ParticipantHow about rotating or flipping of the image, is that allowed?

ParticipantWell, we always find that there are shades of meaning and interpretation regardless of how a theme is worded. In this case, it wasn’t the intent for this to be a monochrome/black and white theme, but the theme wasn’t worded as prohibiting those shots outright, so by the time that nuance was brought out, it was kind of too late to specifically prohibit b/w images.
I guess part of my confusion comes from reading the discussions and then having those comments in my head, i.e. From Clouddancer: “Linguine has it right. I included the not meant to be a B&W contest specifically for that. As in I didn’t want people using black and white as a way to get more things to look black than already were. Apologies if that is confusing. ‘Twas intended to be a color contest like the rest, just with black this time…” And it was also mentioned that we shouldn’t use a colorful object against a black background, so I was confused and late. 😆
So I guess I should concentrate more on the description and then if things brought up in the discussion are made part of the difficulty, I’ll worry about them then. Thanks Elsinore!

Yup, I read it as it didn’t HAVE to be B&W, which one might infer. I was acutally surprised how few B&W shots were in the thread.
I’m actually very proud of the bar shots, I was p-lowed when I took those, my friend who bartends there was feeding me free shots. Thanks to autofocus the photos are not as blurry as I was.
It’s a terrific pic, ennuipoet! After seeing it, that’s when I thought I’d ask about one of mine, but it was too late by then.

ParticipantUgh, I hate it when I get interrupted while posting and then lose my train of thought. Ignore the first part of the sentence in my previous post, I was starting to ask about one of my other pics I’d considered and then forgot to edit it…

ParticipantIt’s probably too late now, but while Ennuipoet’s bar picture is quite awesome, isn’t it taking a color scene and making it black & white? I know I sometimes skim the descriptions, which then make things harder on myself, so it’s more of me wanting to understand the theme correctly.

ParticipantOk, thanks, all!

ParticipantSo are the 3 pics supposed to be of the same place or can they be totally unrelated?

Participantolavf = red lips on white face
Thanks. I’m glad someone liked it.
I originally went for eyes open, and I like that version better, but couldn’t post it in good faith. Too much color in the eyes vs. the lips.
Oh well.
I chuckled and voted, I liked it! 🙂

ParticipantI’m glad orionid’s picture is doing well because it makes it worthwhile to have hiked a mile into a state park through three feet deep snow and blizzard conditions specifically to take it!
It’s a great image, I was going to comment on it when it was first posted, LOVE IT!! The barn shot is really nice too, so thanks guys for your efforts!

Participantkashari, if it follows the rules of black and white/grayscale with something that color pops, I think you will be fine.
Ok, thanks, Mopsy. I wasn’t sure if having just a totally black background fit the theme properly or not.

ParticipantWill night photography work in this theme if the illuminated subjects (lit by flashlight) are the same color?

ParticipantOk, thanks for your help, Elsinore!

ParticipantI find that a good lens hood provides better protection than a glass filter – moreso after having witnessed two different people scratching the hell out of their front elements by dropping the lens and shattering the filter. In both cases, a good lens hood would have dramatically reduced the likelihood of damage.
This is good advice and I wish I would have followed it before I dropped my 70-300 lens(which did get fixed, luckily). I had a good Heliopan UV filter on it and had the hood in the bag. So I ended up losing an expensive filter on top of damaging the lens.
I’m going to try and make it a habit to keep the hood on all the time, even when turned backwards, I think it would still provide some shock absorption.
I’m also not going to worry about replacing my UV filter. I do have a Hoya, but don’t want to use it with my good glass. I do have a Helio CPN, which is really nice to have at times.

ParticipantI can’t remember if using blur filters to mask out backgrounds are allowed in this theme or is that too much like the PS paste/move you mentioned?
btw….YAY and thanks for adding this one!

ParticipantI was thinking of making that the next classic theme scheduled, actually.
+1 🙂
