ParticipantWait, B+W is allowed? Great, now I can use that schoolbus pic!
😆 LOL!! You realize why that’s funny right?
Heh, I keed because I love the U-man. FWIW I would’ve voted for the bus pic. Cemetery is my 2 cents BTW.
kestrana, I would tend to agree with sleeping – shadows are more “the absence of light” than “blackness”. Just an opine, YMMV. As far as the contest goes, it’s all good. I say post ’em and let the voters sort it out.
soosh that window frost is incredible!
ravnostic you better get that promotion so you can afford to pay Drew! 😛

Seriously, to me using B+W or even silhouetting is a bit of a “cheat” for this one. I don’t percieve it to be “in the spirit” of the color themes.
Having said that, at least one of my entries will push the envelope on the definition of “black”.plamadude and ravnostic, I could post OBO for you, but I’m a liter now, so it would have to wait until we go live. If you want to reach me about it, please use my gmail addy “one.big.voice” 8)
/I’m hoping for a Tap reference somewhere in the contest – maybe the winner can be named “none more black”?

ParticipantGlad you made it back before voting-enabled time, Kestrana. My resize is gone.
Also glad to see Soosh is OK. After his conspicuous absence from Old Man Winter, I was a bit worried.
Here’s my b-sides for this week – http://www.flickr.com/photos/42385982@N06/sets/72157626007121333/

ParticipantYeah the control piece concerns me most.
Here’s my resized to 99.5kb

Does the quality look OK?

ParticipantThanks Mr. Rav, I’ve got my fingers crossed – but not my sexy legs. Varicose veins, doncha know 😛
I noticed Kestrana allows downloading of her original size – I could download it, resize, and then post the small version on my Flickr. Then I could post the small version in the contest with a link to the real photo on her Flickr.
But should I? Is that wrong? Should I not do that?
I’ll go feed the cats and then check back here …Zero_Exponent
ParticipantYep, Fark does not recognize Flickr’s “rotate” – so FYI Flickrers, don’t use it!
Oh, the delicious irony. In a contest that features order, we have complete chaos!
Zero_Exponent
Participantravnostic, if you can do O’s, I’ll post Kes’ – nevermind I see ZP’s got it.
Zero_Exponent
ParticipantOk, fark is rotating my photo. Anyone experienced this before? I think the problem is caused from using Flickr to rotate from the original. I haven’t screamed at my computer like this for awhile 👿

ParticipantThis is a bit random, but this just popped into my head for some reason.
The title of the bokeh classic should be “Bokeh II – Electric Bokehloo”.
That is all.Zero_Exponent
ParticipantAs soon as I saw U-man‘s entries, I thought “Looks like he’s got his mojo back!”
Congrats!Zero_Exponent
ParticipantGlad to hear the surgery went well Mopsy.
I’ve got some late bees – considering how bad the snowplow is doing, I’m thinking I shoulda swapped it for one of these: http://www.flickr.com/photos/42385982@N06/sets/72157626007121333/with/5473986117/February 18, 2011 at 9:57 pm in reply to: 02-16-11 – Farktography Classic: Software Hootennany 2 #37488Zero_Exponent
ParticipantKestrana I think I owe my current top photo to you, you pointed out the tilt shift site. My original 3rd entry was something else completely.
Happy you found something that worked for you. I got it from the last Tilt-shift contest.
Ditto what Pope_Larry_II said, Kestrana. That Niagra falls pic is excellent, BTW. Some superb HDR (must start shooting in RAW), all the weird filters I hadn’t seen (Droste?!), and Mopsy‘s (that spider!!!) and Uranus‘ neon treatments … lots of quality work overall.

ParticipantZero Exponent: Fake tilt/shift, soft focus and other filters should be legal for this theme.
No, I get that – what I mean is, will I be able to enter a fake-tilt-shifted photo (for example) in a future contest, or is that unacceptable? The rules say as a guideline, blanket image corrections are fine – but spot treatments are not.
I interpret that to mean the tilt-shift, or any other filter that you select an area to be treated, is out. However, by that standard, you could argue that the HDR-ish filter should be OK because it affects the whole image, and does not use stacked exposures (only mimics it). I’m not arguing that, because it would be near impossible to tell the difference in some cases.February 16, 2011 at 7:32 pm in reply to: 02-16-11 – Farktography Classic: Software Hootennany 2 #37439Zero_Exponent
ParticipantQ here also. I’m assuming the use of the HDR-ish filter from picnik would be illegal for regular contests due to the similarity to true HDR, but am not sure about the fake tilt-shifter, focus soften, or other effects. Just wanna know if I’m DQ’ing some of my possible entries for upcoming contests. I can PM examples if needed.
