Thanks, Kestrana and rav. I agree, it’d be interesting to submit some things, even if I don’t expect to win – you never know what the judges might be looking for.

That’s what I did and I thought I’d have NO chance, so go for it! 🙂 Heck, I was surprised and THRILLED that some of mine were chosen for the Farktography book, considering all the wonderful photographers we have here.

Woohoo, you guys are awesome! You just need to tell the rest of us when you’re not feeling themes. That’s been the only time that I’ve ever been able to win or even get in the top 5. 🙂

Thanks for the offer, ravnostic, it sounds like a cool thing to do, but I can’t make it. Hope to see some great shots if you do go, though!

This is such a cool opportunity, I’ve never been to one of the observatories yet and wouldn’t have a clue what to do though. I’m going to watch this thread and maybe I can come down there one of these days. Thanks for the offering!

Thanks for the tips, Elsinore and Kestrana. I’ll be fiddling around with Flickr and figuring it out with your suggestions 🙂

Or, just buy a $12 domain from godaddy, and use the free hosting account for posting your images. //sayin’

NO NO NO godaddy business! Not after the video showing the CEO killing an elephant. What a jerk that guy is:

    http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/129331/20110331/namecheap-godaddy-elephants.htm

“Bob Parsons, the CEO of GoDaddy.com (a major Internet domain-hosting company), has killed at least one elephant and a leopard for his personal enjoyment? It has been well established that elephants are capable of experiencing emotions, including joy, anger, grief, and sympathy? Killing a single elephant can devastate a family, and their mourning ritual over the death of a family member rivals any that we humans have developed.?

Namecheap also denounced Parsons and GoDaddy. It said:

?It?s not often that we would disagree publicly with a competitor, but we at Namecheap are very disturbed by this video of a competitor killing an elephant for sport.?

Namecheap is now offering to transfer domain from GoDaddy to Namecheap at a price so cheap that Namecheap loses money on those transactions. In addition, it will donate $1 for every transfer to Save The Elephants (www.savetheelephants.org).

Namecheap?s special offer is good until 11:59pm EST of April 1st. The coupon code for the offer is BYEBYEGD (bye bye GoDaddy).”

And stupid Flickr also changed the ‘grab the link’ prompts again, which confuzzled my old brain.

I knew Chihuly would be a popular subject, he has so many interesting pieces! Some are way too busy for my taste, but he does have amazing vision.

I knew there would be a lot of Chihuly this time around… so I didn’t enter any of mine.

Nice shots, Caradoc! Did you enter any of them into the contest that they ran? I can’t remember now if it was AZ Highways or who…

I figured since this was an International competition that I’d have NO chance, so I didn’t even title them when I submitted.

I’m not at all surprised you did so well. You are really incredibly talented, don’t let anyone else tell you different! Congrats on this, I’m so happy for you!

Of course, like a lot of you, Farktography was the ‘anonymous vehicle’ to get me started moving from snapshots to photographs and getting the balls to let others look at what I was trying to learn.

I’ve done tech support forever and had never even tried any sort of art, partly because of my sister being such a talented glass artist and oil painter, while I couldn’t draw a stick person. I’ve now inspired her to try some photography also and my first thought about that was ‘oh great…’. 😆

Thanks again you guys for the good thoughts and for being such great and supportive people! Us scared old dorks need all the help we can get! 😉

#5380; how did you get the anti-vignetting?

#5422 and “The Dance”, did you use a special filter to get those rays eminating away from the subject? (I ask as I’m working on the Darlot Project, bringing 1879 glass to my 2005 EOS.)

First, I use Capture NX2 to do my developing and also have the Color Efex Pro plug-in suite for it. This is THE BEST marriage in software, EVAR! It’s so much better than working with masks and is a totally non-destructive process. You can even keep different ‘versions’ within one NEF file, where it just keeps the instructions for the various versions, not separate images. I also use a Bamboo tablet to ‘paint’ on the effects, which I think is much nicer than using a mouse.

(I don’t know how to post images in-line, so sorry for the links)

On 5380, I used Silver Efex Pro in Photoshop for the vignetting. There was a lot of dust in the shot to help with the ‘wispiness’.

The Dance and As One were processed in CNX2, then taken into Photoshop for various blur layers at different opacities/angles, a CEP filter or two then one of the Antique presets with adjustments on As One.

Your horse pictures excite me every time. You have a real gift for them, and deserve every bit of recognition.

Thanks Rav! They really are so fun to photograph, I just wish I had a few of my own. I had an Appaloosa when I was younger and that’s where the name ‘Kashari’ comes from.

Here are a couple of B’s from me for this week. I couldn’t get the lighting just right, so I think I’ll try again for Reflections, which was I gather may be coming up sometime? (I haven’t checked the hopper lately)

I’m a HUGE Prince freak, so my sister made me a special hanging piece of his symbol and then also the wall piece, which I posted pictures of before, maybe in Roy Biv?

She owns a glass gallery in the art complex, Tlaquepaque in Sedona which has her work along with other artists, including Chihuly. She also studied at his Pilchuck(sp?) workshop many moons ago. So if any of you take a trip to Sedona, make sure and stop in, it has beautiful glass & jewelry!

(and thanks for the compliments on my horse pics! I received some great news on the same two I submitted in Software Hootenanny, so I’ll post in the Gallery about it instead of jacking this thread any further…)

Are exactly 2 sec exposures OK for this? I just noticed it says greater than, and I shot a 2 sec one the other day that I was probably going to use…..

Eek, I didn’t notice that and I had a couple of 2s that I was considering too. Verdict?

    That’s always allowed, actually.

Ok, thanks Elsinore! I thought I’d better check and make sure it was ok to ‘make’ the letter by doing that.
