ParticipantAaack. There are too many conversations going on here. I’m getting confuzzled.
Lokisbong – I agree with Els. Your pics don’t suck at all. I just ran a Bibliostats early –> late entries for Loki and you’ve come a long way, baby.
Hmmm. Graduated Neutral Density filters. This damn hobby…three’s always something else to wanna buy. I’m looking at a softbox first though.
Lokii – When I was in med school, my wife and I were newly married. We had one car (a sweet Buick we bought from her grandma for $1100 and sold five years later for $1200) that my wife used to get to work. I rode a kick-start Honda 50 cc with homemade faux-leather saddle bags to school. It was…memorable. 🙂
I agree with Elsinore’s statement about the Bob857 photo. With a long exposure, variations in the the water pattern might average-out.
ZE – congrats on the publishing thing. It’s a pretty nice photo. too.
And I’ll write something to the powers about the “Funny” vote.
I think I got everything.

ParticipantI’m not diggin’ the funniest category. I think it steals votes from the ‘real’ category.

ParticipantI like “apples and oranges interacting”.
1. – I can use my photo.
2. – It at least pushes us to do something more creative than snapping a pic of an orchard. This theme isn’t an archive dive (for sane people).
I was planning on doing a few different planned shots for this – a battle is definitely one of them, just wanted to make sure my other ideas would fall into the kosher category.
We haven’t received a final word from orionid so shoot the battle first.

ParticipantI saw that question and answer. I agree that #3 looks nearly completely desaturated in the foreground. I think any more ‘calling out’ without hard proof could do more harm than good. Plus, I might be wrong.
/damn cool image though!

Participantmopsy, I go up to Bessemer every January to ski with a big group of guys. This was my 8th or 9th year and the 28th year for the charter members of the group. I came across the north route this time through Marquette but I have taken the south way once before. I took some extra time on the was over to see some falls, etc. I’ve never been up there in the summer but really, really want to get to the Apostle Islands this year. The long drive makes it somewhat tough though.
The U.P. is very remote and reminds me of when I lived in the middle of the Adirondack Park. I really loved it there but being so remote has some drawbacks so unfortunately we moved south.
I’d like to visit the U.P. a lot more and had hopes of going to the Porcupine Mountains for this contest but I didn’t make it over there.
My sister, Mopsy’s daughter, went to Michigan Tech for chemistry up in Houghton/Hancock. I never realized how far north that was until I just looked at a google map. I visit Mopsy a few weeks every summer but their place is so damn wonderful that I never want to go anywhere else.
Mopsy – should we try to pack up the kids and find some good U.P. falls this summer?
googles……
GEEZ! Mopsy. Look at this… http://home.comcast.net/~ratburt/web/up.html

ParticipantDid anyone else notice they bumped the limit on filesize to 256K?
No… I hadn’t noticed…
This is relevant to my interests…
Will it be permanent, or, if I take advantage of it, will it go *poof* later and I’ll have a bunch of red x’s?
This would be very nice. Where did you learn of it? (i.e – prove it, sucka 🙂 )

ParticipantI would vote for a looser definition than just battles.
/ and I fully admit a personal bias because I just took a photo yesterday for this theme that, while it alludes to conflict, does not actually portray conflict. And it is one of the best shots I’ve taken in a while. 🙂 Cool concept, good execution.

ParticipantAhhh, yes. The age old trick of business negotiations while high. Always a questionable maneuver.
/ No verbs today.

Participantennuipoet – I agree with Loki.
I found several, but the archives were not exactly bursting with rocky photos. I might use two that are relative repeats (similar setting, different frame). Looking forward, I think I might just be satisfied with these three and spend some time on apples & oranges and strangers.
I’ve actually been thinking that I should plant myself in front of the Wal-Mart in an older section of town and catch people as they are walking in. “Excuse me. I’m taking photos of strangers for a project. Would you mind…?” Click, click. “Thanks.”
Or maybe the DMV. There were a bunch of interesting folks last time I was at the DMV.

ParticipantOk, I’m stoned. Now what?
Nekkid pictures?
“Creative” pictures of a pet’s backside?
Say “screw it” and surf the web? TV?

Participantmopsy–any chance of getting the site with the sheeting of ice storm? I think that could be all sorts of *win*!
Mopsy, if you are thinking of Piers Gorge after an ice storm – I’d suggest you go back and start combing the archives. 🙂 While there are paths, they were slightly treacherous in the summer sun.

ParticipantThanks for the Bees comments.
I made the wrong choices this week. My brain has been all discombobulated with work shiat. I had the squirrel down as one of my entries from the time I saw it on my camera’s LCD (Mopsy can attest to it ’cause I took it at her house) and I had a similar thought with the horses. Then I suddenly changed my mind the day of the contest with time pressures to get stuff done because I was meeting people after work. I know, I know, I KNOW not to do that. :/ The difficulty of the creepy baby head shot without any post-processing is either too subtle or just too crappy. 🙂
But I do like a lot of entries this week. And I like the “feel” of this theme. While it is my opinion that post-processing is a creative tool (that I personally like to use) I also like the…honesty (for lack of a better word)…of these pics. Good stuff y’all.
