, filters, flash, etc.) you’ve got the Minolta as your back-up. When you leave town, or are someplace where battery life may not be as long as the excursion, I’d bring along the Minolta just for back-up.
FWIW – I still have space (just) in my camera bag for my ancient Olympus. It just rests there contentedly waiting for need. When I go out of town, I grab 4 AAA batteries and load it up. This has come in handy a couple of times, mostly for my wife. Once in Italy her camera’s battery died, so she borrowed the Olympus (she’s very much a point-and-shoot person). Another time she forgot her camera and borrowed the Olympus again. For my purposes, if’n I ever do have my battery die, I’ve got it. I’m supposed to be getting a Polaroid P&S soon that’s a few more megapixels, but the lens is tinier, so I’m assuming the quality won’t be as good. That’s going to be the back-pocket/lives-in-my-car camera. It’s free, so… why not?
