ParticipantMythbusters tested the peeing on electrical things, didn’t they?

ParticipantGenerally, the high vote getters for me have also been my favorites
It’s been very, very rare that I agree with the high vote getters – whether my own, or someone else’s.
Ditto. So very much true.

ParticipantI love this idea, but personally, I don’t think I have an iconic “style” yet. Still in the exploratory phase of photography.
Stag – I think B screams your style
Lok – I’d say the first one
Ennui – the little dude in colour is awesome
For Orionid – I like Incomplete, and feel things like his shooting man from “Keep Out” or the torture chamber from “Dungeons and Dragons,” or one of his film images, like the house captured on two separate 35mm films stuffed into the same camera – that’s definitely his style.
Kes – it’s a bit hard for me to pick one for you – you’re pretty good at keeping a big variety in your shots, but you do tend to go for high-contrast it seems, so maybe one from your black and white or low key shoots
Plama – I’d go with the second, but lately you’re favouring star photos heavily, so if you intend to keep doing that, it’d be more iconic to use one of your awesome night sky shots from HawaiiFarktographer
ParticipantI’ve been looking for these cookies everywhere. Damn it, where are they??
Staplermofo – don’t worry man, we all know you’re getting better. It’s great to just see what you’re doing for yourself. Extra security? Oh, no no – that’s just a coincidence. Man, just…so good to see you taking care of yourself now.

ParticipantI’ve always been scared to push my ISO that far for fear of the noise, but maybe I could give it a shot next time I do astrophotos…it’d make for some nice landscaping, since pretty much all my shots wind up with black foregrounds unless I have the moon behind me.

ParticipantI say ebay all the way on this.
Get a no-name ball head with preposterous specs (supports up to 1500 kg!), then get some cheap legs. As I always say, good head is more important than nice legs.
You might still be able to use your old legs if you just want something to hold the head level.I’d say it depends strongly on what you’re shooting. If you’re doing a 1-minute street exposure, or a 30-minute stairtrail shot, your legs had better be damn steady. At that point, I’d take legs built like steel and a head that might not be convenient, but gets me what I need.

ParticipantBuying online is always good to get a deal, but I strongly suggest taking your camera into a camera store to try out different models. Set up, nudge it, see how stable it is, if it wobbles, how easy it is to handle, how lightweight, etc. I went to 5 different shops, trying out dozens of tripods before I picked the one that I use (given, they were all right next door to each other so it was pretty easy, but I’d still suggest trial and error before purchase nonetheless).
For what it’s worth, mine’s not a ball head, and I’ve never had a problem…ever.
Here’s a website with some good tips on picking out tripods for your use:

ParticipantWelcome to the new people. Farktography is definitely a great place to learn new tips, techniques, and hone your skill. I’ve only been in the game for a little under a year now, but it has made a MASSIVE impact on my photos. I look back on what I’ve taken over the course of the last year, and it’s shocking actually – I thank mainly Farktography for that. You see some awesome pictures from friendly people, so you can always ask them, “hey, how did you get your shot to look like that?”

ParticipantI wholeheartedly agree with Kes that mpix is a great site to order from. I started ordering small prints from them, and when I was happy with the quality, I jumped up to a handful of 11×14’s on metallic paper – loved it. I’ve seen the quality of a lot of other photo printers and wasn’t as happy. Now I’m just sad because mpix won’t ship internationally, so I need to find a new printer in the UK.

ParticipantWow… a veritable butt-load of images this week!
Many many awesome shots.
Has anyone done the research to see what kinds of contests draw the most people? In the back of my head, I kind of thought this theme was inviting a large turnout. Apparently the non-thinking part of my brain knows people better than the thinking part does.
I think the more specific the theme, the less participation. The casual farktographers probably won’t go out to take photos on a weekly basis with a theme in mind, but then something like this comes along and it’s a free-for-all.

ParticipantI would like Linguine’s “A Day Of Protest” removed, because it is a blatant copy of one of my images, just underexposed to the point that you can’t really tell. Protect my copyright!

ParticipantIf there was ever a contest to procrastinate for, this was it (well, other than Mandatory Procrastination). I only had 1 SOOC photo I knew I was using in advance, so I had to rush the other two off the discs I have in my camera that I haven’t bothered editing yet.

ParticipantOn-line piracy of music and movies is for those too lazy to go to the library and do it for themselves.
On-line piracy of software is another story.
I truly believe that if someone downloads something for free, it’s the person who wasn’t planning on buying that thing in the first place. Most of the people downloading something like photoshop aren’t the ones avoiding the cost to their business, it’s the individuals that wouldn’t pay the $699.00 price tag in the first place. You can’t point at 10 people who have downloaded it and claim, “that’s $6,990 that I lost!” when it’s money that never would have worked its way to Adobe’s pockets in the first place.
I’m not saying it’s right – I’m just saying their logic has a big flaw. Applies to all the supposed losses the MPAA claims, too.

Participant^Google search cleared things up. I knew websites were going down, but didn’t know individuals were heading off, too.
