    (sorry, couldn’t help it)

    LOL, but it’s been done:

Reasons I think the book will stand out from the other photo books:

      – a wide variety of photographers and styles. For single artist books, people tend to either love or hate a majority of the content.
      – the mix of fun and serious photos, taken with the full range of equipment and skill levels, from hobby shooters to pros. Variety again, but a different kind.
      – the fact that anyone with a camera and an image host can get published. That’s hugely inspirational to me personally, and it gives the book a feel-good angle that books by established photographers do not have.

Rav – I like the first one better because of the iridescent green on the fly. Plus you get more detail of the fly.

    /Same disclaimer as previous post.

    What she said.

ZP The money shot is my top pick. After that, I like #4. Echo what ravnostic said re #2; I like it and #1, but my concern there is the turtle – it doesn’t look very green compared to the grass.

Opinion seems to be leaning towards cutting the green rider. But he’s Gumby, dammit!

Sorry to hear that, U-man. Best wishes to Mr. Mopsy for a full and speedy recovery.
A health scare like that makes my problem insignificant in comparison, but if anyone can help me out, it would be greatly appreciated. Please see my gallery post “HEPL!” for details.

Is it to early to declare orionid the winner? I think it’s a safe bet, so congrats on the great photo regardless.

U-man, thank you for the ‘splanation of the psychedelic pic (and also awesome BTW ). Were the plastic forks clear, or were they semi-opaque (ie white like the ones in mopsy‘s deliciously dreamy entry )?

ravnostic, no need to get all George Costanza ( if my every instinct is wrong, then the opposite would have to be right ). The votes are impossible to predict sometimes. I thought your frayed tire shot would be killing, but it’s only doing meh. Lots of time left to pick up some late votes though, don’t lose hope!

clouddancer , if you can’t buy it right now, I would definitely be interested. The features and lenses are miles ahead of what I got now, and this seems like a really good deal. You spoke up first, so it’s your call.

orionid, very clever. Who knows, maybe you would’ve become a pro athlete?

    I am so sorry.

QueenBee, the last thing you have to worry about is being original. Your entries are always creative, and usually make me kick myself – “OMG why didn’t I think of that!?”. Of course, even if I did think of it, I wouldn’t be able to execute the idea as well as you could!

NoBigDeal, she looks like she’s splitting those boards to me. I say go for it.

Thanks very much for the help, guys. I think I’ve got it figured out. Well 2 out of 3 anyway. The last may come down to a coin flip. *idea* If I had a cool shot of a coin flip, I could say I’m forking/splitting the universe (that whole “trousers of time” alternate timeline thing) !

    /But I don’t 🙁

Has anyone else had trouble with Flicker’s picnik editor?

I tried it a couple of times, and I hate it. It’s slow, and you have to be online to use it. Irfanview is free and pretty easy to use. Go to Irfanview.com if you want to download it.

ravnostic, I was thinking more of stuff that has the word “fork” in it, like these:

    http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/4046/theforkswritteninstone.jpg
    http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/507/forkslamppostandpath.jpg
    http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/3102/forksmarketneonsign.jpg
    http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/9758/forksmarketshadow.jpg

These were taken at “The Forks” as well, but I don’t know if they represent forking:

    http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/8885/alienwindeateromnomnom.jpg

I dunno, probably overthinking this, but I’m having a hellish day and cannot brain. Took me about 5 min to figure out LLAP, and Spock was always my favorite 😕

Thanks. And it’s nice in that it doesn’t prompt a boatload of questions about what the theme is about, for a change.

Well now you jinxed it. I do seriously have a Q: there’s an area in Winnipeg called “The Forks” …
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Forks,_Winnipeg
… would anything taken there be considered Forktography?

Oh, and I’ll just leave these here …

Man. Deciding was tough. Here are some Bees

I too, like the rust. The textures and colors are beautiful. But I love the gas station light. The rays of light make it seem like the parallel lines on either side are curving away from the center.

Oh, and it’s the back of a road sign at night, silhouetting some scrubby desert plant tines. Noticed it walking home from the bar last night, grabbed the camera and went back to take the shot. Yellow sodium vapor lighting.

I like the colors of the sky, and the sils. of the branches, but I think I’d like it better if that pole wasn’t in there ( all together now, THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID ).

I had a real hard time choosing for this contest. Offbeat, odd, weird, strange …. these can all be compliments, in my book. I was looking forward to this one for awhile so that I could see what everyone else’s idea of “unusual” was – and you did not disappoint.

Here’s some that didn’t make the cut.
My second pic, “Shiney”, was shot looking straight up above some escalators at a convention center. There’s a metal ceiling and a bunch of brass tubes hanging down. I almost ended up using two more of the same subject. Here’s what it looks like with less flash :
    http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/6843/resizeofccceilingabovee.jpg
And with no flash, taken earlier:
    http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/6843/resizeofccceilingabovee.jpg
Yes that’s me in the green shirt and red shorts.
Most people who saw this guy would either run away or kill it ASAP:
    http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/8051/resizeofmalemosquito.jpg
I ran away to get my camera.
    And THEN I killed it.
For the “blue balls” entry, the backgrond is my mom’s patio table, which is made of little cells of glass:
    http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/7528/resizeofpatiotabletop.jpg
When I saw how you could kind of make out what was under the table in some of the cells, I went to her laundry room and grabbed two buckets, one red and one blue, as well as a big bottle of yellow detergent. I put it all under the table, and got this:
    http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/9821/resizeofpatiotablecells.jpg
Her plastic patio chairs were worth a closer look too:
    http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/23/resizeofpatiochair.jpg
I was at this restaurant where they have a “star tree”. You pay two bucks and get to write a message on a star and hang it in the tree. I kept the Toonie, but had to capture that tree for posterity:
    http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/5497/resizeofstartree.jpg
And finally, what I think is the best photo of a woman wrapping a banana in tinfoil that I have ever seen:
    http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/4482/resizeofwrappingthebana.jpg

Whew, I hope all those links work!

A plea again to everyone that owes me your caption choices for the book (which is a lot of you), I’m bored and need something to work on that isn’t laundry.
Also my mommy played this week, +10 internets if you can figure out who she is.

Someone whose name I don’t recognize, but probably has some photography chops … I’m gonna guess Liese?

There really needs to be a ‘click to vote for all’ option, especially this week. But then, nobody would win. It’s going to be a really tough call on who to leave out. There can be only x^0.

    😯
