Kestrana: …notable new voices… Thanks! *sniff* That may be one of the nicest things a stranger on the internet has ever said about me. 😉

    Ditto.

I agree that some of the recent themes mentioned already can be a little intimidating. If you are hung up on your vote count, it’s easy to get butt-hurt when your picture doesn’t do well. I don’t, but I can see how some might. I view the more esoteric themes as a learning experience. One, I’m learning to be more creative while improving my technical skills. Two, I like seeing what the rest of you come up with.

I’m largely a fark lurker and have been for a while. I’ll keep contributing and, one day I may even win one of these contests. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while, right?

I could have done better by not even entering my photos at all 🙂

I feel your pain. Then again, my idea (scrabble) wasn’t very original (or even well executed) evidently.

Oh well, fiddle dee dee next week is another contest.

I just wanted to say that I discovered something about myself while taking pictures for this week’s theme, I’m the idiot in my group of friends. I locked myself out on the balcony for an hour before the locksmith was able to open my door to let me back in because I wanted to shoot outside. Worst part about the whole ordeal? I didn’t even have my camera with me while I was locked out there and I’m not going to end up using those pictures.

I hope this made someone smile or laugh.

I blew my camera up while shooting for this contest. Less embarrassing but more annoying. Having to round out my entries with my stupid point and shoot.

According to Nikon’s website the recall took place in August 2009. Based on the serial number, my camera doesn’t fall under the recall. However, I experienced the exact malfunction that the recall was supposed to address.

Yeah, I don’t want to take a chance on voiding the warranty since this should be covered and might even be part of a recall.

I took the camera to BB to check my battery with their demo camera and their battery with my camera. There is nothing wrong with my battery. I’ve packaged it up to be sent off into the ether of Nikon service. This means I’ll be camera-less and cranky for at least 2 weeks.

I love the geekiness of this community. 🙂

    Really, I do.

Ditto. I’m learning a ton just by lurking the forums.

I resubmitted. It’s entirely possible that I only thought I clicked add comment. Thanks for your help.

I submitted three entries and it looks like #3 disappeared.

I had one of my pics disappear. Is this common or am I sleepy and drunk? Don’t answer that. Should I resubmit or wait and see if the cyber-gremlins let it go?

I spent 4 hours in the car with husband driving this weekend and ended up with 125 pictures. I missed out on probably just as many either fooling around with the camera or not being able to get the right angle. I missed a good shot of the truck stop spa billboard and the random rebel flag flying along the interstate. I may have three shots that are decent.

Mr. zincprincess told me that he wants an external flash for “our” D5000 as a father’s day gift. Love him. It’s not a bowling bowl with “Homer” on it but it is close. Having bought it, I’m not sure that I can wait until Sunday to play with it. I guess I’m supposed to let him have a go with it first, right?

Per usual, I am in awe of the farktographers! Some of the pictures are nightmare fuel but lovely nonetheless.

You’ve convinced me that I need a decent macro lens or at the very least extension tubes so I can take decent macro shots.

Thanks for the helpful information (and examples). I probably need to invest in a true macro lens but that may be a project for a later date. At least now I’ve figured out what I can and cannot do with the equipment I’ve got now.

I am getting close and perhaps that’s the problem. I guess I need a macro lens to do what I’m doing?
