ParticipantAlso, 1am is not the time to have slow Fark
no, but it may be a fine time to have a …
nevermind 🙂

ParticipantElsinore take a look at this fark thread http://forums.fark.com/cgi/fark/comments.pl?IDLink=2763322 they used our “Farktography” icon. i don’t recognize the flicker user.
it’s on total fark and may take forever to load.

Participanttoo late XenPix. they (you know – them) tell me that with the site redesign that Farky is broke. i have and tried Farkit and it wasn’t working every time. Farkode seems to still work.
if you are using firefox and post comments regularly get Farkode. it will post your comments, wash your dishes and take out the trash.
or so they say. i’ve only used it for comments.

Participantfor those that haven’t been of fark yet —- good luck. the site redesign loads so slowly you’ll think you are on dial-up.
and those on dial-up will probably be reminded of a 2400 baud modem.
posting pictures is going to be a huge pain if the contest runs at the speed the PSAEF has been. i’m tempted to not preview but having the wrong image load lately in preview … oh well. just be prepared to take twice (or more) time than you have getting your entries in.

Participantthe resizing doesn’t look too ugly overall but you can definitely see it in 2007-04-18 08:21:16 PM Stompn_Tom‘s moosehead lager and the counter top edge. it didn’t help XenPix‘s beer pig either. although i think all the extra white space hurt that more than the resizing. lost a lot of impact.
2007-04-18 08:02:34 PM Elsinore which is the boone’s farm one is 467 pixels but the new layout moves the image to the far right instead of just right of center on the page. if one applies the rule of thirds it’s out of place now. as are lots of others but that one seems more noticeable to me.

Participantback in the day when we wore onions on our belts and shot film the trick was to make exposure one a shot of the palm of your hand. gave the photo processor a flesh tone to balance to.

ParticipantI will be submitting my least favourite photographs for all competitions.
that may well be the winning ticket. and a strategy i probably should employ too.
and this is an observation not a complaint but i wish we could use “strike” in here.
Curious
Participantthough I guess if you’re photographing places,
are we also doing places? i’ve got one person and one people at a place so far. although the second will need a caption probably.

Participantthanks

Participantout of curiosity i looked at “photoshop this magnet” near the top of the main page now and 16 of 48 images are 700 pixels wide. several more are over 640.
the contests in the queue only run through the april 25th. wonder if that’s why and if so when the word will spread to the photoshop folks.
Elsinore if there is a polite way to do it could you ask Drew or Mike when an announcement will be made to the photoshoppers. there’s a little unrest in the PSAEF already about some other changes. i suspect they would appreciate a heads up before their images get auto resized.
Curious
Participantthank the FSM i don’t worry about these things. between poor voting results an not entering every week lately i’m probably in the bottom 10%.
BUT i do have one (unexpected) win and a couple of seconds/thirds so i’m good.
and a lot more cat pictures to enter given the chance. 🙂
Curious
Participantwell i went up to 700 for farktography at one point and overall it would be simpler to just use 640 for everything. i use 640 for most images sent in email.
what i’m really wondering about is what will happen to the images in older contests. if i link an older contest next month will whomever opens the link get a resized contest thread? this should be interesting.
see old chinese proverb re living in interesting times.

ParticipantA) can’t we delete our own posts? that little X thing in the lower right.
B) i don’t drink and while i do have a shelf full of booze in the closet no good ideas for it.
C) had occasion to go to flickr earlier tonight and got a great preview of your entries Elsinore. that “what your contacts have posted lately” thingy.

Participanti really like the composition on the second one. and that it’s b/w.

Participantthis came up as a google result. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalphotography/learnmore/bestquality.mspx but it is much smaller than the results here. http://www.bigdigitalprints.com/order2.html
viewing distance is a big part of what’s acceptable. and also what the intended purpose is. your use isn’t juried art shows. as mentioned in the big picture thread try printing sections to get an idea how large you can go.
