Participantreally punched up the photo.
Thanks, and I did get the name wrong, the effect is called focal soften. It’s kinda like the tilt-shift filter, but the bokeh increases in a circle instead.
orionid I will guess something to do with stairs? Escher rocks…now you’ve got me wondering if I can do an Escher homage for Pattern.

ParticipantFor anyone still “stuck for ideas/lacking software”, you could also try the free picnik editor that comes with Flickr (and Picasa?). They are continually improving it, and it’s real easy to use. I’ve got GIMP, but have barely scratched the surface of what it can do, so most of my prospective entries are picniked. A couple examples of the results:

and after “HDR-ish” effect http://www.flickr.com/photos/42385982@N06/5426360753/This one used several effects, including “focal point blurring” – could be wrong on the name.

Participant..Are you Italian? Do you have connections? Maybe it’s a sign you shouldn’t look…I don’t want to swim with da fishes…

I aint sayin nuttin.
Except that it was worth the wait for that 😆
Thanks for the link CauseISaidSo. After an Adobe and windows update and two reboots, it still freezes my browser. If I did know someone from the “Legitimate Businessmen’s Social Club”, somebody might get whacked 👿Zero_Exponent
ParticipantOne of the reasons I wanted to put the 3 pics together is that I thought it’d be easier for someone to figure out the location…for example, I am planning on using pictures of the shore. While there are lots of beaches around the world and nothing that specifically makes one stand out from another, I thought this picture might help people understand where I mean (not to mention I just love this picture)
Am I the only one who is having trouble seeing this? It has crashed my browser twice when I click that link.

ParticipantSharing one & two with your spouse just wasn’t good enough, you had to have it all to yourself, eh orionid? 😉 Congrats on an awesome showing!
And now, on to some stats…
All hail King Whore!
Pleasantly surprised to see my name on that list 😀
Two weeks ago I was worrying that I had nothing for this theme.
I have that same feeling now about software hootenanny, only this time I doubt q+d will fare well.Zero_Exponent
ParticipantWow, good going orionid! 75 votes and counting … has anyone ever cracked 100?

ParticipantIs that how these were done?

I’ve always assumed it was funhouse mirrors.

ParticipantZero, I planned an almost identical shot to your fark bacon. 🙂 Glad I ran outta time now and didn’t execute it.
Heh, me too! That was a last minute idea shot two hours before the contest. Had to think of something quick because my boob model got cold feet 😥
It’s funny how she was all excited when I told her about it on tuesday, but when I saw her wednesday morning she “wasn’t comfortable” with it.
I’m guessing she told her boyfriend, and he talked her out of it. Boo, hiss. From your b-sides, #’s 2 and 4 have big cute quotient. Especially like the expression of the girl on the left.
Uranus, your pic didn’t fool me for a second.
I knew it was a tortoise right away 😉Zero_Exponent
ParticipantCauseISaidSo, glad you liked em, and also glad I made you laugh. Your quarter-size hail shot reminded me of the story my stepdad told me about a nasty hailstorm on his street. After the storm, he saw one of his neighbours climb up on the roof with a ballpeen hammer to make sure there was enough damage that his roof would be replaced by the insurance company!
Also, Bandit is a great looking dog. Maybe we’ll see that shot in vote whoring?ravnostic thanks for the shout-out! Honestly, kudos from a fellow photographer I respect are worth a lot more to me than anonymous votes on the internet any day. Not sayin I don’t care about the votes, or that the vote totals are meaningless, but some very wise person once told me that what is popular is not neccesarily good, and what is good is not always popular. One only has to look at the music charts to see the truth of this … Bieber fever? Seriously? 🙄
Thanks to LeicaLens for the kind words as well! I was guessing a parachute for your wind b-side, but an awning makes a lot more sense. Let me turn the tables and say that your glider on a mountain shot should be getting way more votes IMO. Love it.

ParticipantZero – Thanks. I was debating what to enter for my snow entry. I wish I could have captured her expression from the other side. She was dismayed and insisted that Daddy rebuild it.
The body language says a lot, but yeah, I can imagine she must have had a memorable facial expression.
LeicaLens, re – Wind: http://flic.kr/p/9draXp – that’s an interesting …
… what the heck IS that thing?ravnostic, that cloud X would be perfect for alphabetography!
Oh yeah, I had bees too:
wind (I figured too subtle for Fark, feel free to correct me) http://www.flickr.com/photos/42385982@N06/5390631167/clouds (too much competition in this area) http://www.flickr.com/photos/42385982@N06/5378990412/in/photostream/
And no shortage of snow shots; a ton on my flickr, including several here http://www.flickr.com/photos/42385982@N06/sets/72157625716098359/

Participantzincprincess, I really like your Aftermath of Snowmaggedon 2010.
As Rod the Bod said, every picture tells a story, and that one’s a classic if you ask me!Zero_Exponent
ParticipantAs a relative newbie with no top ten finishes, I haven’t had trouble with this yet.
As a farktography fan/viewer/voter however, I gotta say I am not a huge fan of the re-use of photos. Purely for selfish reasons, I admit – I’ve already seen it, so show me something new, kind of thing.
Having said that, I think a statute of limitations for previous entries would be a possible solution. Something like “no re-using any previous entries until three years have passed. Three is the number thou shalt count …” 🙂

ParticipantNice, rav. Abandoned truck, hwy 188, and miniature building in particular.
Do you notice any differences in your approach (composition, camera settings, etc) when you’re shooting with B+W in mind?

ParticipantYikes, everywhere I look I see spectacular shots!
I just hope mine don’t stick out like a sore thumb.Zero_Exponent
ParticipantProject 365 x1000.
This guy took a polaroid a day from 1979 until he passed away (presumably from cancer) in 1997.

Wow.
Wow indeed.
That takes dedication.
Haven’t browsed them all, but already found this …
