Didn’t feel much for this contest, unfortunately. But one can’t be thrilled with all themes, I suppose.

I wasn’t loving this one or last week’s. However, a week at the beach has netted me quite a few shots for future themes so I’ve got that going for me.

My only worthwhile b-side. I love this shot of my mother in law’s cat but decided to save this one for another contest.

The family is going to the aquarium tomorrow. It will be too late for this contest, but any advice on shooting in such an environment would be appreciated.

I have nothing for this contest. Unless I can find something buried in the archive, I’ll be sitting this one out. The prospects for next week look almost as grim.

I went back to Nikon and downloaded the trial version again. Even though the file name is the same, apparently now I have the more recent version (2.2.4). I’m not sure I understand what happened but the upshot is that it now recognizes the NEF format so I got that going for me.

Now I’m off to figure out how to use it.

I like the color version best. As far as the composition, I like it although it would have been nice to capture it from the other side with the girls faces showing and the wheelchair in the background.

I downloaded the trial version which is 2.0.0. I am using Windows 7 and assume that it is 32-bit. Not sure about that last part.

I will check out the flickr group to see if I can figure it out there.

I’m trying something different for tonight’s contest. I am going solely on the opinion of my 4-year old. I gave her seven choices and am going with her top three. We’ll see how the voting goes with this strategy. It’s got to be better than me picking.

i took the D3000 to the nature center swamp walk place today and shot 263 images in an hour+. it’s nice but the exposure meter doesn’t deal well with bright sun and deep shadows. i’ll need to learn how to compensate for that. unfortunately the EV+/- is menu driven unlike the 7D which has a convenient knob.

Have you messed around with the Active-D lighting feature? I haven’t had an opportunity to play with it much but it should help with the shadows.

I’m thinking Bass Pro Shops, myself. It’s easy, it’s close, and they have an aquarium or three.

I hadn’t thought about that. We have one of those close by too.

I have almost nothing in the archives for this one. Need to get busy.

Congrats. PeriRies and I upgraded to a DSLR from a point and shoot last year. We’ve loved it. Even on auto or the pre-programmed scenes, it takes much better pictures than the P&S. The lack of a shutter delay makes it more likely that Peri will take pictures. Our only regret is that we didn’t buy one sooner for pictures of the baby (now a 4-year old).

Have fun with your new toy!

Rav – I like the first one better because of the iridescent green on the fly. Plus you get more detail of the fly.

    /Same disclaimer as previous post.

I say cut Gumby in favor of the lasers. I’m almost always wrong in my own picks so take my suggestion with a grain of salt. Or do the opposite. That might work.

I’m having a similar problem. I can’t decide which of these six I like best (or least).

She was also dumb enough to to spell her name wrong on the portfolio page.

    Good catch. I missed that.

It is sad. I feel bad for people who paid hundreds of dollars for a hack photographer.

If it’s any consolation at all, the votes I get are almost invariably opposite to what I’d expect (the one I expect to get highest is lowest, the one I expect to be lowest is highest, etc.)

My thoughts exactly. Anyone else feel this way?

Yes. Yes. A thousand time yes. I think next week, I’m going to start with my least favorite of the 6-8 and move up the list just to test my theory that I cannot be trusted to judge what is vote worthy.

I think I picked the best three. The votes will tell though, and I’ll be left scratching my head – again.
