Participantone more vote y’all… just one more vote…

ParticipantI’m in the process of going through my vacation photos (4000 of ’em) and the ones I shot at high ISO (indoors, generally in old Catholic churches) don’t have a great deal of difference in clarity from the 200 ISO ones. I haven’t looked at them in “full size” yet, but at full-screen in Windows Photo Gallery they turned out OK when they turned out.
Doesn’t mean I’m going to go around at 2000 or 3200 ISO, though… that’s just for appropriate situations.

ParticipantHaving just come through security screenings several times in the last couple weeks, I can only second what ennuipoet said. What gets me the most is the people (including EVERYONE I traveled with – wife and parents) who just go along with the program. We are so very fearful of our government. In my wife’s case, she’d rather avoid embarrassment than say ANYTHING. She made it through 2 security screenings on the way into Italy, and two on the way home with a can of sun screen. ONLY because of a stupid weather-related delay forcing us to spend a night in a hotel did she get her can confiscated. That’s also the first time for me to have a back-scatter scan. My innards are still tingling.
My xanax was the ONLY reason I didn’t lose my mind. I will be having a more thorough rant on this elsewhere later, but we have totally given up real liberty in favor of the appearance of security. America used to be a great nation. Now we’re a nation of cowards.

ParticipantYugoboy They’re talking about fitting the theme for the contest – as a general rule pretty much anything that can be done ‘in camera’ is kosher.
I guess I mis-understood the original question, then. Sorry.

Participantorionid says he’ll allow it “mostly cause I want to see it”
I tried some tonight. Not great, but sort of cool. I’ll probably use one.
Not that it’s any of my business, but I kinda thought that if something could be done in camera, it was allowable, especially if it’s an illusion or trick… I mean, the Forced Perspective contest is all about that, for one thing.
I’ve got a “trick” shot I’m working on… my first few experiments have been “meh” or “bleah” but I can see progress so I’m gonna keep working on it… it’s for a hoppered contest so I’m kinda being vague on purpose.
Just my thoughts… I’m new here, so you can feel free to ignore me

ParticipantI was thinking the same thing, but she mentioned that she quit after a full half hour. How humid was it?
In my case, I know that a quick temperature change will produce those results. I’ve got an ass-load of desiccants in my camera bag so that temperature acclimation happens relatively dryly, and if shooting conditions are humid, at least the camera won’t stay that way.
If it’s too humid, forget about it. But that’s like FOG levels of humidity, so she may not have taken long enough to let the temperature change, or she was going in and out of a car with a/c or something. If it was darned foggy, ain’t too much to do, but do your best.
Also… if I remember my last trip to a beach (outer banks of NC) the sea air has a certain “something” that likes to cling to shiny surfaces like car paint and the like. If the humidity was up, this may be the case, and your lens needs cleaning STAT.

ParticipantI like “free.”
I’m not necessarily convinced Mrs. Yugoboy would appreciate me being any more immersed in NFL season than I already am.At least I don’t have enough of a social life that Friday the 2nd will be busy. It’ll be the first day of school for students (don’t ask… long story about a shitty superintendent… now Chicago’s got him… ha ha!) but I’ll be good.
Why the hell not… count me in. PM me the info, as I have no presence on Facebook (I won’t even let family and friends tag me).

ParticipantWhen you say “invertebrates” that means bugs and slugs and snails and the like are in, yes? Or are we keeping it to larger critters? I’m good either way… got plenty of both, but I just want to know if I can scour my “bugs” folder or I can leave that for a future contest?

ParticipantThis only works with translucent textures, right?
If I wanted to use a brick wall texture, I’d still have to use the NEF-based in-camera image merge, right?

ParticipantI was looking at the birding one too. Something just doesn’t seem right about the photo.
That one got me too, As an avid Photoshopper, I figured it’s get deleted for violating that provision. Since he re-posted it, I copy/pasted into Photoshop and took a look. There are some artifacts outside the hummingbird that would probably NOT be there if it was phhotoshopped in… unless… if he PS’d that in one size saved as a .jpg, and then saved the .jpg as another size or two artifacts would begin to appear as image quality began to deteriorate. FWIW – the bird, if copy/pasted, has no inappropriate pixels on its edges.
There’s some sort of orange “something” right at the bottom of the image that cannot be his shirt unless he’s got the strangest beard in North America.
The lighting is what’s really the most suspicious. He’s got to be under some sort of shade or something, while the bird is really well-lit. It’s entirely possible he’s got some sort of remote or motion activated trigger, but that has got to be one of the single luckiest shots in all birding history.
Honestly, I don’t care whether or not he calls it a sport or not. “Sports” is such an amorphous term it could qualify under his own definition. What gets me is the image just feels either exquisitely posed and executed or done indoors, or really skillfully photoshopped. IMHO… it feels like it falls outside the rules – but I have no hard and fast evidence for this.
If, somehow, at this point, he shot up the rankings and began to do well, maybe we challenge him further. If he languishes with 1-3 votes… meh.
The preceding is just one photoshopper’s opinion and only worth its weight in pixels…

ParticipantOK… I now feel a lot better about my bokeh entries…
I am, however, considering a review of my archives due to the larger subject matter illustrated in Elsinore‘s examples…
I know I’ve got a LOT of non-macro examples hidden in there… if I get the time, kestrana may get a second PM…

ParticipantHow in hell did the Bills get so damn over-represented in this week’s contest?
orionid and kestrana‘s Steelers photos are against the Bills
my training camp pic
Eeek and Warthog have Bills playing their teams…Seriously… the only NFL pics without Bills are two Steelers photos (for all I know the unseen opponents are still the Bills) and kestrana‘s Seahawks’ scoreboard!
The only reason mine is of the Bills is because of proximity. I don’t even like them. I’ve been a lifelong Cowboys fan (even during the 1-15 seasons)… mostly due to my brother’s choice of Steelers to cheer for.

ParticipantI’m thinking I’ll pick the best lightning shots for “Power”, if the theme goes green.
I, for one, am hoping that one goes green, because that’s where at least some of my motorcycle shots are going to end up if the motorcycle contest stays under-voted.

ParticipantYeah i can obo, just PM me links beforehand
Thanx kindly… they’re winging their way to you momentarily

ParticipantBefore I impose myself on someone, I figure I’ll ask.
Would someone mind terribly OBO-ing my Bokeh entries?
Respond here or PM me. TIA!I should be home in time for Barren Macro.
