I think I told everyone at work today the story about that photographer. “So get this guys, professional wedding photographer has the lowest of low end Canon dslrs and an 18-55 lens on it. And that was all she had. And then the bride asked orionid to take some vintage photos with his landcam and the photographer insisted he email her and not the bride…”

Please tell me you are going to email the pics to the bride and NOT the photographer.

Around here all the bored housewives get a DSLR, a few bridal magazines and call themselves wedding photographers. Not that there’s anything wrong with a bored housewife (or househusband) creating a new career. However, most of us only get married (to the same person) once so it’s not like you get do-overs.

    That’s what she said.

You know, that little bit never gets old.

    /That’s what she said.

That’s really primes vs zooms more than anything, but it amazes me that no one is building something along the lines of an 18mm F3.5 in a compact design for aps sensors. You’d think Nikon might have figured that out after seeing the 35/1.8 selling like hotcakes….

I bought myself the 35/1.8, and I love it pieces. You cannot beat it for less than $200. Now if only I could find a macro at that price.

what bothers me nowadays about the less expensive (i won’t say cheap) zoom lenses is the poor F stop. 3.5 on an 18-55 or 18-70 and 4.5 or worse 5.6 on a long zoom is crap. film lenses (and now the much more expensive digital zooms) were 2.8 usually and 1.8 for premium.

    grumble grumble

Grumble grumble indeed. I have taken decent pictures with my kit lenses, but I’ve taken enough pictures to realize the limitations of these lenses. I’ll probably trade up at some point when I can free up the cash.

They say married couples really start to look alike after a while… 😉

😳 Sorry about that. My reading comprehension goes to hell when it’s late and/or I’m drinking.

The wording of this theme description makes me giggle.

Me too. I like it because it is succinct but still wide open.

New topic – I’m speechless about how well this guys understands light and people…

His pictures on “Why I Became an American” appeared in Real Simple magazine a few months back. Good stuff although I do agree with olavf that he does seem to be a bit of a one trick pony when it comes to portraits.

U-Man – as usual, it’s all good stuff. I love the stack skids pic. It probably wouldn’t work for this contest but definitely for vote whoring. The rust picture makes me pine and yearn for a macro lens.

I have no idea what I’m going to enter tonight. I had lots of possibles but after reading this thread, I’ve ruled most out. Hmmm… Perhaps I’m overthinking this?

Actually, Kes, it got 9. But point well taken–I sometimes go with the one I like the best, the one I kinda like, and the one I figure won’t do well–and the last often gets the most votes (and the one I like best hardly ever does.)

That’s been my experience as well. I should just learn from the voters and pick my least favorite first and work backwards. There’s no accounting for taste of the farktography voter.

FWIW my leading vote getter is my least favourite entry, I’ll never figure voters out.

That’s been the case for the past two weeks and holds true this week as well. *shrug*

I was kinda wondering about fog. Would that be water enough?

Good question. I planned on taking pictures this morning but the fog conspired against me. I did manage a few shots but nothing I’m overly fond of.

Rather than risk a DQ, I’ll just ask. Does this fit the theme?

I’ve given up entirely on predicting the predilections of Farkers.

Me too. The stupid Elmo picture has gotten more votes than the picture I actually made some effort to make. However, I should thank Rav for giving me the idea for the Elmo picture.
