ParticipantFor songs, I was going for something representational of the song, so a picture based on title, lyrics, or theme would all be appropriate. My personal shots will probably be along the lines of ‘Fantasia in still’ if you will – interpreting the song through picture – but it certainly shouldn’t be limited to that. But as linguine suggested, something along the ‘literal’ interpretation of the song name would be cool too.
Album covers I was going for more of a recreation of the album cover (or jacket liner). So Led Zeppelin, for example: the ‘Houses of the Holy’ cover could be done as a SFF version, but something like ‘Led Zeppelin I’ think would be more difficult, unless you can come up with a creative way to recreated the Hindenburg disaster.
All-in-all I’m going for a pretty open contest. And, given how much music there is in the world that’s been recorded in the last 100 or so years, a caption would be appreciated, I think.

Participantbucky_bacon it’s a challenging theme, sure, but I think we all need this sort of theme to push ourselves. And, I don’t think the participation this week is bad, so far. And there’s certainly been quality to make up for any perceived lack of quantity.

ParticipantI’m actually curious about that too. I’ve got at least one I’m considering where someone’s working hard, but it’s technically a recreational activity (hockey, in this case).

ParticipantBrevity ftw.
That’s *NOT* what she said.

ParticipantI looked through my archives, and most of the shots I considered are of Caltrans workers. The ‘hard at work’ difficulty precludes them, I think =P

Participantmopsy I’m glad to hear that he’s going to be okay. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
They don’t have to be still lifes ennuipoet
/Right?
Well, one of mine (the only one I like) isn’t but I simply procrastinated searching out subjects and went with a couple of still lifes.
I don’t bake, and I’m really not much of a dessert person =P

ParticipantcauseIsaidso I did both RAW and JPG for a while, but I found it redundant. I never used the jpegs once I got comfortable with the RAW files. I do my previewing in DPP any more (the thumbnails tend to give me an idea) but there’s also a windows plugin for XP, and if you have Vista or Seven you just need the codecs to view them in the preview panes if that’s your preference…
Is there a way to eliminate the JPG save when shooting in RAW? I haven’t found it, but I could eek out a couple more images, if so. It’s so easy to convert to JPG after processing (or not processing, when it’s right), I’d love to save the space on the CF…
I honestly can’t say for sure on the Rebels, but with the 20D and the 40D, the menu options are JPG, RAW+JPG, or RAW. I’d suspect the Rebels are the same way.
I know that doesn’t work on the ‘green square’ or any of the PP modes though. You have to go P or Tv or any of the other partial-to-full manual settings.

ParticipantI didn’t want to mention the second battery on top of everything else, but that’s never a bad idea. Kat and I each have one, so there are four between the two of us 😛

ParticipantSpeaking of, I’d be surprised if Deveyn doesn’t take this one hook, line, and sinker. What with is scoring a sweet jorb bulding a network infrastructure in freaking Micronesia and all =P

Participant362 shots is around 4.5gigs on my camera in RAW. That was a friend’s wedding. If I’m really in the ‘zone’ and trying for the difficult shots I might take 150, normally.

ParticipantI’m not going to say what I’m thinking, because the difficulty factor is kinda high, and I don’t know if I can pull it off still. And I don’t want to ruin the surprise if I can 😛

ParticipantMine tells me if there’s no CF card loaded. But it doesn’t help if you don’t check until you’ve driven 20+ minutes from home….
My P&S came in really handy a few years ago when I was in a pretty nasty car accident. I handed it to a bystander and asked him to take a few shots of the accident scene. My lawyer was EXTREMELY happy. The dump truck driver’s, not so much 😉

ParticipantThe nearest to us is San Francisco – around 90 miles. Monterey is awesome, but that’s a day trip at a minimum away. And an expensive proposition if you’re going to take two adults and three kids 😛
We have a fish hatchery nearby, and got some okay stuff from there between the two of us, and I’m sure I can get some AWESOME shots there – in November, when the salmon are running…. So my shots are going to be pure win, or pure fail.
