Eden, I really like your thunderstorm & frozen flower globes. You don’t have a closeup of one of the globes, do you?

rav, you really hit it outta the ballpark this time. I’ve gotta balance out Pope and say my favorite is the sunrise halo.

As several have already said, lots and lots of really good ones this week. I’m just glad I don’t have to try to enforce the “different weather per entry” rule – that’d be a tough call I think.

And it’s really early in the contest, of course, but we’re already almost double the average # votes and even 200 votes above the last “epic” contest!

I like your Libertad shot, barriers. And thanks much for the votes!

You can vote as many times as you want up until the contest closes sometime early Sunday morning, but only once per photo. So as they say in Chicago, “vote early and vote often.” 😉

Fellow liter here, barriers. And yes, it goes green for the TF’ers 4 hours before it does for us, although I’m told that voting isn’t allowed until it hits the main page.

Zero, between your “Rod the Bod/Every Picture” comment and that old SNL bit, you’re really dating yourself (and me too for knowing the references). Making me laugh, sure, but dating yourself… 🙂 And I really like both of your first two B’s.

Speaking of B’s, mine are here. Got one of the ugly side of the ice storm and a couple of a hailstorm that forced everyone in the neighborhood to have to replace their roofs.

I’d say if you saw something you’re definitely interested in, then probably something like the latter. The guy’s already proven himself to be disreputable and untrusting, so that may be the only language that gets his attention.

Or maybe try to get a phone # (or have him call you) and talk it out instead of the email back & forth.

Good luck. I hate dealing with people like that.

Yeah, I’m going to have to fall back on the archives for this one as well. All of the interesting stuff will be coming up in a few months. Right now it’s nothing but gray.

oh, for sod’s sake, woman. 1.Knock on his door!! 2.Tell him what you’re up to and introduce him to Farktography. 3. Profit !! (votewise)

    /I would if I could

Or, ya know, kidnap him, tie him up to your bed, and break his legs with a sledgehammer. I hear he’s into that. 😉

What do you guys think of when you think of Maine?

You pretty much hit it for me – Stephen King and nature.

Indeed, congrats orionid on a truly spectacular win.

And congrats, Kestrana on your wonderful second. 58 votes is usually an easy first place, but if ya gotta come in second, I guess it might as well be to hubby, eh?

Did you sign a contract when you first started? If so, you might want to read the fine print there. In the software industry, usually your employer can claim rights to any software you write while under their employ. So for example, even if you write a game on your own time on your own machine, they can claim it unless you can clearly prove that it was started before your hire date. I’ve never had an employer be enough of an ass to try to pull something like that, though, unless the software was directly related to their line of business.

If there’s no specific statement in the contract claiming rights to employees’ creations, then I would guess that you’d both be able to claim equal rights, meaning that they can use the photos for whatever purpose but so can you. The reason for their claim would be that you created them on their time (i.e. while on the clock) and your claim would be that you used your own equipment and it isn’t part of your job description.

That said, if this is something they want you to do and expect to be part of your job, I’d definitely make them provide the equipment or at least otherwise compensate you for the use of yours. And if they’re using them for promotional purposes, they must be good enough for you to be able to demand more compensation because going outside for that kind of work would be expensive.

But that’s all just my opinion. I don’t have any explicit experience in the legal or photographic rights areas, so don’t interpret it as legal advice. 😉

U-Man – I saw that a couple of days ago. Pretty interesting if true. There’s some doubt on reddit about its veracity as the guy who claims to have found it is apparently known for self-promotion through viral videos.

rav – I can both see your entries and access the home page of your site, so I think you’re OK.

justkat – I agree! When I first saw olavf‘s entries, I thought what a good sport you must be to have done that. My wife is generally supportive of my photography shenanigans, but I can say with certainty that she’d draw the line at getting covered in white powder. 🙂

😆 Awesome. The things we do for these contests…

/Really like your barn photo, too, BTW.

Right only. I’ve never even tried using my left, it puts my nose into the menu controls and just seems kinda awkward.

Not always, but sometimes. Where it can come in really handy is when the light is totally wrong.

Yeah, I guess I should’ve qualified that a bit more. It won’t take a really saturated color and turn your image into grayscale, but works on slight tints. For example, in my color popping background the rocks had a bit of color to them so I used that technique to make them more grayscale without affecting much else.

Eden, thanks for the props! And I’m with Els on your dog shots (not just this one) – I’m not usually a boxer fan, but he/she looks like a real sweety.

orionid, I can’t remember another time I’ve seen the top entry already have 36 votes first thing Thurs morning. Awesome shot, really defines this theme.
